Cut plavix in half

Common Questions and Answers about Cut plavix in half

plavix

Avatar f tn Yes its ok to cut it in half. It should have a little place on the pill where to cut it. If you want to be absolutely sure you can always ask your pharmacist.
Avatar f tn I have taken plavix twice in a 7 year period for 2 years total time. If you bump yourself you can bruise heavily, large areas. I banged my knee at work, it turned into a 7" oval bruise from my knee to my hip. A cut could cause you to bleed longer before you clot.
214864 tn?1229715239 A similar pattern was seen in the angioplasty/stent cohort. Heart attacks are caused by sudden blood clots in the coronary artery which cut off the blood supply to the heart. While the authors stress this is an observational study, the results suggest that immediately following the stopping of clopidogrel, there may be a short period of increased platelet activation which would in turn promote blood clot formation.
Avatar m tn ve had both types placed in my arteries in the past three years, in fact eight of them. Some were coated, some were bare metal, but I've just been taken off Plavix as it's been a year since the coated stent was placed. I've taken 81 mg of aspirin since 1998 when I had my first heart attack. I'm guessing that you have significant bruising from both the aspirin and plavix therapy.
1679243 tn?1307674938 This is more of a question about Warfarin, Plavix, blood thinning treatment ect... I was swimming yesterday with my kids and was rubbing my eyes a good bit. Afterwards my wife noticed my left eye was bleeding, not pouring blood but there is blood in the white part of my eye. Doesn't hurt or bother me it's just a nice size blood spot. I've been on Warfarin and Plavix and a daily baby aspirin for over 6 months to treat my heart disease.
Avatar n tn There is much contraversy over this and also as plavix is taken in conjunction with aspirin. Many doctors are now saying long term use of aspirin can cause bleeding in the brain, while others say that the clotting ability of blood is still sufficient to prevent this. More research is currently being undertaken to gather data to see which side of the argument has the strongest stance.
Avatar n tn Get fresh ginger, take a half-dozen fresh cut slices and steep it in a cup of hot tea for ten minutes. Remove the slices and drink. Do this four times a day. Ginger tea is a 3000 year old remedy for dizziness and seasickness.
Avatar m tn I had to ahve three stins, and My Dr. told em i would have to saty on plavix, and asprin, please dont stop yuor plavix or asprin unless your cardologist says its ok. you can get amnoyher blod clot, and tus a heart attack.
Avatar m tn It sounds like he/she is putting a lot of faith in the plavix keeping your stents clear. But after a year you will obviously have a lot of new tissue covering the stents and the plavix will not have any benefit. I bet you bleed for a long time if you cut yourself. Aspirin is a nightmare for the digestive system, it is known as a cause for ulcerations. Do you take the gastric resistant variety?
Avatar n tn The plavix was prescribed because I had a drug eluding stent ( 3 of them) placed in my LAD which was 90 % occluded. Can I reduce my plavix to half one or two days and drop the aspirin to see if the spots go away and no more start? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I've had some suggestions to cut the pills in half, but I have capsules, not tablets and they cannot be cut in half. What should I do??
Avatar n tn I was on plavix for more than a year and instructed not to drink alcohol for the reason I have given in the other post, if your doctor states it is okay to drink alcohol with plavix, it may be that a very small amount would not be harmful as the time required for the activity of a substance taken into the body to lose one half its initial effectiveness. I believe it is about 24 hours for alcohol to almost completely leavce the system...
Avatar f tn I don't have cancer in bladder or kidneys it's plavix and aspirin that's caused blood in urine
482754 tn?1341791494 Has anyone been prescribed the new plavix alternative called Effient? If so can you tell me about any side effects? I had an Everluminous drug eluding stent placed in the right coronary artery in May of this year and was placed on plavix and aspirin therapy. I've had no problems since the placement except for a severe allergic skin reaction which the dermatologist thinks is from the plavix.
Avatar f tn The whole idea of plavix is to make platelets less active and a patient is now generally on this medication for a number of years. My first stent in 2007 required plavix for 1 year. My new stents in Sept 09 require plavix for 2-3 years minimum. They seem to now believe the longer you are on plavix the better, to prevent clogging of stents. They should be taking blood tests to make sure her clotting factor is as required. I assume she is on aspirin daily also?
1210142 tn?1266077031 The cardiologist suggested to cut Carvbedilol in half/so now I am taking 3.125 twice a day instead of 6.25 and my chest pain almost disapear. I don't know if Losartan can cause this or just switching drugs my body needs more time...? The above mentioned side effects are very bothersome and I don't know if they are from Losartan or...just need time? From your expirience: looking for BP medications with good proven record and less side effects?
976897 tn?1379167602 I had one stent put in 6 yrs ago and my Cardio has me on 81mg aspirin and the plavix for life. I can only go off both for 10 days if I know I'm having any surgery, then I have to go back on both again. If I was in your situation, I would listen to your regular Doc and stay on both for life.
1210142 tn?1266077031 I think plavix is very important for CAD sufferers. The half life of plavix is short anyway, so if it came to some emergency, it wouldn't take long for the effect to wear off.
Avatar m tn I also have eight stents, they are in all three major heart arteries, seven of them were inserted within eighteen months about six years ago. Half of my stents are drug-elluting, half are bare-metal. I was also told initially I would be on Plavix the rest of my life. However, I really worked hard to change my risk factors... of course I didn't smoke, I quit eating red meat, lost a great deal of weight, took the good drugs recommended by my doctor, and exercised daily.
1059594 tn?1261323966 Isn't Opana Time Released? I know you're the doctor, but I don't think you should inform people to cut their medications in half, ESPECIALLY if they're time released as this could cause a rapid release of all the medication in turn making her more sick, or am I wrong? This discussion is related to New Medication - Side Effects.
Avatar m tn However, I looked up the study and indeed, Prylosec can have an effect with Plavix in some people. I have to say, Jim, that a full 325 mg aspirin plus 150 mg of Plavix is a gorilla dose. As a caveat... When taking my 75mg of Plavix and 81mg aspirin 1 1/2 years ago, I developed a bowel obstruction which led to emergency surgery. There were no options, the surgery had to take place, and quickly as I showed signs of kidney failure, a BNP test showed my heart was affected, etc.
Avatar f tn I had an MI in '05, and had a RCA stent placed. I was on plavix apox. 4 yrs because of family hx and my paranoia of another MI. I recently have been experiencing tingling and numbness in my hands upon awaking and have noticed small spider veins appearing on my thighs. I am a nurse on a MedSurg unit. I am concerned that my stent is becoming occulded. My doctor took me off plavix Jan'10 and kept me on 325 Aspirin.
Avatar f tn Yes, my pill can be split in half. I don't have a pill spliter, so I am wondering if I can use a knife to cut it. I already cut it actually and it split right in half. My pill has a "divit" like a divider already so it cut very easily.
161427 tn?1229911282 Every time Plavix is removed from my mother-in-law in order to perform a surgical-type procedure, her cognition improves dramatically (at least from my point of view from halfway across the country, "popping in" from time to time by telephone. History and Detail: My mother-in-law is 84 years old and living near her daughter in a nursing home in Boulder, Colorado, a very dry climate with thin air. About 20 years ago she had a moderately severe stroke that left her with a slight limp.
Avatar f tn Why were you put on Plavix in the beginning... for heart attack or stroke? Absolutely going off of it can lead to a mini-stroke/TIA, but going odd wont CAUSE one. Unfortunately you have to go off before a biopsy as it makes your blood thinner and there is too much risk of bleeding. Don't worry too much about the TIA, most have no long standing effects unless you have a LOT of them. So you want to go back on the Plavix and DON'T miss any doses! It should work right away.
Avatar m tn I was having usual symptoms of hypothyroidism - fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, hair loss, etc. Have been on Levothyroxine for several months now and have seen improvements in all symptoms except hair loss. I'm also on Plavix (due to a TIA), which I understand can also cause hair loss. I started on it shortly before beginning to exhibit thyroid symptons. I've had breast cancer, so can't take estrogen.
Avatar n tn s side-effects, we discovered that Plavix causes ulcers. He was bleeding from a huge ulcer in his stomach. They immediately DC'd his Coumadin and Plavix. Are there any alternatives to these two medicines that you are aware of? His cardiologist says he needs to stay on both of them for the rest of his life. Thank you.
Avatar m tn I have two (back to back) everolimus eluting stents in my right coronary artery. given the total length (35 mm) I am concerned about poor endothelialization. What can be done to promote healthy endothelialization? WIll a specific diet help?
