Coughing phlegm clear

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing phlegm clear

Avatar n tn The cold eventually went away, but since then I have been consistently coughing up clear phlegm 10-20 times a day. Usually, it's just small amounts, and I cough it up to try and clear my lungs and throat. I went to my doctor about a month ago and he performed a lung function breathing test and checked my blood oxygen levels and said that everything was normal. So he prescribed Nasonex which I have been taking for about a week, but it doesn’t seem to have made much difference.
Avatar n tn It seems to come in waves of coughing spells and then no coughs. I have been coughing up phlegm that is mostly white/clear with small amounts of a yellowish color and small brown flecks. When I lay down I can hear myself breathing/wheezing and makes it impossible to sleep, not to mention coughing fits making my partner unable to sleep. I have been taking antihistamines before bed and it seems to help calm my cough.
Avatar n tn Drinking more water, as well as drinking carbonated beverages or tea with lemon may help thin this phlegm. Eating or drinking dairy products can make phlegm worse. Also, if coughing and phlegm production is severe, you could also give her some over-the-counter cough medications. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I have been coughing up thick clear phlegm speckled with gray. Not constantly, but a few times a day. I was diagnosed as a child with post nasal drip and I live in an area notorious for causing allergies. I do experience sinus congestion fairly regularly. For the last several months, my right lung seems sore or tight when I take deep breaths, but it improves almost entirely when I exercise.
Avatar n tn Well, you don't have COPD. If you did you would be coughing up phlegm and your breathing would be compromised. It sounds like inflammation. Try taking schisandra chinesnis. It is an herb that is both anti-inflammatory and drying. There are no side effects. My daughter had a relatively similar problem and this herb helped enormously.
Avatar m tn Been coughing up a lot of phlegm for about a year now, everyday its a huge amount, sometimes so much it wakes me up. but my lung x-rays are clear... any ideas?
Avatar m tn Hi not sure if anyone will know this but worth a try, i have smoked for 41 years mostly roll ups with no filters or anything, but about 3 plus years ago i started putting filters in and after a few months started coughing up green phlegm i asked the doctor he just said getting older and smoking, Some days it seems worse than others its really strange, i don't smoke load about 15 a day but there dead thin and i only smoke half at a time.
Avatar f tn Lived with a father who smoked, and he himself seemed to have the same problem. coughing up phlegm, tons of mucus. My mother had to wash so many handkerchiefs. We lived on a farm back then, and now I live on a farm as well, and have a husband who also smokes. It seems after I finish eating I often have lots of clear mucus that needs to get out. I can feel like it all situated in my nasal cavity, plus it needs to leave my throat as well. It doesn't matter what I eat or drink.
Avatar n tn My mother has been coughing constantly for the past 3 to 4 months and brings up a lot of clear phlegm, she has disturbed sleep because of this and the constant coughing is wearing her out and makes her really tired. I feel so helpless to see hear suffering this way.
Avatar n tn I had cold/flu in Dec 2007, since then i've been clonstantly clearing my throat of phlegm, it is clear phlegm. I'm not sure i'm meant to cough it up or not, but i'm scared to swallow it made me gag and a few months after my cold which scared me. This morning, I cleared my throat as usual, but 3 times there were traces of blood in it. It's still clear but just with little bits of blood in it, one was a streak of blood. There was alot more clear phlegm.spit than there was blood.
Avatar f tn I sometimes cough up clear phlegm. I have no trouble breathing, and my chest dosent really hurt. I am scared that I am coughing so much because I might have cancer, or that the coughing will hurt my lungs and cause something else!
Avatar n tn I have a5 month old baby boy, for the past 3 days he has had a bad cough and keeps coughing up phlegm trouble is he keeps swallowing it. He has had me up every night and it sounds like a barking cough and he gets so upset. Tried nose drops, menthol rub on his chest, calpol,. The doctor said his chest was clear and it was all up top but really worried still as he is so upset by all this.
Avatar f tn Some coughing is actually GOOD following a hysterctomy or any type of surgery. coughing helps to clear the lungs of mucous and leftover anesthesia effects. However, if the cough is severe and very forceful, there's a slight risk of pulling or loosening stitches that have been used during the surgery, which may or may not be a problem. Also, if you are coughing up colored phlegm (yellow, brown, green, etc) then you most definitely need to be seen by your doctor - it could mean an infection.
Avatar f tn Since we are talking about coughing. I had a few questions of my own. I have had issues coughing for the past 4-5 years. I caught constantly. Sometimes it makes my headache worse but sometimes I don't have a headache so it doesn't bother me. I do have sinus disease as per my MRI. So that explains the post nasal drip. I always have problems coughing whenever I am near or around water. For example I cough so much in the shower that sometimes it will make me throw up or gag.
Avatar m tn I would then in the next hour or so start coughing up phlegm which are clear. Have been going around with tissues all this time. Only recently wonder if there is anything i can do about it .
Avatar n tn i tend to cough up a big semi clear blob of phlegm after eating a meal, usually within half an hour. sometimes i feel like it's in my windpipe and it affects the sound of my breathing, and occasionally, if i haven't yet coughed it up, when i breathe in i have a small relfex in my chest as if i were choking, and then cough it up. usually greasy meals e.g. a plate of chips will bring up much more than say, a sandwich, but it always happens, and it's getting very annoying.
Avatar n tn After some foods that I think are over salted I would cough for 30 seconds and cough out phlegm and then my throat feels clear. It only happens with exceptionally salty maybe fatty food but i am not sure exactly what. What is happening to me?
Avatar f tn but only after I was CONVINCED I was going to die. I am traumatized and do not know how to not choke on phlegm now. How do I clear it and not choke?
Avatar n tn However, my nasal passageways still feel clear right now. Also whenever I try to clear my throat (by hoarking, coughing, swallowing, even massaging my throat externally) I have no success what-so-ever. I drink a lot of coffee (suger, cream or milk, 3 or 4 a day) and I'm wondering if thats causing irritation in the throat bringing on the mucus.
Avatar n tn For some six weeks now I have experienced excess phlegm which slides down the back of my throatinto my lungs . As a result of this, I am continously coughing in order to clear my chest The Muscus is from my sinus and even though I have used "salt water" sprays,,,"Superfed tablets ..and Betnasol Drops as recommended by an ENT specialist and sprays I do not seem to get any relief at all.
Avatar n tn But for the last two weeks, I have been coughing up heavy amounts of phlegm, from clear to yellow, to light green and back to yellow. The cough is hard and uncontrollable and I thought it was a bronchial infection. When I laugh, I hear (and feel) a wheezing that instantly produces coughing and phlegm. My doctor can't see me until next week and people have told me it could be anything from pneumonia to tuberculosis.
Avatar n tn However, everyday he continues to feel excessive phlegm build up in his chest and has to clear his throat constantly throughout the day. The phlegm is thick but not unusually discolored. The phlegm is not affected by eating habits nor exercise. Otherwise, he is and has been in very good health (and thus does not believe it is necessary to see his doctor). However, I would like to know why he is producing so much phlegm and if there should be cause for concern. Thank you!
Avatar n tn All pet scans are clear and x-rays clear still I have a cough that sometimes is that of a heavy smoker. coughing brings up clear mucus. Other than this cough I feel great. Any suggestions on how to take care of the cough?
213398 tn?1202674074 it feels there is stuff stuck in there but it does not come up with coughing. once in a while i bring up clear stuff and very little bit of it. i did 3 xrays and it came back clear. the doctor listened to my lungs and breathing and said its clear. when i get this is almost feels like my breathing is slightly worse but when i tell the doc he says i sound clear. it feels like its coming from the throat and is affecting my voice slightly too.
Avatar n tn I had a fever for only one day when i got Bronchits first by the way.My coughing has now almost dissapeared and it has become quite dry.I am still bringing up some phlegm also.Yesterday morning and again this morning i have noticed a small amount of blood in my spit after clearing my throat. It was just one or two spits yesterday morning and again this morning first thing.Once i have spit once or twice i will see no more blood in any phlegm i cough up for the day.
Avatar n tn About 1 week after having the daily dry cough, I went to my doctor and he said that it was allergic bronchitis and I should take Claritin. Within about 1 week after that, I began coughing up phlegm;which has continued ever since. The coughing/phlegm is not constant. But every day, usually about the same time of day, I cough/cough up phlegm (sometimes) and experience the need to constantly clear my throat. This last for about a couple hours and then I am fine for the rest of the day.
