When I lay down I can hear myself breathing/wheezing and makes it impossible to sleep, not to mention coughing fits making my partner unable to sleep. I had cold/flu in Dec 2007, since then i've been clonstantly clearing my throat of phlegm, it is clear phlegm. I'm not sure i'm meant to cough it up or not, but i'm scared to swallow it made me gag and a few months after my cold which scared me.
This morning, I cleared my throat as usual, but 3 times there were traces of blood in it. It's still clear but just with little bits of blood in it, one was a streak of blood. There was alot more clear phlegm.

I experience several bouts of heavy coughing that can last anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes while coughing up mostly clear phlegm with some of it a sea green color and at other times tinged pink - though this is rare. Hello. I've recently had a cold and lately I've noticed that every morning when I spit out some phlegm there are streaks of blood in it. When I started coughing, it wasn't there then but after a few days of coughing really heavily it started. It only happens in the mornings though after waking up. No blood comes up the rest of the day no matter how much I cough. It's been going on four about... I don't know, 2 to 4 days now.
Is it normal, or usual for a heavy marijuana smoker (numerous times daily for 6+ years), to be coughing up clear phlegm with dark gray/brown globular matter encased in it, mainly in the mornings and randomly in small amounts throughout the day? In the mornings there are much more dark pieces in clear phlegm, and when it randomly happens throughout the day, it is just small specks or chunks encased in clear phlegm.
I was put on nebulized Mucomyst (in addition to nebulized Duoneb) and for the first time in years my lungs were clear of phlegm - totally clear. No more choking myself to exhaustion. However for some reason this is no longer on the market (this may be temporary). However what you can do is take an over-the-counter mucolitic. The only worthwhile one is Guaifenesin. You don't want to get Mucinex which has other ingredients, but plain guaifenesin. Also, take 500 mg of vitamin B5.
I had a high fever, and muscle soreness. Then I started getting congested, so I went to the doctor. They checked for the flu, and took a chest x-ray. They said both looked fine. They put me on antibiotics because my phlegm was discolored. My fever left, and muscle ache's. Now I've been coughing up phlegm. m going to choke except for chicken noodle soup. When I cough, I spit up clear phlegm and sometimes the coughing hurts my chest really bad. Sometimes when I cough the phlegm I sometimes choke on it a little bit and can't breathe for 1-5 seconds and I also sometimes have trouble swallowing. I made few scenes when I was gasping for air, especially this one night I couldn't breathe for 5 minutes and trying to get air, I had to wake my parents up to help me.
Since about the second or third week post quitting I started coughing up this weird white/gray phlegm that has a terrible, bitter acrid taste that coats my mouth and back of my throat almost like an oil. Similar to bronchitis sputum but not green or yellow. There's no tar in it, no black bits, and it's always a small amount but it's once a day, every day. Usually after I eat. i have smoked for 41 years mostly roll ups with no filters or anything, but about 3 plus years ago i started putting filters in and after a few months started coughing up green phlegm i asked the doctor he just said getting older and smoking,
Some days it seems worse than others its really strange, i don't smoke load about 15 a day but there dead thin and i only smoke half at a time.
The weird part about it is the phlegm is like strands of crystal clear gel or balls. Then as I start to get my breathing back it's almost turns to a thin liquid I cough up .After about an hour I can breath fine again and I may only take my puffer once again the whole day. Any ideas? apparently I snore real bad, maybe even have sleep apnea so this makes it twice as hard to breath.
Well, you don't have COPD. If you did you would be coughing up phlegm and your breathing would be compromised. It sounds like inflammation. Try taking schisandra chinesnis. It is an herb that is both anti-inflammatory and drying. There are no side effects. My daughter had a relatively similar problem and this herb helped enormously.
I had heard such things can be expected after quitting, but to be on the safe side, saw a doctor who confirmed post-nasal drip, said my chest sounded clear and that it was probably allergy-related, and suggested I try taking an antihistamine. Also to be on the safe side, ordered a chest x-ray which came back negative.

I’ve been having phlegm where I have to constantly clear my throat or I feel it i my upper throat/nose area. It’s not liquid like, but thick. I don’t have any health conditions and don’t do drugs/drink alcohol. No sports and I drink a lot of water. This has been going on for 4 years. What could be the cause and what should I do?
Sometimes it feels thick enough that I bring it out of my throat and spit it out. When spit out, the phlegm is typically clear or white.
Finally I saw my primary care about 3 weeks ago. He said I have a post-nasal drip, and that I should have seen him when I first had the cold. He prescribed a 5-day dose of Zepac (azithromycin), an anti-biotic.
