Coughing green mucus with blood

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing green mucus with blood

coughing

When I blow my nose in the morning there is green/yellow coloured mucus with blood. My nose has blood present but isn't really bleeding. I have allergies to dust pollen and enviromental. This has been going on now for a week. There is no facial pain, just sneezing throughout the day. I started taking aerieus for the allergies. Is this causing the mucus to come out and my sinuses to dry out and bleed?
It is thus, much more important. Blood-tinged mucus is very common with a variety of infections. If combined with what would otherwise be yellow sputum it could present as orange sputum. Bloody sputum or pure blood is not. If not cleared from the lungs quickly, blood could conceivably be orangish rather than bright red. The presence of a little blood in sputum, especially with harsh coughing, is not a cause for alarm.
He told me point blank that he didn't expect to find anything, and that he, and the nurses in the room with him during the scope were quite surprised with the amount of mucus that was in my lungs. He did what he called a "lung wash" and I was cough free again for almost 10 days. It's back again, with the vomiting, etc. I've been reading up on LPR (a type of reflux) and think it matches me. I'm willing to go to a clinic who specializes in LPR.
Ok now here is my problem. I have been noticing that my nasal passage is constantly clogged with mucus. The dark green kind...its got a name...oh yea phlem? any ways. I've been coughing lightly and spitting it out every day for almost the past two weeks. I took some more nyquil and the cough is finally gone. Now, when I blow my nose, I see small traces of blood. Today is the third day that I've noticed it. should I be worried?
i can taste infection when i swallow and i keep coughing up mucus that has blood in it, what does blood in my mucus mean?
Symptoms can include a headache or pressure in the area of the sinuses, a stuffy nose, achy teeth, an odor coming from the nose, postnasal drip, cough, sore throat, lightheadedness, constant low fever, and thick, yellow to green nasal drainage. The best way to identify a sinus infection is with a sinus CT scan, although sinus x-rays are a decent alternative. A sinus CT scan will also identify if any of the openings that drain your sinuses are blocked.
Sometimes I can cough hard enough to get it up and other times it takes hours to finally get it up. It is thick and sticky, dark green sometimes mixed with neon green with dark brown center that is hard. I am a nurse so I had it cultured while I was at work one day and it was staph. Still didn't answer anything for me though. I don't know where it comes from. It is so annoying and grosses everyone out when I am constantly hacking and spitting in a tissue.
over the past few weeks I've been coughing up a lot of phlegm which is multi-coloured (clear, yellow, orange and green) and I went to see my doctor who diagnosed me with bronchitis, and prescribed me anti-biotics, which it turns out I'm allergic to, so I've stopped them. the phlegm occasionally contains streaks of blood through it, varying in quantity from the tiniest speck to quite thick streaks. I'm an 18 year old smoker by the way.
here's the dirty little medical secret--most of the problems with mucus, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, etc. are caused by nasal drainage from a chronic sinus infection/irritation. Doctors can't treat it well, because antibiotics don't reach the sinuses well, due to low blood circulation there. I teach grade school (germ factory) in Houston (mold city) near oil refineries (worst air pollution in U.S.
The combination of green mucus and blood is consistent with the diagnosis of acute bronchitis, but your continuing to raise blood, following antibiotic therapy, is worrisome. It raises the question of other diagnoses, namely pneumonia and blood clots to the lungs.
I had my usual yearly bout with Bronchitis in December. Around late January, I had an acute attack of itchy throat accompanied by a horrible non productive cough. Along with the cough I get a metallic taste of blood in the back of my throat. The attack can last for hours or until I break a allergy capsule in my mouth and swallow it without water, that and over regular antihistamines keep it down for a day or so, then I have another attack.
The nursery have now recommended a homeopath who I am going to try and see if it makes a difference as I really feel now two years after this started that it is affecting his quality of life - he can't play for too long with out fits of coughing - when he gets a cold he is sick every/every other day and at breakfast time he can hardly keep his breakfast down because of the phelgm he is unable to clear from his throat.
And the next day, I started coughing up small amounts of blood, sometimes combined with mucus, sometimes just blood clots, the blood seemed dark, not pink, and I didn't cough blood all the time, I would cough some blood, then it stopped, and maybe much later that day, or the next day, some more blood..
As my vitamin D levels are still low (and i forget sometimes to take my supplements lol) i am reminded when i have to keep clearing my throat due to excess mucus. Ugh! The mucus is gone within days of supplementing with vitamin D thankfully.
I have had the same cough for several years. It's always after I eat. I've been to all kinds of doctors and have tried all kinds of medicines but the only thing that ever helped me was Prednisone. The problem is that it's a steroid and doctors don't like to give it because it has side effects, but I can take it for 7 days and then I'm good for a couple of months with absolutely no coughing. When it starts again I take it for another week.
but spend anywhere between 2-8 hours coughing at night.. it is not a dry cough, in fact he seems to be bringing up a lot of mucus.. people have described it as an old mans cough and I would agree. it all started when he has a severe throat and chest infection... which cleared up with antibiotics, but the cough stayed.. this was 6 MONTHS AGO.. and he has not had one night since where he hasnt coughed. I have taken him to the doctors more times then i can remember..
I know it's not bacterial because I'm not coughing up a lot d green mucus or have that drowning feeling in my lungs. I think it's just my Annual Bronchitis kicking in it has always started during late fall early winter. But I am going to be setting a doctor appointment so I can get more of those Tessalon pearls.
I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.
The glob was white and seemed like a really thick mucus and it had globs of blood on it and a green mucus around it. I found that after that one sneeze I just had to blow once (clear mucus came out) and my nose was clear again. My throat and head still hurt really bad and now I am kinda feverish. Are this glob and sickness related or do I just have a cold and this just happened to happen now. Also I read that this was common after a surgery but I have never had any kind of surgery!
Mucus color has changed and less quantity, now more clear/white and less yellow/green - however now getting some light brown sometimes with light reddish tinge, was rare in past. Culture was taken during bronc - 3 weeks later nothing present yet- fungus not found. Feel good - jogging a mile a day. What is your guess as to what the problem is, what treatment is required now ? Thanks in advance !
I've heard that bright yellow or green mucus can indicate the presence of bacterial infection, but of course, this isn't a definitive test. Also, I've only had the congestion for about six full days, and I know it may be hard to tell this early on if I'm dealing with just the cold or a secondary infection. The second is the leaking of cerebrospinal fluid.
I hacked up the black mucus, then hacked up clear/yellow/green mucus later in the day. I just saw the black mucus again and I worry that I have lung problems. I don't continuously cough up black/grey phlem, only twice, hacking up other colors of mucus in between. Is it true that this black/gray mucus is a sign of lung cancer? I've been smoking for less than 2 years and not everyday. I know tons of people who smoke a lot more cigarettes than I do and they seem fine.
Since the bronchitis, the coughing has intensified. 4 nights ago I woke with violent coughing accompanied by stridor. I thought I was going to die and I think the only thing that calmed me down was that my mother was there and I knew she would be upset. Crazy. I saw my doctor that day and he told me it ws probably reflux and try sleeping a recliner. This has not helped at all. I've never had any symptoms of reflux. The episode happened at work today.
I am no doctor but I went through a similar situation...I had yellow and green Mucus and a bit of blood. I was told that when the mucus is yellow or green it usually indicates a viral infection. That could be the cause of most of your symptoms...have you gone to the doctor to get a Culture test of your throat?
I have not had fever or flu like symptoms but I have a lot of green mucus that I have been coughing up for over a week and this morning there was a lot of blood when I blew my nose. My ears also squeak when I blow my nose. I am taking Mucus Relief DM and it seems to help but in the mornings is the worse.
I have never smoked and don't drink any coffee. I also found that coughing up the mucus only WORSENS the problem. So I have been trying to remain calm and not cough it up. I also saw my doctor who prescribed a nasal spray for possible post nasal drip. I don't think that helped. I had also started using Neti Pot for clearing my sinuses. And also started drinking Apple Cidar Vinegar. This all has helped a bit with the mucus problem. I don't think it is acid refux as I never have heartburn.
I have a problem with mucus running into the throat from the nasal passages and causing coughing, it is generally quite loose, but sometimes have to cough hard to remove. Breathing from the lungs and nose is quite normal. Eating something hot or cold tends to increase the deposit and loosens it even more. Any idea what this is, and a possible remedy.
I have been in the Hospital 4 times this year,COPD. Very sick. And coughing constanly with mucus. Used Nebulizer, Advair, antibiotics and many things. Then I did a little research for myself, about when these attacks came on and eliminated many things first of all strong odors. perfums and aerosole sprays of any kind. Nuts, even peanut butter had a bad reaction so I stopped that, and I love nuts, they caught in my throat and I felt like I was strangling, I avoid milk products as well..
