I have a cold, am not a smoker but am coughing up blood in my phlegm.
Not a large amount about 5p/dime size. The actual phlegm was clearish with a green/grey tinge. The blood was bright red. Needles to say, after reading everything online I am now scared witless! I am going to speak to my GP tomorrow. It has not happened since. Has this happened to anyone else and it be nothing scarey?
i have had this cough for 2 months now and i would like to no that same question^^^^,when i cough it makes me vomit,and green and yellow flem comes out of my mouth i have been to the doctors and they have said its only hay fever or u have a lot of mucus , so they give me some tablets and the cough as not gone, i would like to what it could be and what could get rid of this cough i am really starting to worry now please some one right back

just have had a cough prior to the pain, and now the cough is mainly in the morning when i wake coughing up sputnum white/green occasionally with blood spots. Pain comes and goes usually goes away when laying down. any cause for concern. Pneumonia keeps coming up in my research but i think im overthing reacting and could be pulled muscle of some sort.
The second day I developed a fever of 102 which lasted for two days. I was coughing up hard green and blood filled mucus in the mornings only for those two days as well. Since day 4 I still have a severe sore throat and am coughing up dark yellow/green phlem in the mornings and have a nagging unproductive cough for the rest of the day. Two days ago I developed a medium sized white sore on the top of my throat (looks similar to a canker sore) and a couple of tiny ones around the edges.

I would say that the blood would be from coughing too much. I've had that after coughing too much. Just a couple of specks of blood, a once off. If you were coughing a lot of blood, you should see a doctor. But I wouldn't worry about that happening, it would be caused by something worse than the flu.
You cough because you are trying clear your throat. Flem in the throat comes from the nose, as the nose and throat are connected.

i have smoked for 41 years mostly roll ups with no filters or anything, but about 3 plus years ago i started putting filters in and after a few months started coughing up green phlegm i asked the doctor he just said getting older and smoking,
Some days it seems worse than others its really strange, i don't smoke load about 15 a day but there dead thin and i only smoke half at a time.
I visited two pulmonologists during these 6 months and they both did everything that could be done to rule out lung and heart problems like x-rays, blood tests, asthma tests, etc. They both told me that everything is ok. So what could it be? I thought of Acid reflux because I regularly get heartburns, took Pantozol 40 mg for 2 weeks and this didn't seem to help. Could it be Sinusitis?

For the past year or so I have been coughing up green colored stuff in a circular shape or disc shape. It is always the same looking disc-like thing. When I cough these little things up they are coming from below, not from my nose or sinuses that I can tell. I don't cough this up every day and sometimes they surprise me. All of a sudden I cough and one comes what feels like half way up and I sometimes gag on them or they get stuck in my throat and it's quite embarrasing.
My son who is 12 is having episodes of coughing up blood every 60 days --it started in March of 2012 -- it sometimes starts with sharp pains in his right side (front) -- or sometimes he just coughs up blood -- the coughing up of blood lasts for about 20 mins -- he coughs up about 1/2 of a specimen container of blood -- he says it feels like there is something he needs to cough up -- he coughs -- not too hard - and then spits into a cup and it is blood.
Thank you for your quick response. I know it's not bacterial because I'm not coughing up a lot d green mucus or have that drowning feeling in my lungs. I think it's just my Annual Bronchitis kicking in it has always started during late fall early winter. But I am going to be setting a doctor appointment so I can get more of those Tessalon pearls.
I have been splitting up lite green phlegm for the last two months. I was told by a non medical friend to not use any over the counter drugs because this might supress the secretions that need to come out naturally? Could he have a valid point of view and what do you recommend?

You need to see a specialist, perhaps an allergist or hematologist if an immunological problem is present. Coughing up green is usually indicative of an infection...did the doctors ever culture your sputum to see what is growing in there? If the bacteria was resistant to the antibiotics that you were given then they would be useless. I should also ask how your sinuses are doing as they could be a source of a lingering infection..
m hacking up strings of blood. Sometimes its blood strings, and others are just yellow or clear mucus. But its not like I cough up really bad and blood comes out. Its when I hack up and it makes that ugly sound. I feel a little dizzy and weak now. But Could the blood be from irritated nose and throat from constantly doing that.
