Concussion and facial numbness

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and facial numbness

concussion

Avatar f tn One said cervicogenic headaches and atypical facial pain (I have no pain in my neck) and currently, most facial pain is gone except nose and occasionally top teeth, the other said post traumatic “something” (exact words) when I said is it possible that it is post concussion?
Avatar f tn Common cold, sinusitis, ear infection, sensory nerve compression, peripheral neuropathy as in diabetes, inflamed wisdom tooth, impacted wisdom tooth etc can all cause facial numbness and pain. Hemi-facial numbness is also seen in Bell’s palsy, trigeminal neuralgia where a spasm may cause numbness, or due to acoustic neuroma which is a benign tumor of the eighth cranial nerve. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor.
Avatar n tn One week ago I suddenly experienced hearing loss and facial numbness on the right side of my head. I was sent for an MRI with contrast to check for acoustic neuroma. The test was negative and I still have no hearing and I still have the numbness. My physician is scratching his head as my symptoms don't fit other disorders. Any ideas? Thanks!
1353813 tn?1279249279 Facial nerve palsy is characterized by inability to close eye, loss of sensation on affected part, difficulty in speaking and mask like face on affected side because facial nerve innervates facial muscles and any damage to facial nerve may cause inability make facial expressions like smiling, frowning etc. Second possibility is Trigeminal neuralgia - neural pain of face with possible loss of sensation on the affected part of face but eye is seldom involved.
Avatar m tn Trauma to the head including blows, concussion can cause symptoms referred to the facial nerve. Since she has sensory symptoms, this could be trigeminal nerve involvement. There is vomiting which could mean collection of blood intracranially, possible subdural hematoma leading to raised intracranial pressure necessitating emergency intervention. I suggest that you do not lose time and head for the emergency room.
1427258 tn?1282925864 Among many other things the left side of my head bashed into where the seatbelt attaches to the car. I had a CT Scan to R/O bleeding. I have and continue to have loss of facial muscle expression on my whole face, Pain in the L side of my head, pain behind both eyes with pressure and swelling, more pressure if I get upset, constant headaches, numbness to the L side of my face that comes and goes, pain that radiates to the mastoid bone, upper and lower L jaw and then down my neck.
Avatar f tn The second one gave me a trip to the ER in a helicopter since they had trouble waking me up two days later. Did a CT and was told no blood and was placed on full rest for two days but ended up taking the full week off. (This is the second time I get a concussion with severe repercussion in 3 years).
Avatar f tn I have no lesions in my neck, but several in my brain, and have a lot of facial numbness as well as optic neuritis. My numbness extends down my neck on the right side, and all the way down my back - tapering off at the lumbar. It's possible I have lesions in the spine, but it hasn't been verified. There's a lot of nerves in the skull area - many people with MS present with facial paresthesia as their first symptom. I guess MS finds it easier to get to the head first.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with severe anxiety symptoms for two years, and one of the most disturbing symptoms is the facial numbness, it occurs mostly in the right side of my face during long spells and anxiety and panic attacks. This week has been the worse, it even makes speech difficult and strange. At times i feel as if I am paralyzed in one side of my face and that this is a serious condition that may become permanent. Has anyone experienced the same symptoms ?
4175869 tn?1351113817 I remember having it and I just happen to be at the NS talking with the NP and I was telling her symptoms and I said facial numbness and I said I have it now, and she said I know I can see it, as ur face is sagging a bit on the left....that is where it was numb....no one else had mentioned to me b4 that my face looked different, but she said the said I felt it on b4 I could and she said it is typical with those she/.they see with chiari.
Avatar m tn But I have also a friend that had a surgery on head and then a nerve got hurt and she has a numbness and more problems related to that, she is doing some facial exercises (move all the muscles she can) and they say that the nerve will grow back. She is on the way to recovery. So what I am trying to say is dont worry for now, you should maby do face exercises to help your recovery. Because I would think that you have hit some nerve when you fell, so now it just has to heal.
1080243 tn?1262975363 Does anyone suffer facial numbness? I have left eye that is shut somtimes and parts of face and hand are numb. Fatigue and weakness is intermittant. Cannot hold arms up to dry hair they ache really bad. sometimes vision is affected. tarter.
388376 tn?1302011418 no more numbness in ear, less numbness in tongue...but not at all what I had expected...and it is decreasing dose...so I guess time will tell..... I have significantly less pain though....that helps.....
Avatar m tn I had decompression surgery in june and noticed my facial numbness has gotten more frequent. It comes and goes. Mainly when laying down and also noticed I drool a little. I was told by one neurologist I had Parkinson's and was told by another I don't. I also shake on my left side if I stand still for too long. Could all this be chiari related?
Avatar n tn A few days later I noticed my tonuge was numb and tingling. then I noticed my right eye and right side of my face and head was numb. I have been having reduced mucle movement on that side. I do not have insurance and am unable to see a doctor. I get my diabetic medical treatment at a clinic. They are not equiped to handle nerve issues. We have a local hospital that takes people who cn not pay for services but it will take at least 3 weeks to get registard and make an appointment.
Avatar f tn The left side of my face felt wierd(stiff, tingling) one evening and when i woke up the next morning the whole left side was tingling and gradually became numb during the day., the numbness moved from my jaw to my lower lip and back again, this have never happened before and i have no idea what to do? I banged my head very hard about a week and a half prior to this - could it have something to do with this?
Avatar f tn There are many people here who have head and facial problems with their MS - usually it shows up as painful trigeminal neuralgia. I hope one of them see your quesiton and can help with a good explanation.
Avatar f tn Then in Sept 2007, first major attack with fatigue, facial numbness, numb hands, feet and right torso; MS hug; and double vision. As I say, it appears an elevated IgG index, despite no O-banding, was what finalized it. Oh, I had a nerve conduction study in 2006 which was normal. My initial MRI's in 2006 were normal as well, although looking back I'm not sure they were done as thoroughly as they could have been. I'm glad you have more tests scheduled for follow up.
712171 tn?1233921206 Hi, I am currently on Lithium (1000mg/day) for a recently diagnosed bipolar disorder, been taking Li for 4 months now and i have been getting a feeling round my lips and tongue and up my cheek sometimes like that of a dental anaesthetic wearing off. Now that particular side effect does not appear on the med sheet but is it due to Lithium? I mean has anyone else experienced that or is it just something else to add to my growing list of complaints?
388376 tn?1302011418 My jaw started to hurt, my teeth hurt when i ate and brushed my teeth. It even hurt to talk. Then slowly a numbness started to spread from my right temple to my chin. Also the inside of my mouth, teeth, gums and tongue are numb. I have been for various blood tests, a spinal tap and 3 mri's nothing came back. I went to a specialist that thought it was tmj, then a different jaw specialist that said nothing to do with my jaw .
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor and had an MRI which came back fine so he said it was probably Bells Palsy and gave me medicine. Every so often the numbness comes back and its still only on the left side of my face.I also notice that since then I have had that canker sore come back a few times in the same exact spot.It seems like they appear simutaneously at times . Although the numbness does appear more often .Its been 6 months now and it still comes and goes..
Avatar f tn From the middle of my upper lip, upper gum, teeth and jaw to just under my eye and includes the bottom edge of my nose. Feels almost like I have novicane starting to wear off I was first treated for shingles, I had no rash with prednisone Valacyclovir, which had no effect Was told not bell palsy as no drooping. I received an MRI which was normal except for a maxillary retention cyst on the LEFT side that I was told had no effect with what I was feeling on the right side.
Avatar f tn The symptoms you are describing bear resemblance to two possibilities which can be either facial nerve palsy characterized by inability to close eye, loss of sensation on affected part, difficulty in speaking and mask like face on affected side because facial nerve innervates facial muscles and any damage to facial nerve may cause inability make facial expressions like smiling, frowning etc.
Avatar n tn My daughter just started a swimming class in College. Today she woke up with facial numbness on 1 side. She went to a physician who did a thorough checkup and could not find anything wrong. She said if it continued she would order an MRI. Her teeth are fine, ears and throat are okay. The Physician said she did not have meningitis or Bells Palsy. Can you help.
Avatar f tn Currently 32 wks and began witb facial numbness. Has anyone else has this?!?
Avatar f tn things that started to happen were after another concussion. That was where the cough headaches began and numbness, and all the other Chiari goodies. Although we are born with it, it appers that just the right combination of hits to the head can activate things. I know exactly when I hit my head and things started happening, it took about five years after though to be to be at the point where I really knew something was wrong.
