at CAMHS(Child and adolescent mental health services) I was informed that my son will no longer be eligble to receive prescriptions for Concerta(methylphenidate). This will be due to a large backlog in the NHS and they can only offer support/receive funding for children upto the age of 16. I was told this is nothing specific against us just general policy, so I was wondering where to turn next to coninue the treatment offered?

I checked his eyes this morning before he took his Concerta pill and his eyes were still dialated, but not as badly as after he takes the Concerta. Should I take him to an eye doctor or should I discuss this with his psychiatist (who prescribes his Concerta) first?

Yes i'm on Concerta, which is for the ADHD i have, and it's a stimulant. I take 72 mg. of it. I don;t know whether it's that that's messing with my heart rate, or something else, but it'll take long to recover after exercise, it'll start racing sometimes when i'm sitting and a lot when i'm standing. Last night, i was leaning against the counter and i felt nauseous all of a sudden, short of breath, dizzy, and my heart was beating funny.

Hello, I also have adult ADD and I have tried both Concerta and Vyvanse. My doctor wanted me to try Concerta for a few weeks and I didn't like it at all. It didn't agree with me. It made it feel depressed and NOT motivated to do everyday things. I was on a 36 mg dose and when I went back to my doctor I told him I hated it. He mentioned that there is a new medication called Vyvanse and asked if I would like to try it. With nothing to lose, I said yes. I do like Vyvanse.

Hello, Before I start, I would like to mention a few things. I have been diagnosed with ADHD combined(mild), Anxiety(NOS), and Bipolar disorder type 1(recent episode mixed;severe). Like I mentioned earlier I am on my almost 3rd week of taking concerta and i hate it. I still don’t know if I am adhd but I am having the same problems as I did with the vyvanse. Severe headache and pain in between my shoulder blades. I have had a full cardio workout and I am 44 in good health and have no other problems than Hashimotos which I am not yet taking meds for when this is all over. Can someone please help??

Make an anonymous call to child protective services. Whether the marijuana affects the child or not it's still illegal and does slow down the cognition of grown adults so only god knows how it reacts in an infant.

Thanks for the info. Would be surprised if it was the Concerta since you have been on it so long. Though you might want to try the high protein breakfast and see if you notice a difference (lots of protein drinks out there) in how the meds work for you. I mentioned the eyes, because I had a problem where if I got a sudden bright light, I got some serious flashes, etc going on. My eye doc suggested I take a supplement with Lutein and Zeaxanthin in it.

Im a 16 yearold male that plays a ton of sports and works out a lot but I'm never hungry! Its really weird all my buddies eat a ton of food after our games and in general there always hungry! He is 20 years old and has been dealing with this since early childhood. He was on Ritilin and Concerta for a while but he hate taking medicine. He says he just wants someone to teach him to deal with his anger and temper. Is there any help out there like medical studies to help him? I can see being on V and perhaps adderall in the late after noon. Or concerta and ritalin in the late afternoon. Since the Concerta/ritalin are the same type of meds. Same thing for Vyvannse and Adderall. Point being, why was the V not working for you? What symptoms did you have. I would think that the two could have been over dosing you. Did you ever try just V alone?

im in need of some help. i need health insurance but i just lost my job. now that i have palpitations im scared to drive or do anything. i went to the er and they did a ct scan with contrast and said they didnt find anything wrong. i just feel like crap. out of energy. all blood test came back good. i got a ct scan with contrast for my head last week but i havent heard back from them with the results so im guessing they didnt find anything.

Assuming I read your description correctly, you are still taking Concerta, right? If that's the case then be advised that Concerta, like all stimulants, has the side effect of hair loss(http://www.drugs.com/sfx/concerta-side-effects.html). It's likely that most doctors won't mention this, because it isn't a very prevalent side effect.

Started treating right before she turned 5. She has been on Concerta since she was 5. Started at 18 mg and ever so often had to increase. She's been on 54 mg a day for at least the past 3 years or so. Well lately we noticed It's not working as well as it once was. She also takes Focalin 10 mg in the afternoon when needed. The concerta is wearing off in 5-6 hrs and when she takes the focalin in the pm u can't even tell she's taken anything.

Concerta does not cause the enlarged heart, but definitely increases the heart rate and causes other chest pains, so cardiovascular monitoring is a MUST with all the ADHD-drug taking children. My son has a 5-6 mm hole in his heart and we get Eco every year, just because he is taking Concerta. So far, we were lucky and did not have to suspend taking it. If they say it - keep him off of it. I am sorry to say that.

He only was aggressive towards children after being on Concerta, which we took him off of. So in the past three years we have been on Concerta (2 strengths) and they allowed him to "make" it through the school day for about 3 months. After we went to the higher dose he became very aggressive and easily angered. So our family doctor recommended a psychologist see him. After 3 months of testing and counseling sessions....we learned this....
