concerta

13415927 tn?1430701518 my psychiatrist was very dubious to put me on ADD medication as im an ex crystal meth addict. obvious reasons. ive been clean for 8 years now and have been on concerta for almost a year. but i am bipolar and have very bad anxiety. concerta works very well for my ADD but not for my anxiety, is there a better way to get the best of both worlds?
Avatar m tn I have been taking Concerta for one year. This was to counteract the fatigue and sleepiness that I had been getting from taking Paxil for depression. Though Concertat was initially effective, it gradually became more of a detriment than help. It made me very irritable, unfocused, and moody. I have worked with my doctor to gradually phase concerta out from the 72m I was taking daily.
Avatar f tn Concerta does not cause the enlarged heart, but definitely increases the heart rate and causes other chest pains, so cardiovascular monitoring is a MUST with all the ADHD-drug taking children. My son has a 5-6 mm hole in his heart and we get Eco every year, just because he is taking Concerta. So far, we were lucky and did not have to suspend taking it. If they say it - keep him off of it. I am sorry to say that.
Avatar f tn Im a 19 years old boy and i have tried vyvanse which did miracles at first at 20mg until the effect decreased and had to go up to 60mg with no effects except the bad ones and went back to my old self(lazy, tired, unmotivated etc.). I am now on concerta 36mg and it seems like working but not all the time and clearly not as much as first time vyvanse.
Avatar f tn Hi I have been on Concerta 56mg - 72mg on and off for several years. However, recently I came across a study that showed that long term use of the med impairs brain cells so I stopped abruptly. It has been years since I have been completely off the drug and I noticed that I have lost alot of my personality. I used to be so bubbly talkative and hammy. I no longer possess any of those qualities anymore, among other issues and I feel that they may be due to the long term use of the drug.
Avatar n tn My 12 year old son is on Concerta 54 mg. He has been on Concerta in gradual doses since kindergarten. Now when the medication is wearing off, he becomes angry and agressive. I have never seen this side of him before. He used to become depressed so we restructured our evening activities to work around the depression. I am at a loss and am very concerned. Thank you in advance for any input on this question.
Avatar m tn I have been going to the same psychiatrist for over 5 years and have been recently given Concerta about 4 months ago. My original diagnosis was depression/anxiety disorder and he believes I have a learning disability. During this time, the Concerta dose moved up 3 times and was given a new script. Some of these scripts were turned in during the same month. The doctor added on ritalin on a separate script one month.
Avatar n tn I started taking concerta 8 months ago and it has made ia great change in the fear I USED to have speaking in front of people . I till stutter but not near as often when speaking in front of adults .
Avatar m tn Prior to that I had had periodical depression as well mood swings since the age 12 and through out the years I was prescribed all sorts of anti-depressant medication as well as ECT and vagus nerve implant, none of which made any substantial difference to my mood disorders . The last medication I tried was Olanzapine which after the first two months or so made things a lot worse and my depression became permanent even after I stopped taking Olanzapine.
Avatar m tn Hey Chris, I just wanted to add that while some of the symptoms you described could be coming from the Concerta (it never hurts to google concerta and check out the symptoms), several are also ADHD symptoms - particularly the, ",mood swings, thoughts of suicide, couldnt fall asleep, depression, and anger." So I would make very sure that you are aware of what ADHD can do to you. It is your disease, and the best way to conquer it is with information about it.
Avatar n tn My 9 yr. old little girl has been on 18Mg of Concerta, with some success. The Dr. prescribed 5 mg. of aderall along with the Concerta, that has also had proven results for us. The Dr. now says to increase the Aderall to 10mg. so we did that today. She is now on 18mg of Concerta and 10mg of Aderall. What can we expect from this increase and is this combination to high of a doseafge for a 70 puond 9 yr. old.
2083581 tn?1332307861 I currently use Ritalin for ADD and it also helps depression. Does anyone have suggestions for supplementing this with another drug. I have heard wellbutrin works well with Ritalin but I would like to here from someone with experience. Ritalin is the only drug that has ever helped me but when it wears off I am depressed again. (and I have tried Concerta and did like it) Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn only took it 5 days now I am discontinue it. My doc mentioned trying concerta or strattera. Anybody have experience like this or with these meds?
Avatar f tn My son is soon to be 17 years old. He has been on 54mg of Concerta for 4 years plus. Before that he was on Ritalin, both for ADD. This medication treatment was recommended some time ago to help him academically and I must say, it has not really helped all these years. He continues to struggle in school and has trouble with depression so I am writing to request some clarity. Recently, his doctor has recommended a higher dose of Concerta.
1756969 tn?1332437163 i am about to try going back on concerta 36mg and see if it will help. i also have depression and am starting a new med called celexa. any info will help. thanks!! not sure what i should be looking for in healthy changes.
Avatar f tn After trying a few medications, his doctor chose Concerta as his daily medicine. It seemed to help a little with his so called "hyper" behavior. However, the doctor has increased the dosage a few times and my son is now taking 54mg.
Avatar f tn We now switched him to concerta (lasts longer than focalin)...and added Prozac. Teacher really likes the results at school. However...evenings are hectic. He becomes very silly and immature. Often displaying autistic like behaviors--flapping hands, grunting, weird noises etc. Demeanor is relatively happy and giggly....Before just on ADHD meds...the withdrawal he was very angry and aggressive. He takes clonodine to sleep. But is very amped up at night. Could this be a side effect?
Avatar m tn ADHD, mild-moderate schizophrenia spectrum disorder (high functioning juvenile paranoid schizophrenic possible), tourette syndrome ( coprolalia), anxiety disorder, OCD, highly possibly aspergers and depression. I have not been on an ADHD med in years, because they gave me insomnia. I have been on both stimulate (concerta, adderall) and non-stimulant (strattarra) drugs. I definitely feel that concerta worked very well for me.
Avatar n tn Your mind slows down and maybe diagestive / constipation. My daughter was treated for ADD and we found out she had thyriod. Depression , cold or hot. hyper, not hyper, Temp always below normal and pulse slow or high with out a lot of movement. She was very under weight but the Concerta keep her from eating. But she was hypothriodism. More and More kids and adults are getting it. Lot of people with depression may have thyriod problems. Hope this helps.
1768088 tn?1409087815 Started treating right before she turned 5. She has been on Concerta since she was 5. Started at 18 mg and ever so often had to increase. She's been on 54 mg a day for at least the past 3 years or so. Well lately we noticed It's not working as well as it once was. She also takes Focalin 10 mg in the afternoon when needed. The concerta is wearing off in 5-6 hrs and when she takes the focalin in the pm u can't even tell she's taken anything.
14987738 tn?1437742035 In September of last year I was admitted for my depression, I was diagnosed with major depression disorder, anxiety, schizophrenia, and ADD, I was put on Vyvanse 30 mg, Zoloft 50mg later upped to 100, Abilify 5mg, I was doing good when I got out, vyvanse has helped my concentration steady, I stopped Zoloft and Abilify months ago because they were no help but my vyvanse has been causing troubles, I feel more depressed, and depression runs on both sides of the family, I rarely sleep, I sometimes g
Avatar f tn So the first time I went there the PDoc said its sounds like adhd. He gave me concerta 18mg for a month. I didnt see much of a difference but did realize that i do focus a bit easier. But realy not much. Then after a month he put me on 27mg concerta. I didn't feel a very big difference but did realise that I was more focussed and felt more tired at night and got more sleep. So after that month the concerta dosage stayed the same but the pdoc gave me 25mg lamictal with it.
Avatar n tn I just started taking Concerta (36 mg) and I immediately developed shingles. My doctor swears it's a coincidence, but after seeing your post I can't help but wonder. I had chicken pox as a child, but I've never had shingles before now. What happened in your case? I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do.
16613731 tn?1449676204 Assuming I read your description correctly, you are still taking Concerta, right? If that's the case then be advised that Concerta, like all stimulants, has the side effect of hair loss(http://www.drugs.com/sfx/concerta-side-effects.html). It's likely that most doctors won't mention this, because it isn't a very prevalent side effect.
Avatar n tn Just wondering, is it normal for your arms and legs to feel very heavy when you are depressed? I'm pretty sure I have depression and low mood of some kind which is always there, but during very low points, some times it is hard to move my limbs or even walk, I have to sit down where I am standing and wait. And my breathing feels very slow.
Avatar f tn I checked his eyes this morning before he took his Concerta pill and his eyes were still dialated, but not as badly as after he takes the Concerta. Should I take him to an eye doctor or should I discuss this with his psychiatist (who prescribes his Concerta) first?
Avatar f tn My son is 8 on concerta and he also wets his pants I am begining to wonder I have read the literature and can't find any connection. But I do wonder.
