He is 10 and on Concerta 54 mg (for last almost 3 years) and Zoloft 100 mg and Intuniv 2 mg and recently Risperdal 0.25 mg every am and 0.5 mg q pm. The neurologist wanted to add another med Abilify on board as he was still having some outburst behavior. I find this troubling that he wants my child on 5 psychoactive meds. we sought a second opinion from a psychiatrist that our son's therapist recommended.
Any psychiatropic medications such as Risperdal should be tapered and weaned off slowly and I would never undergo this without a directive from your doctor. Symptoms of withdrawel from risperdal can be uncomfortable--- insomnia, hallucinations, irritability, etc. The key is to wean slowly to either make these symptoms less or to not experience them at all. Cold turkey is not the way to go.
But for the longest time it was frustrating. We have him on Stratera, and that works wonders for bed wetting and AD/HD. Concerta does not work well for either. We have had him checked numerous times for bladder issues and he checks out fine.
We have also bought the bed wetting alarm from Amazon.com. The one that hooks into the underwear and the shirt and makes a buzzing noise and vibrates to wake the child as soon as he starts to wet himself.
I have an 8 year old son that has adhd,mood disorder, and sleeping problem. He currently one concerta 36mg in morning, risperdal 0.25 mg, and clondine 0.1 mg one and half pill at night. We just moved am having problems with him at school with his behavior, not finishing classwork, threatning, and hitting people. So i was watching a show on tv this morming. I just want to know could i use natural medication along with prescribed meds. I check online and found out about fish oil is that true.
I would like to know what would be a good allergy medicine that can be taken with risperdal. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I have given him claritin and it does not work. Thank you for any advice you can give.
We took him to his medication recheck appt. yesterday. He is becoming more aggressive, and throws things and hits and acts out. We have been going through some major life changes, as I am divorcing his father who was abusive, and we have had to move in with my parents until I am done with nursing school.
The doctor was unwilling to try to change his medications, (even though we have only tried concerta), and said that it is time to try inpatient treatment to find the right medications.
My son now has Seizures after being on Adderall and then Concerta and was on Risperdal until we had to take him to the Hospital one night,I thou I was going to lose my son and he was very scared to and going in and out of Seizures. The one Doctor told me to take him off slowly because they are know good for someone who has Seizures. My Son Seizures started out where you couldn't even know he was ahving them.
Three weeks ago, the Psychiatrist added in Intuniv...OH MY GOSH...the Concerta and Intuniv were PERFECT....Great days at school and an amazing kid emerged...Then at the end of two weeks he developed a tic...This was so horrible...They were happening about 12 - 16 per minute. raised eyebrows, eyes rolling to back of the head, head tilt to the side and a humming sound. We called Psych. and Concerta was stopped. However a week later, the tics are still here...not as frequent...
The child did not have any signs of tics or movement in any part of the body or face before taking Concerta and Risperdal. The child was on concerta for two years and Rispirdal for just over a year.

It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away. Risperdal of course has a good mood stabilization effect. They can coordinate about this as well.
Well it depends. Risperdal is an antipsychotic and it is effective in treating psychosis. Asperger's is a developmental disability and thus doesn't specifically respond to antipsychotics. What is the Risperdal specifically being used for? Also there is a community specifically for Asperger's.
I was taking risperdal for 6 month (4MG) and stopped "cold turkey" as the doctor suggested. now for 2 month i am having insomnia. can not sleep more then 3 hours per night.
What can i do and how long should it take to get my normal sleep? how long the insomnia last?
I have been taking Concerta for one year. This was to counteract the fatigue and sleepiness that I had been getting from taking Paxil for depression. Though Concertat was initially effective, it gradually became more of a detriment than help. It made me very irritable, unfocused, and moody. I have worked with my doctor to gradually phase concerta out from the 72m I was taking daily.
She is 39 years old. I have been trying to be hard-nosed and told her that she can't live with me anymore if she keeps on doing drugs. So, she left, and she went completely off the risperdal for about 3 days now. And, as I figured, she is currently in the hospital because of an episode. The people that she decided to "hang with" are enablers so they let her go cold turkey on the risperdal even though I told them that she could get psychotic if she does.
We tried putting my 9 year old son (who has ADHD) on Concerta about a month ago and after about 4 days, he started frequently rolling his eyes involuntarily up and to the right. We took him off immediately, but the symptoms have persisted. I'm not sure if it was caused by the Concerta, as he'd previously been on it for a month about a year ago and did not display the eye rolling. Does anyone know if there is a correlation, and if this is something that will stop?
Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.
In addition I am tapering off diazepam and down to 2mg in the morning and 1 at night. Everytime I try to get off the concerta I get terrible anxiety from it. I have it to a degree while on it also. I want off but my dr who takes 3 weeks to get into anyway, won’t switch me to a med I can taper off of. I know 3 weeks is a short time compared to what most of you have been through. But can someone please tell me how long my withdrawals are going to last??
