Hi, I am 16 years old and have been on concerta for almost a year. I know all about the ticks because I got the same thing, even blinking, clearing my throat, and rolling my eyes constantly. My mom and I were worried about this at first, but I stayed on the meds. The ticks eventually went away along with all the other side affects. I have no permanent damage and to be honest I am so glad I stayed on the concerta, i am focused and my head is more clear than it's ever been.
My son has been on Concerta for almost 2 weeks. He is getting worse. He is hurting other kids at school for no reason. And he's never did this before. Can it be that this med is not agreeing with him. He took Ritalin La before and never did any of this. He was better.
Can this meds make him agressive?
In addition I am tapering off diazepam and down to 2mg in the morning and 1 at night. Everytime I try to get off the concerta I get terrible anxiety from it. I have it to a degree while on it also. I want off but my dr who takes 3 weeks to get into anyway, won’t switch me to a med I can taper off of. I know 3 weeks is a short time compared to what most of you have been through. But can someone please tell me how long my withdrawals are going to last??
So, it is reported that it begins working fast in the morning and continues to control symptoms during the day and then tapers off at hours 10 to 12. Concerta may have a slightly better effect in those last two hours but less of an effect early on in the day after taking it. Both have a pretty similar side effect profile and you are familiar with these from your child's current medication.
I was diagnosed with ADHD (to add to my list of other mental health issues) at the age of 21 and was put on Concerta as treatment. Well, three years has passed and my dosage has increased to 108 mg/morning. At 72 mg I started developping speech problems and then they worsened at 90 mg. It was so bad, that ny doctor reduced my dose but later on he decided to increase it back up as I was having a lot of struggles.
I have a 5 year old daughter who has recently been "kicked out" of pre-school for aggression. My husband & I have taken her to therapy and we are now trying medication (Concerta 36mg). Nothing seems to be working and the aggression is worsening. I love my baby girl and it is breaking my heart to see her so unhappy all the time. We are doing everything that is recommended in therapy (behavior charts, ect) and still no progress.
My dad is snorting my sisters concerta. We've caught him once a couple of years ago and he said he stopped. he's only giving my sister half a pill (54 miligrams) now. He's doing it constantly and drinking like theres no tomorrow. His belly is VERY hard and round. I know thats a stage of liver problems. Serious liver problems. What could it do to him? and my sister only getting half of her pill?
Three weeks ago, the Psychiatrist added in Intuniv...OH MY GOSH...the Concerta and Intuniv were PERFECT....Great days at school and an amazing kid emerged...Then at the end of two weeks he developed a tic...This was so horrible...They were happening about 12 - 16 per minute. raised eyebrows, eyes rolling to back of the head, head tilt to the side and a humming sound. We called Psych. and Concerta was stopped. However a week later, the tics are still here...not as frequent...

Your doctor is being smart to not put you on a combination of Adderall and Concerta. They are both nervous system stimulants and together they can cause cardiac events such as a heart attack... How long have you been on the Bupropion? It can take 6-8 weeks to have any effect on your body..but that drug in most cases is not used to treat ADD and studies have proven that its not very effective in treating ADD.
I have heard many times what you are both saying about your children and being on Concerta. and I want you to both do this for your child . Get them an EEG and don't take no form your childrens Doctors. I know this because my son started to have seizures once he was on these drugs and it could be from the drugs or because he never had ADD OR ADHD it was Seizures witch can look like ADD OR ADHD OR BOTH.

My feeling which is a pretty strong one is that none of us are doctors on this site and that you need to listen to the heart doc. First off you never under any circumstance want to take anyone off of a heart med suddenly because it causes a reaction called rebound which could be deadly to anyone...meaning that if the heart meds are stopped suddenly without the person being weaned off of them the symtoms come back times three at a min. and could put your little girl in a world of hurt.
You also might try and figure out when it is happening. A lot of kids don't like to poop at school (for a variety of reasons) and try and hold it. When they finally get to the point where they realize it won't work, they don't always make it to the bathroom in time.
By the way, if it is happening in school, you also might want to check out his teacher's bathroom policies - sometimes they can be really stupid.
I brought him back to the Dr and they put him on Concerta...we started at a low dose and now after changing the doses and given it time he is up to 54mg. and that did the trick, but once he got home from school he was out of control again. So we went back to the docs in September for a med check and I explained everything to the Dr we decided to try a low dose of Methalyn 15mg for 1 o'clock to get him through the night.
I have been taking Concerta for one year. This was to counteract the fatigue and sleepiness that I had been getting from taking Paxil for depression. Though Concertat was initially effective, it gradually became more of a detriment than help. It made me very irritable, unfocused, and moody. I have worked with my doctor to gradually phase concerta out from the 72m I was taking daily.
We tried putting my 9 year old son (who has ADHD) on Concerta about a month ago and after about 4 days, he started frequently rolling his eyes involuntarily up and to the right. We took him off immediately, but the symptoms have persisted. I'm not sure if it was caused by the Concerta, as he'd previously been on it for a month about a year ago and did not display the eye rolling. Does anyone know if there is a correlation, and if this is something that will stop?
His pediatrcian has put him on 56 mg of Concerta with an addicional 19 mg while at school and 10 mg after school so we can get through homework. We recently started seeing a psychatrist and he said the school meds are way too high and should only take at most 56mg for school. He seemed ok on the higher dose. What should I do?
He was first prescribed concerta. He did very well for about two weeks and then started to act very violent aggressive and angry. The doctor doubled the dose and the anger and aggression etc. became worse. That was when the doctor diagnosed Bipolar and took him off stimulant and put him on Resperidone / mood stabilizer. He has been on resperidone for 11/2 week showing only ADHD and ODD symptoms. He is driving us crazy but not showing any signs of anger or aggression.
Pull him off Ritalin and try Concerta and try it in lower to higher doses. Ritalin at a higher dose was hard on my 10 yr old. He was diagnosed with ODD when he was 5 and it takes time. We got over hurdles by therapy, putting him in extracurrricular activites. He is now on Concerta 54mg in the morning and takes 5mg of Ritalin in the afternoon.
Concerta has been great, no side effects or anything. We had bad reactions with vyvvanse with my 6yr old - as in hallucinations big time.
My mom and sister are both teachers and even they agreed. My son was not one of those kids that there was any grey area on whether or not he had ADHD. We knew it wasn't behavior issues due to lack of discipline. He was respectful, did not throw temper tantrums, played well with other children, etc... He was just wild alllllll the time as if he were being run by a motor. When the motor shut off he would fall dead asleep among his toys but he could never lay in his bed and fall asleep.
