Concerta and intuniv

Common Questions and Answers about Concerta and intuniv

concerta

Avatar f tn Three weeks ago, the Psychiatrist added in Intuniv...OH MY GOSH...the Concerta and Intuniv were PERFECT....Great days at school and an amazing kid emerged...Then at the end of two weeks he developed a tic...This was so horrible...They were happening about 12 - 16 per minute. raised eyebrows, eyes rolling to back of the head, head tilt to the side and a humming sound. We called Psych. and Concerta was stopped. However a week later, the tics are still here...not as frequent...
Avatar n tn He started a weaning of the Concerta and wants it off in 3 weeks, and increased the Intuniv to 3 mg and kept Zoloft and Risperdal the same. My son has now started to have horrible motor tics again....is this common when weaning off a stimulant ? Also My son has gained at least 14 lbs in 2.
Avatar m tn As far as I know, the only two are intuniv and concerta. They use different formulations. No clue which is better. I think it probably depends on the individual. Both do take a while to take effect (compared to a stimulant). If you google them, you will be able to see lots of anecdotal posts on how it worked for that poster or their children. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn my 11 yoa son has been tried concerta, vynase, addrall all of these caused face tics and worsen ADHD to the point of crying and shaking. he was put on stattera which seemed to be the wonder drug, but it peaks out early. while at school that leaves about 4 hours for problems. its as if hes taking nothing at all after first 5 hours. our doctor has added intuniv. can i get another proffesional opinion about the mixture or these two medications.
5757880 tn?1395578022 No, these problems start about 2 weeks after school began, the behavior I mean. Then the doctor decided to try intuniv and that didn't work so she gradually removed him from Vyvanse and Intuniv and started him on Concerta. The tactile issues seem to come after the Concerta. She took him off Vyvanse because she didn't want to raise the level (36mg also) and he seemed to be having issues, more mood swings, it would wear off quickly.
Avatar n tn Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.
Avatar f tn After trying a few medications, his doctor chose Concerta as his daily medicine. It seemed to help a little with his so called "hyper" behavior. However, the doctor has increased the dosage a few times and my son is now taking 54mg.
89592 tn?1391274422 m writing for my daughter who has a 17 yr old son, had his thyroid removed in December and dr is recommending stratera or intuniv. He has ADHD with severe compulsivity, anxiety and possible ODD. He cannot take the stimulant meds anymore because of his high heart rate, mood swings and depression. Anyone know which workks better? Or is there a non stimilant that will work. He was on Concerta but that didnt work for him. I have been hearing about the ATTEND diet. Any ideas for my teen.
Avatar f tn The doctor recommended to keep him in the 40 mg of Vyvanse, which he takes in the morning, and in the evening give him 1 mg of Intuniv. Do you know if that will help with his concentration at school?
Avatar f tn 02mg of intuniv at night and .02mg in the morning. I had a very bad experience with intuniv. Then we tried 40 mg vyvanse with .02mg of kapvey (another form of clonidine), I have been on this combination for about six months, which have been about the best, most productive, and calm six months i've had since being diagnosed. I find that the decrease in my vyvanse was enough to calm my side effects, and the clonidine was enough to control my adhd. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn My 11 yr old son has been taking 6 mg of Intuniv and 60 mg of Vyvanse daily for about 4 years. This combo has successfully managed his ADHD. He is on the smaller side height wise and we asked our Dr. about taking a med break this summer. He agreed and said to discontinue the Vyvanse but continue the Intuniv which we did on Friday. Since then my son has been constantly tired and ravenously hungry.
Avatar f tn My 3 year old son had been on many ADHD medicine and now on vyvanse during the day and intuniv at night and I gave him the intuniv earlier and now hes acting all crazy and bouncing off walls literally. What do I do?
Avatar f tn My son now has Seizures after being on Adderall and then Concerta and was on Risperdal until we had to take him to the Hospital one night,I thou I was going to lose my son and he was very scared to and going in and out of Seizures. The one Doctor told me to take him off slowly because they are know good for someone who has Seizures. My Son Seizures started out where you couldn't even know he was ahving them.
Avatar n tn I just very recently read that Guanfacine (brand name Tenex, and the extended release Intuniv) may be something I could be looking into...do you have any other suggestions for drugs I should look into/research and mention to my doctor??? Please HELP!!! any useful input is VERY much appreciated!! My feedback and experience with meds ================================ Social anxiety: I first tried Paxil (high school) and that worked pretty good for the social anxiety.
969557 tn?1314370614 My son was on concerta and adderall and they both can cause seizures. I would ask doctor to you for an egg and make sure you are not having seizures.Witch is a side effect to concerta and can not be reversed .They can only give you medicine to try and control the seizures. I wish we had never put my son on these medicines.
1744544 tn?1311299862 Instead, he has now taken me off of my Adderall and put me on 1mg of Intuniv, which is for CHILDREN ages 6-17.. I am a 27 year old woman who has been taking 60mg of Adderall for over 2 years, and he just STOPS and puts me on this.. Not to mention, my 6 year old son was recently prescribed 2mg of Intuniv and it turned him into a Zombie..
Avatar m tn He was first prescribed concerta. He did very well for about two weeks and then started to act very violent aggressive and angry. The doctor doubled the dose and the anger and aggression etc. became worse. That was when the doctor diagnosed Bipolar and took him off stimulant and put him on Resperidone / mood stabilizer. He has been on resperidone for 11/2 week showing only ADHD and ODD symptoms. He is driving us crazy but not showing any signs of anger or aggression.
1756970 tn?1314376733 hi, concerta ,and stratara, and all the others my doc put me on didn't come close to adderall. focalin worked to but was costly. adderall leavels your brain, and lets you be yourself. the way your supose to be.
Avatar m tn What medications would be appropriate and relatively low risk for him? Do you have any expoerience with Intuniv and WPW?
Avatar m tn I have been taking Concerta for one year. This was to counteract the fatigue and sleepiness that I had been getting from taking Paxil for depression. Though Concertat was initially effective, it gradually became more of a detriment than help. It made me very irritable, unfocused, and moody. I have worked with my doctor to gradually phase concerta out from the 72m I was taking daily.
Avatar n tn We tried putting my 9 year old son (who has ADHD) on Concerta about a month ago and after about 4 days, he started frequently rolling his eyes involuntarily up and to the right. We took him off immediately, but the symptoms have persisted. I'm not sure if it was caused by the Concerta, as he'd previously been on it for a month about a year ago and did not display the eye rolling. Does anyone know if there is a correlation, and if this is something that will stop?
Avatar n tn I started taking concerta 8 months ago and it has made ia great change in the fear I USED to have speaking in front of people . I till stutter but not near as often when speaking in front of adults .
Avatar m tn In addition I am tapering off diazepam and down to 2mg in the morning and 1 at night. Everytime I try to get off the concerta I get terrible anxiety from it. I have it to a degree while on it also. I want off but my dr who takes 3 weeks to get into anyway, won’t switch me to a med I can taper off of. I know 3 weeks is a short time compared to what most of you have been through. But can someone please tell me how long my withdrawals are going to last??
558991 tn?1226060828 She is now 18 and she takes Concerta 72 mg. daily. Because of her ADHD, she has become a compulsive eater and is now very obese. Now that she is 18, she wants to try weight loss pills like Alli and Lipozene. I advised her against it, saying diet and excersise are the best options, but she has a lot of trouble loosing weight, like most of my family. I am very worried that Concerta mixed with any weight loss medications can cause problems. Are my fears rational? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hello all! I have had attention problems since icould remember. Im 24 now. But only in the year or so I've realized that it has actually caused a lot of problems study wise for me. I feel constantly bored or loos interest in the smallest tasks and tend not to sleep allot because it feels like I can't switch the conversations off in my head. I only really realized that my behavior was a bit odd, when my friend kept telling me that I walk around and interrupt allot of people in class.
Avatar n tn My son was on ability it worked great but unfortunately he was allergic he's now on intuniv by itself and it works great also
