Avatar f tn I just had a blood test, and my white blood cell count is 18.2. what can this be a symton of? Do I need to take care of this immediately? I get very tired very quickly and get dizzy if move too fast.
Avatar f tn I had a complete blood count with differential yesterday that showed normal values for all ranges. Is this sufficient to show no HIV or is that a separate test?
Avatar f tn The number of white blood cells (WBCs) in the blood. The WBC is usually measured as part of the CBC (complete blood count). White blood cells are the infection-fighting cells in the blood. There are different types of white blood cells, including neutrophils (polymorphonuclear leukocytes; PMNs), band cells (slightly immature neutrophils), T-type lymphocytes (T cells), B-type lymphocytes (B cells), monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone has had several CBC's and had slightly elevated white blood count? The last 3-4 times in which I've had a complete blood count they notice that it's elevated but not to the point where it becomes a concern ( so the doctor says) but I still find it strange.

Avatar n tn probably means that the particular test could not find any virus and that the test was good down to 75 copies, or units per milliliter of blood . To be safe, you should test again sometime. If again the results say that you have less than 75 or 50 or whatever the limits of detection are for the test, you should feel pretty good that you do not have an active chronic infection. Some available tests are so sensitive that they can reveal counts as low as 2.
Avatar f tn Your U is units L is liters. Units per Liters. Your WBC= white blood cell = Neutrophils, Lymphocytes. Fight off infection. Your Neutros are the helper cells while your lymphs are killer cells. They are high, if your white count is down you are more susceptible to infection. I'm not sure what the ranges are in order to start treatment because I haven't started yet myself. That is the easiest way for me to explain the wbc part. Your platelets are for clotting so they are okay.
Avatar m tn Were there any remarks on the complete blood count that stated you had any abnormal cells? If so then maybe the doctor can explain this to you.
Avatar f tn You should get your stool examined for occult or hidden blood to detect this blood loss. Also you need to get a pheripheral blood smear done to know the RBC count, structure and whether there is cytopenia (general decrease in cell count). The renal function and liver function needs to be checked, and electrophoresis of hemoglobin done to know whether there is thalasemia trait or sickle cell anemia. You need to see if there is vitamin B12 deficiency.
Avatar n tn Four weeks later I had to have another 2 units of blood. Unfortunately, my count only increased by .2, from 7.5 to 7.7, still under the safe limit, so my doctor gave me a Procrit shot. He said that the transfusions may not help in the future and I may have to have a Procrit injection each week. Althought my count only went up slightly, I did feel better than before I had the transfusion.

1367276 tn?1278801812 I was just started on insulin 3 days ago. The doctor had me take 5 units of novolog 3 times a day with 1 unit for every 50 points above 150, and then I take 15 units of Lantus at bedtime. For the past 3 days I have been checking my levels 6 to 7 times a day and they have been between 167 and 297 and I can't seem to get them below. What can I do without taking more insulin?
