Avatar m tn Hi, I'm 62, was diagnosed bi-polar in 1986 and put on Lithium but not monitored properly so came off it after being sacked. Started again in 1990 and was also put on Citalopram at that time. Have been on both ever since and have been up and down like a yoyo, In 199I 8 I was diagnosed HIV positive, fired again. Put on meds, got lypodysrophy but thatit's a bit better now. Recently left husband, got fired (again), moved country so was pretty shattered and scattered, and angry.

Avatar f tn I gained about 30 lbs on Citalopram. I work out and eat healthy. I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!

Avatar n tn Combining Alprax and Citalopram can cause central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Please discuss with your doctor for alternate medications. In the meantime, I would strongly caution you not to drive or operate heavy machinery while on these medications as you might injure yourself or others. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
15256956 tn?1439425231 Let me get this straight. You have a psychiatrist who took you off an antidepressant in just one week? And isn't dealing with the withdrawal problem? The minimum taper should have been six weeks from my experience. You also should research Buspar. See if you think it actually works much of the time. And if your anxiety is related to the heart problem, the beta blocker should theoretically at least have solved that problem.

Avatar n tn ve been noticing some severe short term memory loss problems. Im extremely worried and concerened about my well being, Im not sure what to do. Is this normal? Is it permanent? Should I switch medications? Also an alternate question regarding Celexa; Is it completely out of the question to take Celexa during your pregnancy?
Avatar m tn In appropriate neurochemical, functional, and behavioural non-clinical experiments, escitalopram shows greater efficacy and faster onset of action than comparable doses of citalopram. The lower efficacy of citalopram in these studies is apparently due to the inhibition of the effect of the S-enantiomer by the R-enantiomer, possibly via an allosteric interaction with the serotonin transporter.

1084115 tn?1385228589 My husband was diagnosed with Hep C in 2007 and began a treatment right away. He felt angry, sad, hopeless, and anxious about his diagnosis. His doctor put him on an AD right away, before starting treatment, and then increased it during his treatment since the interferon caused depression to increase. The AD has changed a couple of times and has been increased here and there through his various therapies, but I think that it has helped him a lot.
Avatar f tn Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?
1066610 tn?1255561474 I too pull out eyebrows, pubes, and head hair. My first memory of this is when I was 12 and I'd plucked the whole of one eyebrow and my mum had to draw it back on for me. I'm 37 and still do it but less frequently so I don't see it as too much of a problem as long as I don't concentrate to long on one part. I also pick my skin but in more hidden places. Taking medication such as SSRIs eg.
