Cipro kidney damage

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro kidney damage

cipro

Avatar f tn Hi, I have problems with UTI and kidney infections on a regular basis. I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives. From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.
1778927 tn?1381878747 All tests report a good healthy functioning kidney...all tests were perfect except the left missing kidney...has anyone had similar expeience? Is it muscular? Nerve damage? I had an accident in 2002 in which I fractured my 2nd and 3rd lumbar vertabrae...does it take 10 years for never damage to appear? I am just very concerned and hoping someone has had a similar experience...Thank you.
798555 tn?1292787551 Yes, I have taken Cipro this past year more than any person should, but it was for documented --potentially life threatening -- UTI or kidney stone related infections including hydronephrosis. I stay away from any of the fluro's at all cost and beg for an alternative antibiotic because of the warning above. But some of my infections have been so serious there's the risk/benefit.
738333 tn?1232967475 It is important that you treat recurrent UTIs to prevent further damage to your kidneys. Drinking plenty of water and avoid resisting the urge to urinate may also help. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn you can end up with sever liver damage.
1840891 tn?1431547793 Kidney infections may require several weeks of antibiotic treatment. Kidney infections in adults rarely lead to kidney damage or kidney failure unless they go untreated or are associated with urinary tract obstruction. Bladder infections are generally self-limiting, but antibiotic treatment significantly shortens the duration of symptoms. People usually feel better within a day or two of treatment. Symptoms of kidney and prostate infections last longer.
1442701 tn?1286383987 I thought that maybe I had pulled a muscle in my back even though I didn't even throw the ball that many to times since my lower left side of my back had been hurting. Felt like labor pains Monday night it hurt so bad. On Cipro now. I just wondered if anyone else has unexpected kidney infections too.
Avatar f tn You could have an obstruction or an infection in the kidney. I was quite close to dying from kidney failure when I was given the wrong antibiotics to take. This is nothing to mess around with. Please go to the ER, see a urologist, GP or urgent care.
Avatar m tn I am 29 and I took cipro about 8 months ago for a kidney infection and after I took it for a few days I developed pain, tingling and crawly feelings on my back. I didn't realize that it could be from the cipro. I finished the prescription and went on to develop severe back pain between my shoulder blades and tingling skin in my arms and legs. I felt like my arms and legs had sunburn and it was hard to wear clothes sometimes. I went to a neurologist and a rhumey.
Avatar n tn (I was given a course of cipro without my Naturopathic Doc doing a urinalysis because I was going out of town the day after my symptoms began). I took the cipro (it was a short dose- 3 days, taken 2 times per day), and started to feel better. Then about a week later symptoms came back, tried to treat it naturally and then decided to try the cipro again. After this something still didn't feel right and I suggested a kidney infection as I had started having some back pain.
Avatar f tn he gave me cipro said i had blatter in this was on Monday. it was for 3 days 500 mg 2 times day. by Thur it was gone Today i get up feels liek same thing. Avatar n tn Certain collagen-rich areas of the body (such as tendons) have been well documented as being susceptible to damage by Cipro. The vitreous of the eye is largely composed of collagen fibrals which are likely as susceptible to attack by Cipro as tendons. The association between Cipro and eye damage has not been established definitively as yet. However, you should report your case to Dr. Frederick Fraunfelder at the Eye Drug Registry. The registry's email is ***@****.
443434 tn?1255891233 Another significant concern with aminoglycoside antibiotics is nephrotoxicity11 (kidney damage). Renal damage is related to the accumulation of high concentrations of aminoglycoside antibiotic in the renal cortex.
422425 tn?1307992990 This disease is also caused by other diseases and toxins that damage the kidney. The most serious long term effect is decreased kidney function or kidney failure. The function of the kidneys will return after the harmful drug is not taken anymore, or when the underlying disease is cured by treatment. Avatar n tn Burning pain and bleeding during urination is due to infection, if not treated appropriately can lead to damage to the kidney. I would suggest that you get a urine analysis with culture done, and take the course of antibiotics depending upon the report. The other causes for bleeding in urine could be renal stones, glomerulonephritis, urethral rupture etc. But I, think it is more of infectious component playing the role in your case. Consult a urologist for further assistance. Best.
5463760 tn?1368383965 I have urinary retention for two weeks now, tomorrow I may have full diagnoses, weather its due to infection or blockage, i had it for 2 weeks now, when i want to urinate i stand for a while then it comes and not always fluently, i have to drink tons of water to urinate more than once, i just want to know what test to do to know if the kidney is full of fluids?? and how to evaluate its condition other than the creatinine level, mine is 1.
Avatar f tn ve been told is that they think it may be caused due to damage one of my kidneys sustained when I had a horrendous kidney infection at the age of 15. I'm so tired of being tired and in pain all the time. Any advice?
Avatar m tn Can feel better in 2-3 weeks with meds (cipro with and without diflucan) or without meds, but ejaculating during this makes it last longer (had sex and masturbated twice during current "flare", going on 7 weeks of length). Occasional minor discomfort after urinating, especially when it is more concentrated. No discharge or itching. Dull ache and occasional sharper pain when touched around the opening, around the backside of head, and sometimes a bit down the shaft.

Avatar f tn Causes can be divided according to the affected organ and they are Kidney conditions (infection, pyelonephritis, kidney stones, polycystic kidney disease), Bladder conditions (cystitis, bladder polyp, bladder tumor), Urethral conditions (Sexually transmitted diseases, urethral injury, vaginal inflammation), and certain bleeding disorders. It can be due to chronic UTI or vaginitis also. I would suggest that you consult your Doctor so further investigation can be done.
Avatar f tn they never said what i have , put me on cipro. does anyone no what causes all this stuff in urine? got me worried.
Avatar f tn Even though I took all of these meds, can it be that I still have a UTI , kidney infection or kidney disease? I am in the process of getting a renal and pelvic sonogram but it is a long time from now because of the holidays. Please help! Pain is unbearable.
Avatar m tn Hello, For ruling out any kidney infections you should get kidney function tests and an ultrasound kidneys done. You should consult a physician or a nephrologist and get it ruled out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
