Hi, I have problems with UTI and kidney infections on a regular basis. I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives. From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.

All tests report a good healthy functioning kidney...all tests were perfect except the left missing kidney...has anyone had similar expeience? Is it muscular? Nerve damage? I had an accident in 2002 in which I fractured my 2nd and 3rd lumbar vertabrae...does it take 10 years for never damage to appear? I am just very concerned and hoping someone has had a similar experience...Thank you.

Yes, I have taken Cipro this past year more than any person should, but it was for documented --potentially life threatening -- UTI or kidney stone related infections including hydronephrosis. I stay away from any of the fluro's at all cost and beg for an alternative antibiotic because of the warning above. But some of my infections have been so serious there's the risk/benefit.

It is important that you treat recurrent UTIs to prevent further damage to your kidneys. Drinking plenty of water and avoid resisting the urge to urinate may also help. Take care and regards.

I would suggest that you get a urine analysis with culture done, and take the course of antibiotics depending upon the report. Even though I took all of these meds, can it be that I still have a UTI , kidney infection or kidney disease? I am in the process of getting a renal and pelvic sonogram but it is a long time from now because of the holidays. Please help! Pain is unbearable.
