Im traveling in mexico and got pretty sick (my best guess is it was 'Travelers Diarrhea' or maybe food poisioning) I went to the pharmacy and got 500mg Cipro pills. I took one and got a horrible headache and vomitted alot. My symptoms seem to be gone however would it be a bad idea to stop taking the Cipro? I know people say you should always finish a course of antibiotics but in this case I dont know if I need them.
I got Giardia (intestinal parasite) from river water and was prescribed first Cipro for "travelers diarrhea" and when that didn't work I was prescribed Metronidazole for Giardia. I took Cipro for 5 days then Metronidazole for 10. During the course of Metro I started having chest pain. I dismissed them because I was having muscle pains in virtually all my muscles off an on. I became more concerned after I began waking up with my chest vibrating like a cell phone!

You may need to take a probiotic that specifically targets the issue of travelers diarrhea. When you don't have enough good bacteria in your gut, it increases the likelihood of diarrhea.
Make sure you get one for travelers diarrhea otherwise, most probiotics tend to have the opposite effect at moderate doses which would make it worse. Imodium ad also works wonders, it was created by taking properties of opiates such as codeine without the painkilling effects.

is it safe to take 125 mg of cipro each day for 6 months I was prescribed this for a UTI that keeps coming back. I went to the emergency room for diarrhea and vomitting. They gave me ciprofloxacin for an antibiotic and I had never taken it before. When I took the 3rd dose, I had the worst diarrhea ever so I decided to stop the antibiotics. Subsequently, I took 2 tablets of ultracarbon and rested. I'm @ 8 mos post j-pouch takedown and am still having problems with nausea, diarrhea, cramps etc.. I ,m taking lomotil and metamucil and still go 16x's /day. I had a recent bout with pouchitis and took Cipro and Flagyl (and yogurt) . The Cipro made me feel normal again and reduced frequency to 5-7 x's a day- I felt good! When I came off the Cipro the high frequency diarrhea problem returned. I go every 6 hrs at about 4 trips per.
