Im traveling in mexico and got pretty sick (my best guess is it was 'Travelers Diarrhea' or maybe food poisioning) I went to the pharmacy and got 500mg Cipro pills. I took one and got a horrible headache and vomitted alot. My symptoms seem to be gone however would it be a bad idea to stop taking the Cipro? I know people say you should always finish a course of antibiotics but in this case I dont know if I need them.
I got Giardia (intestinal parasite) from river water and was prescribed first Cipro for "travelers diarrhea" and when that didn't work I was prescribed Metronidazole for Giardia. I took Cipro for 5 days then Metronidazole for 10. During the course of Metro I started having chest pain. I dismissed them because I was having muscle pains in virtually all my muscles off an on. I became more concerned after I began waking up with my chest vibrating like a cell phone!
My fiance had stomache/bowel pain this morning. The pain is gone but he is having black diarrhea frequently today. He does drink everyday, but, I don't know if that is some how related. We also recently moved from Virginia to Chicago so I don't know if it's travelers diarrhea. He doesn't have medical insurance. What should he do?
Thank you for responding to my question. It has been 12 days since I had root canal on #14. Took Cipro for 7 days. I'm still feeling lpain/discomfort on #14 and try not to chew on that side of mouth. How long does it for root canal to heal? Can and do root canal fail? What are symptoms of failed root canal. At the time of root canal Endodonist put temporary filled on crown. I have appoint with regular dentist for permanent filling in a week.
Perhaps have him see an infectious disease specialist - he may have picked up something unusual from Peru.
You may need to take a probiotic that specifically targets the issue of travelers diarrhea. When you don't have enough good bacteria in your gut, it increases the likelihood of diarrhea.
Make sure you get one for travelers diarrhea otherwise, most probiotics tend to have the opposite effect at moderate doses which would make it worse. Imodium ad also works wonders, it was created by taking properties of opiates such as codeine without the painkilling effects.

Was recently hospitalized for crohn's flare for 4 days. Given cipro and flagyl via IV and steroid shots via IV. A week later home taking cipro and prednizone orally. Many side effects? Feel worse now than before?

stayed 3 days and they did cat scan(radiation) and had me on flagyl and cipro very strong broad spectrum drugs. ever since then i have occasional gut discomfort and diarrhea. lately i seem to have symptoms more often. i went to a gastroenterologist and he suggest limitiing alcohol consumption.. i stopped drinking my beer and drank tons of milk hoping to soothe my stomach..now im worse than ever, bloating, gas, bubbling , diarrhea, stomach pain.
After about 3 days on Cipro I had a bad sore throat and diarrhea, sore throat went away in 2-3 days and my doctor attributed diarrhea to Cipro. I continued Cipro for 2 weeks and the diarrhea improved after I stopped cipro. After about 15 days of stopping cipro (7 weeks from likely exposure), I started getting skin rash. This skin rash is slightly itchy in small patches over shoulders, trunk, arms and are small patches. They disappear in few hours and may reappear elsewhere.
The MD prescribed Cipro for 10 days, and my diarrhea worsened. After I finished Cipro, the diarrhea continued. Finally I was sent for a CT Scan with contrast on my abdomen and pelvic area. MD said everything looked good except for some small pockets(diverticuli) which I already knew I had. He referred me to a GI doctor but I can't get in for 3 weeks. He gave me a prescription for lomotil, which helps with Diarrhea, but only if I take 2 ea. 4 times daily.
Three days after returning, I developed diarrhea and a fever of around 100 F. The following day, I also added a stiff neck and headaches, especially if I moved my head too quickly. I went to see my PCP the next day and started Flagyl and Cipro. That night, I was very restless and had a jaw pain in my lower jaw and a tense feeling in my upper chest. The symptoms returned, but much more severe the next day and I went to the ER.

After experiencing what was likely a stomach flu from some food, I took some cipro to help stop the slight fever, vomiting and 30+ very liquify movements that cam on over the course of 24 hours. I have also noticed mucus in my stool which was transparent. I feel a pressure of pooping generally after taking meals, sometimes feels like diarrhea. unformed stool has gone common to me. I take Montelukast LC regularly because i have problem of sneezing too much. and one more thing sometime i felt my butt from anal area i vibrating and tingling quite often.
I'm @ 8 mos post j-pouch takedown and am still having problems with nausea, diarrhea, cramps etc.. I ,m taking lomotil and metamucil and still go 16x's /day. I had a recent bout with pouchitis and took Cipro and Flagyl (and yogurt) . The Cipro made me feel normal again and reduced frequency to 5-7 x's a day- I felt good! When I came off the Cipro the high frequency diarrhea problem returned. I go every 6 hrs at about 4 trips per.
