Hmm, I just checked my approved otc medication list from my ObGyn and they have Robitussin DM as ok. But that doesn't surprise me since with my first pregnancy I switched docs mid-way and they both had completely different lists of ok medications. I would call to make sure, but like I said the DM is approved on my list.

So my question really is, anybody know of a childrens medicine that i can give an 18 month old for cold symptoms, all the medicine i have found are for the ages of atleast 2 and up, i mean he weighs 30 pounds but none of the medicine otc say i can give it to a kid younger then 2. Also what can i take? I know they say Tylenol is safe during pregnancy but i have a really sensitive stomach and acetaminophen always upsets my stomach really bad. I have really bad chest congestion and coughing.

There are otc medicines u are aloud to take. Like mucinex dm and tylenol sinus and cold. Call ur ob dr and ask them for a complete list. They will tell u.

However, they were adamant that I make sure I get the kind we have to sign for and not the OTC one. I was wondering why because I know the one we sign for has the stuff that people use to make meth but the OTC stuff does not. So what is the difference?

I got sick cold wise alot. call your doctor and ask what otc meds you can take. Mine told me i could take suddefed and mucinex dm.

We all have different chemistry and therefore different responses to medicaitons but I think overall the OTC cough remedies are mostly safe. The only caviat is that the active indredient for cough suppression is dextromethorphan (DXM or DM on labels) and some people abuse it since it can act as a dissociative hallucinogen similar to ketamine or PCP but only in very high doses.

U can take Robatussin DM. I had a bad cold that eventually turned into a respiratory infection n got prescribed that with antibotics. Its OTC so no prescription needed n it really helps.

There are several things that can mimic DM, and the thing that makes me think that it might not BE DM is that DM usually comes along gradually and not overnight, as you have described. Before a positive DM diagnosis can be made it is advisable to test for thyroid function.

The best way to tell is to look up any otc drug you want to take or call its 800 number, and to ask about contra-indications during pregnancy. Almost nothing for a cold can be taken, it's a shame when you have a sore throat and are sneezing.
