Cat allergies to fleas

Common Questions and Answers about Cat allergies to fleas

cat-allergies

Avatar n tn I don't know what the discharge is or what it means. I had to try a few different kinds of cat foods before I found one that my cat likes that she isn't allergic to. My cat is allergic to grains.
Avatar f tn It started about a year ago. I took her to the vet and the vet tried to tell me it was fleas. She is an indoor cat so she has no fleas. The vet treated her for fleas anyway and it didn't work. She shave her neck to see the scabs before she said it was fleas. since the flea treatment didn't work I put antibacterial ointment on her boo boo's and rubbed her whole body down with Skin so Soft bath oil from Avon and the licking and scratchin ceased, and her hair started growing back.
Avatar f tn I use indorex flea spray in my home every 10month (it lasts 12month) and my cats are indoor cats. I read on here about allergies to fleas but she has had fleas before (when we got her) and she did not have a reaction then. She's been completely clean for over a year now so I'm pretty sure it's not fleas. I've also seen ringworm on a cat and it's not this either. I'm worried about her as she has been casting A LOT lately and wonder if it could be a skin condition.....
Avatar f tn I agree with Savas, but would like to add the possibility of food allergies. How long has your kitty had skin problems? And, do all of your kitties have the same problems? And, last but not least, have you switched food and what is their diet?
Avatar n tn If your cat is already on a good flea control such as Advantage or Revolution, then parasites are less likely. Options to treat allergies are to continue to treat symptoms with medications (okay if symptoms only occur occasionally and your cat only needs 1-2 steroid injections per year), or to identify and treat the underlying cause.
Avatar f tn Thirdly, if you have fleas outside, and your cat goes in and out, then you have fleas in your house. If you cat is allergic to fleas and is getting sores from flea bites, then she has fleas and is bringing them into the house. If she doesn't have fleas, then the sores are not from flea bites and are most likely from the flea treatments. Either way the solution is to get rid of the fleas in your house, keep you cat indoors, and stop using flea treatments on her.
Avatar n tn A couple of weeks ago, I noticed my cat to have several hairballs lined up on both sides in front of his front legs. Now in the spots where they were, he is bald. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Could be nothing more than an allergic reaction to fleas. Take a comb and comb your cat over a white sheet or towel. If you see little brown dots and when you squish them they may turn a muddy red, you will know the cat has fleas. Only vet can tell you definitively what the problem is. He may have to take a skin scrapping. Food allergies usually manifest around the face and ears. Flea allergies will appear at the hind end where they seek warmth. Either way sounds like kitty is miserable.
Avatar n tn Otodectes, Cheyletiella, Scabies, etc, ringworm and other fungal infections, allergies (allergies to food can occur anytime in the life of a cat), bacterial skin infections, endocrine disorders and more. Ringworm, and some mites can be transmitted to people. Frontline does not treat mites. The topical: "Revolution" is for fleas, ticks, ear mites, and scabies, so it might be a good idea to switch to Revolution for a couple of months.
1414187 tn?1283269643 a lot of cats are allergic to beef.also flea allergies, use a flea comb to see if there are any fleas first, regular combs brushes wont work.some cats though they love it are allergic to wet food.wash your cat with dawn soap regularly (once month or two months)this will help this problem.some cat shampoos actually have an ingredient that is very toxic to cats,i dont know why they sell it.i dont recomend steroid shot, hydroxyzene is a little better but try to avoid medications.
Avatar f tn if it is not related to fleas then skin scrapings and biopsies will hep determine if it is a mite issue (scabies), autoimmune disorder, food allergy, or something less common. Good luck. Dr. Cliff www.pettalk360.
Avatar f tn no this sure isn't normal...usually when there is a loss of fur or 'ripping' out its always due to allergies...the allergies can be inhaled, ingested or environmental. I am assuming the food and litter has remained unchanged. that makes me think its either something in the house your kitty is reacting too....was there a product used to clean the carpets..for instance. Or fleas? flea allergy can also cause this to happen. copy the link below for more info and photos..
1178508 tn?1266793916 Once the allergic reaction occurs, continued licking and secondary infection can then perpetuate skin inflammation even after all the fleas have been killed, and so I recommend taking your cat to your veterinarian for examination and medications to treat secondary infection and reduce itching/licking. If his symptoms persist or recur, then other possible allergic skin diseases such as food allergy or pollen/dust allergies may be the cause.
770551 tn?1305578901 You need to wash the bedding, not just put it in the dryer. Even on high, the bedding isn't going to get hot enough to kill fleas. If anything the warmth will stimulate reproduction. As was said, you need to drown them and you can't do that in the dryer.
Avatar m tn 3) Maybe Anemic - eating cat litter and chewing at skin/fur all the time. Does anyone know what I can do to help her besides move her to a better enviroment, treat for fleas and change the food and litter back to what it was before the problems arised?

Avatar m tn Hello ! I recently started to feed a stray cat that comes often to my door. She looks like a young femal cat and also pregnant. She is very nice and has a lot of affection. But I'm worried to get her to come Inside yet because I noticed that she had some kinda bald spots a bit on her back ( starting from the middle to the bottom ) some have like only one really small red pimple. I think it might be fleas ? She maybe scratched too much or is stressed ?
Avatar m tn About 2 months ago we found out our dog had fleas we counted up to 4 over the course of 3 days so we immediately gave him a flea bath (probably should have steered clear) and followed up by buying them frontline plus. They seem to be flealess since. Meaning I check often and haven't seen any flea dirt or actual fleas on either of them. The problem im having now is they both seem to be scratching around their face area. Not a whole lot but maybe 4-5 times a day when im home with them.
Avatar f tn (like fleas) can cause allergies. Not saying your cat has fleas....just saying you might want to double check :) Good Luck.
