Avatar n tn About 12yrs ago my husband who had been picture of health started having such problems. Had x-rays, colonoscopy, ultrasound, etc & was told it was IBS. Lots of gurgling noises in abdomen, nausea, feeling full, couldn't eat, lost weight, diarrhea & complexion color changed. Just looked awful & felt worse. Went on for about 1yr or more w/numerous dr appts & emergency room trips until the night he vomited what wouldn't go thru his intestines.
268911 tn?1213744781 The doc is not being entirely honest. All of the PPIs carry side-effects and many of them can be directly attributed to the fact that with the lowering of acid in the stomach a person ends up with less true 'digestion' of their food in the stomach. Because of this, a lot of food passed 'unchanged' iinto the small intestine. Since the enzymes in the small intestine do not 'recognize' what's coming through, further digestion is not possible.
Avatar n tn Normally, the stomach contracts to move food down into the small intestine for digestion. The vagus nerve controls these contractions. Gastroparesis may occur when the vagus nerve is damaged and the muscles of the stomach and intestines do not work normally. Food then moves slowly or stops moving through the digestive tract. DO U have ailments that r chronic like Diabetes or other auto immune diseases?
Avatar f tn One of the newly researched reasons is a bacterial growth in the lower end of the small intestine, which can produce gas. This gas physically slows down the emptying of the bowel, leading to constipation. It is thought that once you get rid of the offending bug, it can be reversed.
Avatar m tn Fatty protein substances are much harder to break down because of the lack of water composition. Digestion starts in the stomach with hydrochloric acid and pepsin. Once in the the Small intestine Proteolytic enzymes released from the Pancreas break protein down into smaller peptide chains and amino acids. Then these amino acids and smaller peptide chains are further broken down by aminopeptidases in epithelial cells lining the small intestine.
Avatar m tn that allows for measured amounts of contents to move from the end of the small intestine into the large intestine. You may find that you have more frequent bowel movements or fecal material passage into and through the large intestine. It it sometimes referred to as 'dumping' issues.
Avatar f tn If fats are not absorbed, you have PALE, foamy, sticky, foul smelling stool. This is the case? If yes, than the problem is LACK of the bile (maybe a stone stuck in the duct which delivers bile from the liver into the intestine), or from pancreatic disease (lack of pancreatic enzyme lipase, which is needed for digestion of fats).
Avatar f tn Maroon stools, which is caused by partial digestion of the blood in the intestine often arises from the small intestine (jejunum, ileum) and proximal colon, but the color also depends in part on how rapidly the blood travels through the intestines. Intestinal infection or irritable bowel syndrome or diverticulitis and various other things can cause this. So, again, please see your doctor and let us know how you are doing. https://www.medicinenet.com/stool_color_changes/article.
Avatar n tn Basically we will be getting these cramps and back pain as our uterus is getting bigger it kind of pushes everything back and smooshes your tummy small and large intestine. This is what will slow down the digestion of your food also making you feel more bloated and uncomfy. But don't worry its a good thing!! This makes your body slow down the process of breaking down your food.
Avatar f tn During normal digestion, the inactivated pancreatic enzymes move through ducts in your pancreas and travel to the small intestine, where the enzymes become activated and help with digestion. In pancreatitis, the enzymes become activated while still in the pancreas. This causes the enzymes to irritate the cells of your pancreas, causing inflammation and the signs and symptoms associated with pancreatitis.
Business woman1 But one has to rule out the other possibilities like IBS {irritable bowel syndrome, bacterial overgrowth of the small intestine, Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative Colitis, carbohydrate {sugar} malabsorption, hyperthyroidism, Addison’s disease or may be due to laxative abuse. Take adequate amount of fluids and oral rehydration solution to prevent dehydration. Maintain a good hygiene and drink clean preferably boiled water.
Avatar m tn I've had a hernia located above my belly-button for about ten years, presumably from a stomach ulcer, that feels like my intestines, but hopefully not a tapeworm. Is there any way to tell which? I've only had any pain from it, which caused me to be bedridder for about three days, when I made a large salid meal one day of nothing but (uncooked) onions, cucumbers and carrots. I suspect the onions were the main source of the pain.
Avatar m tn hi everybody this question may not belong to here but i didnt find the right place so i had problems in digestion and any food make great amount of gases and my colon i think it is not stable and i feel my intestine moving in different directions and making noise and sound and in the morning i always feel that my stomatch is not well like i will vomit if i eat any normal food but the great problem is that these great amount of gases i cant prevent them for long time so they are moving quickly f
Avatar f tn #WHAT AMAZES ME IS THEY ARE HIDDEN IN THE SMALL INTESTINE BUT NOT THE BIG INTESTINE.......THEY HAVE PENETRATED TISSUE THERES NO WAY TO FLASH THEM OUT JUST LIKE THAT.
Avatar n tn Now, the colon is the large intestine, it comes straight up from the lower right small intestine, takes a turn and crosses the belly, and then turns again and goes straight down to where waste goes out.
Avatar m tn Make sure that the feeding tube is in the right position, ie the stomach, not the lung (sometimes this happens). He may require a permanent feeding tube. Digestion is a big problem in heart failure. The stomach and the intestine get swollen with fluid thereby preventing nutrient absorption. This leads to nausea, vomiting, poor digestion and weight loss.
Avatar f tn If there is a stone it may block the bile from entering the duodenum which is the first part of the small intestine. If there is a blockage, or if there is a "gall bladder attack" it could cause the acids to remain in the stomach and not move through the digestive process. Excess acid in the stomach can promote the ulcer. It would be very typical for your doctor to perform a gall bladder test to rule out stones or an attack. Just my thoughts...
Avatar f tn What are my options other than full surgery? Should I be concerned about the Small Intestine, too? If I do have the surgery, what are the chances that I'll get UC in the next section? Thank you for your help.
Avatar f tn Hello, The cause of your discolored or pale skin is anemia. Vitamin D deficiency can be caused by conditions that result in little exposure to sunlight. These conditions include: living in northern countries; having dark skin; being elderly or an infant, and having little chance to go outside; and covering one's face and body.
Avatar n tn Questran binds with the bile salts and slows down their move into the large intestine, where they actually act as a laxitive. Imodium slows the contraction of the small intestine so food doesn't go thru you so quickly. Ask your doctor about these issues....
Avatar n tn I have heard of a large loop of the bowel getting stuck in a similar type hole in the large diaphram muscles, higher up than the tummy, and in a hole larger than a hernia, which is very unusual, but digestion got stuck in the choked-off intestine there and they had to operate on that person. I think that hole came from a car wreck.
Avatar f tn Enzymes needed to digest carbohydrates decrease in adulthood due to celiac disease and tropical sprue (which affect absorption in the intestine) or intestinal infections and injuries. This is diagnosed using oral tolerance tests. With proper management this can be taken care of. Sinus symptoms may or may not be related to carbohydrates. It could be due to crabs you mentioned. Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is anything else.
308787 tn?1201681348 m so sorry for your pain and I understand how you feel when talking about pain in the upper right area of the abdomen. You mentioned you suffer from anxiety quite bad. The only thing I can tell you is that it may be caused from stress. I had all the test also and came back normal except for an irritated duodenum(very end of stomach and beginning of the small intestine). As your doctor to to check to make sure also that you don't have a hernia.
Avatar f tn t empty into the large intestine. The order is stomach, small intestine (also called small bowel), and then large intestine (also called colon, large bowel). It is pretty normal to have feelings throughout your GI tract during digestion. Have you talked to your GI doctor about this?
Avatar n tn My hypothesis around it relates to excessive fat consumption impairing the efficacy of bile acids in the small intestine resulting in a propensity for incomplete digestion and too much microbial fermentation. Whatever the mechanism, I imagine ox bile supplementation in combination with a low fat diet should be of therapeutic benefit. Looking forward to hearing about your experience!
