Avatar n tn “Carbohydrate intolerance is the inability of the body to completely process the nutrient carbohydrate (a classification that includes sugars and starches) into a source of energy for the body, usually because of the deficiency of an enzyme needed for digestion. Lactose intolerance, the inability to digest the sugar found in milk, is widespread and affects up to 70% of the world's adult population.
Avatar m tn Since digestive enzymes were helping you earlier, you definitely have some enzyme deficiency related to carbohydrate metabolism. Diarrhea is the commonest and significant presentation. Treatment is restricting carbohydrate diet. You can consult a nutrition specialist to find which carbohydrates you can take and which you should eliminate. Take care!
559187 tn?1330782856 Hi, Pompe’s disease is characterized by a genetic (inherited) deficiency of an enzyme called acid alpha glucosidase. This enzyme helps the body break down glycogen, a complex carbohydrate that is converted to glucose for energy. Without the enzyme, glycogen builds up in the heart and other muscles, causing extensive damage.
Avatar m tn Take a full spectrum digestive enzyme from the health food store with each meal to ease digestion. Drink a bit of aloe juice or wheatgrass juice everyday to help eliminate gas and to heal your GI tract. Take activated charcoal capsules from the health food store when reflux threatens. It absorbs acid. Read up on these things and you will see how they can benefit you. My husband swears by them. Be persistent and don't give up ! You can heal yourself.
Avatar n tn the thing that helped me the most was something called the specific carbohydrate diet, which is quite strict. i was on it for 5 months -- big improvement in digestion. however, i lost too much weight (i'm quite thin) and it was very incovenient for me. if you can commmit yourself to it, i would highly recommend it. also, water fasting has helped me in the past temporarily. i've done it from one day to about 4 days.
Avatar f tn I remember the first time I took a digestive enzyme I felt better. My amalayse enzyme is also elevated slightly. High cholesterol can cause all of the problems that I have. So can pancreatitis. Which is inflammation. I will be having a EUS next month. My doctor will do this test to get a visual look at my pancreas. I read that metroznadole can be used to treat pancreatitis if it is an infection.
3101013 tn?1433454105 Any food types just sit in my stomach for hours, and yes, I have used enzyme formula pills for digestion, but I have to use powerful immunity aides too. I would like to find the right digestion formula, and I am trying some, to help my body operate better for me. As I said, I have a regimen (little added magnesium) that keeps bowel flowing once daily--not loose however), but with some digestion aides, then my bowel will empty twice a day, and lower back just about goes out without me!

I doubt many people would recommend diving right in at the highest potency. But the fact of the matter is, these digestive enzymes WORKED. I take 1-1.5 pills before meals where a lot of roughage/ fiber is to be consumed, and guess what? No more bloating. No more gas. Digestion much, much better.
Avatar n tn It's not risky, but don't know how it would control diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes is a dietary disease, so it's possible it's beneficial effect on some people's digestion might be in play here, as well as its bitter qualities, but others don't do well on it -- it depends on the acid/alkaline state of a particular person's digestive system. Good for those who need it, maybe not so much if you don't.
Avatar n tn I believe the reason is because carbohydrate malabsorption feeds small intestinal bacterial overgrowth - producing gas that drives acid reflux. I have listed nine bullet points of evidence withh numerous references for my theory in an article on GERD and asthma at DigestiveHealthInstitute.org. Norm Robillard, Ph.D.
Avatar f tn I know stomach issues play a big role in my extra beats so I am not surprised your enzyme pills had an affect. So glad you found a direct link and were able to clear them up. Take care.
Avatar m tn H Pylori thrives in low stomach acid and lowers stomach acid further. Low levels of stomach acid (stomach acid stimulates the pancreas to release enzymes to help with digestion just to add) can also cause malabsorption and floating stools. There are many possible symptoms from not enough stomach acid. My mother takes betaine HCL with pepsin supplements to increase stomach acid and digestive enzyme supplements to help with digestion. I'll send you a few article with more info.
Avatar f tn What foods do you eat I'd leave off onion ,Brussels sprouts , basically hi carbs as they produce flatulence eat two to four slices of bread daily it should help:-)
Avatar f tn And i found myself running to the bathroom like it was an emergency. I never found any cuase. The gall bladder produces an enzyme that aids in digestion. The only thing that helped at all was eating smaller meals and absolutely not eating any pork.
Avatar m tn I have found that many people have become intolerant to breakfast cereals, though I don't know just why. If it's a problem with carbohydrate digestion, a digestive enzyme blend with amylase should end the problem. It might also be caused by a deficiency of stomach acid, and the combination of milk protein and carbohydrates. Oh well, I'm still workin' on this.
Avatar m tn Feverish w/o fever, extreme fatigue, migratory muscular/joint pain as if my different body parts are sore, loss of appetite with nausea and digestion problems which followed with abdominal pain, and light dry cough and chills. This sickness continued for complete 2 weeks after July 25th (initial start) 3. I gave blood for PCR by DNA HIV test on July 30th (after 19 days ) with ABS (antibody test) which came negative. 4.
Avatar f tn The bloating stopped but the loud flatulence and being gassy is still there. I tried fiber supplements, and laxatives and digestion enzyme. But nothing worked. My stomach makes weird noises and then I pass loud gas. I don't know what to do. I'm very embarrassed.
Avatar n tn If by insufficient pancreas you are referring to insufficient pancreatic enzyme production, you may want to speak with your doctor about supplementation with pancreatic enzymes which will often lead to improved digestion, especially of fats. However, if your current symptoms are due to pancreatitis, your doc will probably suggest you start off with a liquid diet and then slowly transition to more solid food over time.
Avatar n tn The fats combined with the carbs delay the digestion time. It is good to know this so you can learn to adjust. I find it enough of a problem that I actually rarely eat pizza. The only way to perfect the control would be to do a blood test in the middle of the night and to then adjust with extra insulin. French fries are the other fat-laden carbohydrate that I notice digests equally slowly.
Avatar f tn I have been formally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and possible Carbohydrate Intolerance. My issue is when I eat a load of carbs, it hits up to 3 days later and I can't hardly get out of bed and am weak most of the day. Everything I read about Carb Intolerance says that fatigue usually hits within the first few hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Carb crash, a day or days after the carbs are eaten?
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am a 31 year old female recently diagnosed with Dissacharidase Deficiency, otherwise known as carbohydrate malabsorption. According to my gastro, a bad viral infection I acquired almost 18 months ago knocked out only my lactase enzymes, but also the enzymes neccessary to break down sugars, most carbs and all starches. I also became seriously sensitive to fructose, the sugar found in fruit.
