ve had to do this many times, and they say that you can initally cut the dosage in half for about a week and a half, then cut it in tiny amounts (maybe 1/4 the amount, for about a week, and so on and so on). At the end, when you are down to a small amount, just enough so your system knows the meds are still in there, you can go to every other night. But, I wouldn't do this until I was down to .5 or less milligrams. After that, you should just be able to stop.

Thank you, I actually do have 5mg and I cut those in half already! So i am on the lowest dose right now. My dr knew about my habit last year and told me that ambien during pregnancy was ok as long as i was not taking a lot. But i have a new dr this year and I am going to have to tell them.

The next week, I replaced the Ambien with Melatonin 1.5mg and cut the Xanax in half. Honestly, I am still not sleeping 8hrs, but it is better (I am on day 13). Since my sleep has started to level off at about 5hrs/night, I am going to go to 1/4 Xanax and then d/c it in a week. I really could not tell any difference in my w/d process by adjusting the other meds....I just didn't sleep and it was horrible.....BUT it does get better.

He cut his medication in half and in just a couple of months he attempted suicide. His medication was increased as well as Lorazepam. He takes Ambien CR to sleep. About 2 months ago, while in REM he stated acting his nightmares. He has pulled my hair, punched the back of my head, and kicked my leg. He has thrown the bedside lamp and punch the mattress. He abruptly wakes up after acting out, remembers what he had done but vaguely remembers his nightmare. I feel I am in danger.

I know it sounds daft but he was told to try and eat a small handful of brazil nuts throughout the day they are a brill form of iron and they did seem to help. Hang in there you are doing really well. I wish you all the best for rest of tx.

The 10mg zyrtec is too strong for me so can I cut it in half and take 5mg instead?

Insomnia is temporary as you taper Ambien and stabilize on your present dose. Ambien has a very short half-life, designed to leave no hangover. Nice and user friendly, but wicked when trying to stop! Ask your doctor what he/she thinks about spreading it out; half at bed the other half when you wake up in the middle of your sleep period? I'm sure they'll figure out something to make you somewhat more comfortable.

on my worst night, i think i took 9. i always cut them in half to bypass the slow-release. at one point i was snorting it, but it gave me a sore throat so i stopped. i need to sleep. i don't know how to do this. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i don't smoke pot, and i don't know if that would improve this at all. i don't know. i don't know. i just need to SLEEP.

FYI-tried taking 9mg of melatonin with 5mg of ambien-not good! I think the melatonin kept me awake. Going to just cut my 5mg ambien in half and then stop. I'll probably take some Tylenol pm too. That seems to work better than melatonin, at least for me.

But every body is different and although most professionals will tell you there are no physical withdrawls when stopping ambien, since it can be cut in half there's no harm in taking extra causion to make sure your safe. But i would think that the seizure warning is either new, or maybe for ambien CR because when I was taking them in the past there was no such warning. So perhaps someone had a seizure while going off.

I realize this may sound strange but I was wondering if any of you have a "pill cutter" at home or do you just cut your pill in half with a knife? I am cutting down on the dose of my beta blocker per my Doctor and I was wondering if I have to purchase a pill cutter or can I just cut it with a knife or razor? I am a little anxious because you aren't supposed to "crush or chew" these pills and I'm afraid that if I cut it.......perhaps it will be crumbly.

Hi..I see no one got to you yet..Well first I would say talk to the DR..But from my experience you have only taken them for a month and not to much..You have the Ambien that will help..maybe just take the Xanax as needed to cut back and give it up soon..Both meds are addicting so please be careful. Good Job on giving up the Trams..I know those w/ds can be just as bad as my Methadone with my 2 other meds..Good Job!!

Can the ambien I take every night slow the healing progress in my brain I'm 16 days off hydrocodone

Very familiar. I existed in a zombie-like half awake, half asleep state for as long as I took ambien, and for a month or so after I quit. One day, about six weeks after quitting, I "woke up", so to speak. I realized that for the first time in a very long time, I could think clearly again. My mind wasn't foggy, and I could think, reason, etc. You don't realize what a daze ambien puts you in until you quit taking it. My doc tried me on trazodone, nortryptyline, valium, xanax.

I have ambien and havent tried it since doc said no benzo, sleeping meds, etc. He said try benedryl which does not work. Can you take ambien with sub?

It is only meant for very short term use 7-10 days per the Ambien website. You can have seizures from w/d from Ambien it has to be tapered off of very slowly. You need to be under a doctors care after being on this med for so long.

Like you, I didn't think I could do the hydrocodone and ambien. I'm trying to tapper off the ambien also. I was on 10mg. how much did you reduce it and for how long? Thank you for your post.

Isn't Opana Time Released? I know you're the doctor, but I don't think you should inform people to cut their medications in half, ESPECIALLY if they're time released as this could cause a rapid release of all the medication in turn making her more sick, or am I wrong? t take that long as Klonopin is one of the easier benzos to w/d from. The fact you had also been on the Ambien may or may not be a factor. I'm not qualified to tell you what the consequences of that combination might be. A quick phone call could answer these questions for you and I suggest it's always better to be safe than sorry. Hey there...you cannot cut the dose in half....i would call your doctor and see if he/she can change your meds or if it's ok to stop..Levaquin can be given in 250, 500 & 750 mg doses...I was on Levaquin earlier this year for uti and had horrible side effects, so i just stopped taking the meds...I had horrible heart pounding, swollen knees and it felt as if someone had beaten the crap out of me with a baseball bat...

t really a joke you could do something dangerous and end up hurting yourself so I recommend taking an ambien, when your in bed under your covers because if you take it literally on your walk to bed, dead serious, you could be in for a night of surprises
