Common Questions and Answers about Bystolic side effect beta blockers

bystolic

Avatar f tn In regards to the hives and itching, it is not a common side effect of beta-blockers though any medication has the potential to cause hives if the person taking the medication has a specific allergic reaction to something contained in the medication. I hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Is this type of recovery problem to be expected as a side effect of coreg, and can I expect this side effect to decrease over time or not? A few days ago my cardiologist said test showed I incurred no damage during the recent attack. In view of this, my SECOND QUESTION is: If I am in no worse shape than before the latest "attack", why do I need a beta blocker?
Avatar m tn LIke other beta blockers, the most common adverse events with Bystolic are headache, fatigue and dizziness. However, the manufacturer states studies have shown that Bystolic was well tolerated, with a low incidence of traditional beta blocker side effects. In addition, Bystolic decreases vascular peripheral resistance, improves left ventricular performance and is not associated with decreases in cardiac output sometimes seen with the initiation of other beta blockers.
Avatar n tn I commented in an earlier post. I've been on BYSTOLIC (5 mg)for about 3 months. The 1'st side effect which I became aware of was sharp pain in my knees, and achy legs when using the stairs. These pains got better after about a month. Other side effects include weight gain, high cholesterol (on my last blood test TOTAL chol went from about 200 to 266),sexual side-effects (low libido),fatigue and worst of all my last blood pressure reading was high (150/100).
Avatar f tn s pounding, and is a side effect of the beta blockers. i started off on metoprolol, but am now on bystolic, which has a lot less nasty side effects for me.
Avatar n tn I had the same arm, shoulder back and knee problems from the very next morning after taking my first Bystolic. I'm 67. I have exercised everyday since I was 14 years old. I don't normally have aches and pains. After five days I couldn't stand it anymore. When so many people are complaining about this, how can doctors and phamacists say it's not a side effect just because the literature doesn't mention it.
343006 tn?1314446471 3.14.010 : Info found out on rxlist - bystolic causeing in most paitents - Edema ! acute renal failure - hyperstensitivity - vrticaria - allergie vascultis - angio Edema it is also listed as " do not mix this medication with any other beta blockers" or cal channel blockers " such as verapamil listed in big block letters ! last night I suffered threw the worse ever side effects !
Avatar f tn I know that you have a nursing background but there are some hypertension specialists forum that mention that bystolic has been around in europe for a while and it is a good choice for those who cannot tolerate beta blockers. Blockers are not first choice treatment for hypertension but bystolic is okay, so a bit puzzled with your comment. And as you may know some people find a substantial decrease in panic and anxiety attacks when their hypertension is brought under control.
Avatar n tn Along with that, it has the same side effects as all the other beta blockers. If you have benign palpitations I would stay away. I was switched to bystolic, which has worked well for me where toprol and atenolol didn't.
Avatar m tn I have heard of people that have great success with beta blockers however I also know quite a few people that have had dreadful side effects with them. I tried Toprol for a little while and had no energy and felt like a bus had driven over me so I stopped taking them. Plus I didnt want to get to the point where coming off of them would be troublesome. All medications have side effects and it just depends on the person.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed 3 years ago with PSVT 10,000 extra a day, felt a lot of them and drove me nutso. I felt it was from heavy exercise over the previous year or chemical fumes I would breathe on occasion. Dr. wanted to do an ablation, I refused and thought let my heart mend since I had no structural issues, all electrical. I put my feet up and relaxed.
Avatar m tn You may have bad side effects from all Beta Blockers. Has you doctor considered calcium channel blockers? They work differently, but both BB and CCB lower heart rates in most people. How far down do you have to go? I can get 50 bpm down using a combination... i.e., from resting 130 to resting 80.
Avatar f tn I believe that it is the beta blocker that causes the pain and am now wondering if all beta blockers would cause it. Has anyone else had leg pain on the atenolol or bystolic? Also, can anyone else tell me of any other type of medicine that helped to lower heart rate other that a beta blocker?
Avatar n tn I had no idea beta blockers caused hair loss - I had enough of that after giving birth to my 2 children! I just started taking Metoprolol about 3 months ago and haven't noticed anything yet, but I'm on a pretty low dose - 25mg/day, I hope it stays this way. Good luck to you.
687614 tn?1244197979 or may be the symptoms I have are common to all Beta Blockers? I take 2.5 mg 2 times a day... My face is flushed, actually feels like it might blow up. I feel weak, tired, and suffer with sleep disturbances, and extreme nausea, lost 18 pounds in a month. It doesn't help too much to keep my pulse down, but stops my 160- 180 bpm SVT in the night. I was started on 2.5 mg at bedtime, and a morning 2.5 dose was added...
4703993 tn?1379768388 So he just prescriped me Digoxin - which he said he normally does not give to his patients with POTS and/or IST, but since I cant use beta blockers or calcium channel blockers, he wanted to give the Digoxin a try.... Anyways has anyone tried Digoxin and if so what were your experiences?
Avatar f tn I found out that it is the beta blocker most pulmonary doctors recommend it their patients need beta blockers... However there is no generic for Bystolic and it is more expensive... I sure do like it better than the Metorpolol though... its worth the extra cost..
2041376 tn?1329907457 I have had every test going and no organic cause has been found..I was put on Beta-blockers that made me feel like death..My cardiologist then put me on Flecainide 300mgs daily..The VE initially stopped which was great...For the last six months the VEs have come back with a vengeance and I feel crap most of the time...Have been admitted to ED several times but all tests come back normal and no-one seems to know whats going on...Have been told I have to learn to live with it!!!!!!
Avatar m tn Initially it has slightly reduced my heart palpitations which are less forceful, stopped some irregular or PACs and cut out the dreaming side effect of Coreg. However recently I have noticed that the color of my blood (taken to test blood sugar) is a distinct chocolate-brown color similar to whenever I have had to use Nitro tabs/patches for angina attacks. I have also been affected by regular bouts of diarrhea.
687614 tn?1244197979 But then I felt like something was weighing my stomach down...okay I accepted that as nausea, another side effect of Beta Blockers. Then my head felt like it was going to explode and felt heavy...Dr. told me to ignore it as I got used to it should go away. Then I took the second pill that evening, my body felt so heavy that I thought I couldn't take another step...I was washed out...drained...and felt like collapsing. Pulse and Blood pressure where in normal ranges too.
2177189 tn?1337555322 meaning, the faster your heart beats the more likely you are to trigger SVT. The goal of using the beta blocker is to keep your heart rate lower. Beta blockers do this by blocking adrenaline receptors in the heart muscle. This in turn will keep your heart rate, on average, slower. If your SVT is not high-rate enhanced this strategy won't help.
Avatar m tn Atenolol made me worse too. I had a really bad period last year when I was in the ER 5 times and in the hospital once. Even had a couple of episodes of afib. My doctor suggested bystolic. It has worked very well for the last year, I have been very pleased with it. In fact, I didn't switch my insurance this year because the alternative company did not want to authorize the use of the bystolic (it's a lot more expensive).
