Common Questions and Answers about Bronchitis pneumonia symptoms lungs

pneumonia

Avatar n tn It is common to expel discolored phlegm for some weeks to months after smoking cessation, but this is, almost always, not associated with fever. It sounds like you may have had acute bronchitis or pneumonia. If your phlegm continues to clear, albeit slowly, then there should be no problem. But if your phlegm begins to darken again, that may be a sign of active infection and you should see your doctor and get a chest x-ray.

Avatar f tn You would need to get an xray of your lungs to check for it or you may have bronchitis. Go to your doctor because medications are needed for pneumonia. Most doctors give meds for bronchitis too, but it is not needed.
Avatar n tn no, severe lung infections such as pneumonia or acute (bacterial) bronchitis can take many weeks to heal up from. Just watch out for relapses in symptoms of infections, such as fever and increasing shortness of breath.
Avatar n tn There are several things this can be. The first is bronchitis or pneumonia. Your doctor can tell you what is going on for sure and get you the proper treatment. Take care.
Avatar m tn Viral pneumonia can damage and inflame the alveoli (air sacs in the lungs). This, in turn, makes it more difficult to breathe when you get sick and worsens symptoms of the common cold. He might want to see a doctor to make sure that there is still not a virus being harbored in his lungs. When the cold produces phlegm, it can be harder for the lungs to process and expel, resulting in shortness of breath and tightness.
Avatar m tn Prominence of bronchovascular markings may be associated with viral infection like pneumonia as well as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is also recommended that you stop smoking as well as to eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of fluids. It is best that you discuss the result with your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn s from getting the flu and a secondary infection sets in, such as pneumonia or acute bronchitis. Other times you could get acute bronchitis from being exposed to a lot of irritants in the air (such as wood dust, heavy pollution etc). And some peoples lungs are more susceptible to lower respiratory infections, if they have a pre-existing lung disorder, such as asthma, or COPD.
Avatar n tn are all spots on the lungs cancer? can bronchitis leave scar tissue on the lungs?
Avatar f tn Your symptoms are classic bronchitis. You should see the doctor again if it is longer than 3 weeks or have a fever. So since it has been longer if you have seen a doctor you may want to make sure the antibiotic is working. But I think if it was classic pneumonia you would have a fever. So they may want to switch antibiotics. But it is good that your lungs are clear. The chest pain though is a more of a sign of pneumonia.
Avatar m tn what can be done
Avatar f tn Mucus will pool in the lower portions of your lungs since they are overdistended. You will be prone to bronchitis, pneumonia, and have expiratory wheezes accompanied by a productive cough in the mornings when you waken. If you start feeling like you are coming down with a cold You can inhale as deep as you possibly can and hold it for 2 seconds then exhale 10 times/hour on average. I say once for each commercial if you watch TV. The key is to do it periodically throughout your day.
Avatar f tn We live in Bulgaria and I am having a hard time getting proper treatment for my daughter. She is a year and 7 months old and last month we spent 16 days in 2 hospitals diagnosed with "Bronhit Pneumonia" which I can only translate as Bronchitis and Pneumonia. In the hospitals they changed antibiotics 5 times and did 5 xrays. After 2 weeks she has started coughing and wheezing after running and playing. This has occurred 4 times both indoors and outside.
Avatar f tn Hello, These symptoms can be due to bronchitis or pneumonia. Symptoms of bronchitis include Cough that produces mucus, Soreness in the chest, Fatigue, Mild headache, Mild body aches, Low-grade fever, Watery eyes and Sore throat. Diagnosis is done by physical examination. Sometimes chest X-ray may be needed. I feel that you should get yourself examined by a physician so as to reach a confirmatory diagnosis as treatment is diagnosis specific.
Avatar f tn It could be a sign of Bronchitis or pneumonia. I would go to the Urgent Care and see what they can do. Possibly a chest x-ray to find out if you have bronchitis or pneumonia. If they find something, they will put you on an antibiotic. Like me, I'm still trying to fight off my bronchitis, and they put me on Zithromax (Z-pack). But I would definitely go to the urgent care or see your PCP first.
Avatar n tn I figure the excercise is irritating the lungs. I am worried that this bronchitis is chronic and it has being going on for at least six weeks now.
Avatar n tn I had a small sneeze and runny nose for a day or two and about 2 weeks later was dx with bronchitis. No cold symptoms by then, just exhausted, back hurt and I was not breathing deeply. Get seen, it can turn into pneumonia. Take care.
Avatar n tn Every other year for 15 years I would have either pneumonia or bronchitis. I would be given antibiotics for relief. I had always been sensitive to temperature or weather changes. Whenever I sweat, if the sweat dried up on my back, I would easily develop a sore cough or cold. In 2001 a CT scan revealed a 12 mm-nodule. My doctor told me I had nasal drippings; he gave me a nose spray.
Avatar n tn If it felt like rice crispies were popping in your lungs, then it's most likely pneumonia. That symptom can come and go, it doesn't have to be constant. Rattling in the lungs when you're sick isn't a good sign, even if it's not pneumonia, and you need to see your doctor very soon or go to urgent care, especially if you get a fever.
Avatar f tn I think I had bronchitis and left it untreated and it turned into something worse...pneumonia? ...upper respitory? My diaphragm? My actually lungs swelling? Please help. I also have anxiety so it makes it worse....
Avatar f tn If you are lower, first make sure you arent talking and that you are breathing while clip is on, you may have something going on in the lungs... Pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, COPD.... There could be many possibilities. The testing will give you more answers. Troubles with breathing and coughing, etc. do not always indicate an infection. Make sure you tell the lung Dr if you have smoked in past or present or if you lived with a smoker or worked in a smoky environment. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I went through a time, in the beginning where I was having Pneumonia back to back and Bronchitis too. I have Chronic Bronchitis now. But I was like your Dad. I was getting aspirations. It is a terrible thing to go through. I was hospitalized a few times and had to have a tube put down my throat. My doctor put me on Lasix and Potassium to get rid of the fluid and it has been a real life saver. I couldn't live without it. If your Dad is not on Lasix, he needs to be.
Avatar m tn Well, GERD that is not well treated and is severe enough that it goes up to your larynx and gets aspirated into your lungs will cause infection such as bronchitis or pneumonia. Eventually over time the acid will damage your lungs enough that you can get COPD, so I really recommend against smoking for this reason. As smoking only adds to the problem.
Avatar n tn and that the Nurse suggested that you contact your Dr. and get an X-ray to see if you might have Bronchitis or possibly even pneumonia or wanted to know if you have Asthma as the mildew that you said is in your workplace could be triggering an asthma attack. I hope that you will do what she has suggested as she is a professional and you should definitely listen to her suggestions. I hope that you will let us know how you are doing as we are all concerned about you.
Avatar f tn A chest x-ray a couple of days ago confirmed that I do NOT have pneumonia now, but I can still hear sounds in my lungs when I do deep breathing. I don't want to battle with my doctor (who is a huge advocate of levaquin), but it seems that levaquin is not the right direction for me (I am allergic to penicillin), even if I were to develop pneumonia, which, with the corticosteroids, is also an increasing possibility. Do you have any further insight on this for me? Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn In many instances lung infections are not purely bronchitis but may be a combination of bronchitis and pneumonia and the urgent care physician may have noted X-ray findings suggestive of bronchitis, pneumonia or both. Acute bronchitis is often caused by viruses, less often by bacteria and, not infrequently, by organisms that are neither bacterial or viral, called Mycoplasma. The X-ray picture is not specific for any of these.
442628 tn?1204892851 I went to the doctor last night and was diagnosed with bronchitis. Now I am having severe localized pain in my upper back region kind of around where my kidney is. Should I be concerned. I also have fever of 102.3 and severe congestion.
Avatar m tn So about a week and a half ago I was diagnosed with bronchitis/ walking pneumonia. He said that it was bronchitis but then he found a specific spot and said it was pneumonia in its beginning stages. He gave me the blue inhaler, azithromycin (I'm allergic to penicillin), and told me to take tylenol four times a day. My symptoms leading up to this were dry cough, wheezing, and coughing fits so violent it set off my gag reflex and it has hard to breath.
