Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia symptoms or bronchitis

pneumonia

Avatar n tn It is common to expel discolored phlegm for some weeks to months after smoking cessation, but this is, almost always, not associated with fever. It sounds like you may have had acute bronchitis or pneumonia. If your phlegm continues to clear, albeit slowly, then there should be no problem. But if your phlegm begins to darken again, that may be a sign of active infection and you should see your doctor and get a chest x-ray.
1353681 tn?1387083733 I believe I have an upper respiratory infection.. the one with the drawn out, long, hard cough :( I do feel mucous now, after a week, but also noticed a couple mins of wheezing with it earlier. It has not come in several hours since then, but someone said wheezing is a symptom of pneumonia. I don't have any other symptoms of pneumonia though, like fever, sweats, or chills. Is it possible an upper respiratory infection can have wheezing sometimes too and it is NOT pneumonia?
Avatar n tn I took the patch off about an hour ago but still feel very dizzy, nauseated, and my head is pounding. Is this normal? Please help, I am not sure if tis is due to the pneumonia ad bronchitis or quitting.
Avatar f tn I have had bronchitis 3 times, pneumonia once, and a sinus infection once...in the past 3 months. I feel confused alot. My blood test show highly elevated white blood cells. First it was my lymphocytes, then it was my neutraphils, then it was my lymphocytes. Then my WBC dropped to a normal level, but my neutrophils were really low. The doc says she thinks its an autoimmune disease, a blood production disease or cancer.
Avatar f tn It sounds like a severe case of bronchitis that you got from getting the pneumonia, obviously just an observation though. Go back to your primary doctor and tell them your symptoms haven't changed, you may need different antibiotics. I had acute bronchitis with a nasty cough for about 5 months and I went to the doctor twice for it and the second time they gave me different antibiotics and it helped. Good luck, hope you feel better!
Avatar f tn s possible) cough 2.5 weeks after initial symptoms with bronchitis? Should I be concerned? When should I start to be concerned? I've been to the doc once already....told bronchitis & given antibiotic that didn't help. Next step to take?
Avatar n tn I did new doctor says no more pneumonia maybe bronchitis. Im taking the z.pack. BUt I feel likei still have the pneumonia.I steel feel bad. sweating at night. coughing bad . Help me!!!!
Avatar n tn Every other year for 15 years I would have either pneumonia or bronchitis. I would be given antibiotics for relief. I had always been sensitive to temperature or weather changes. Whenever I sweat, if the sweat dried up on my back, I would easily develop a sore cough or cold. In 2001 a CT scan revealed a 12 mm-nodule. My doctor told me I had nasal drippings; he gave me a nose spray.
354236 tn?1196902187 However, my diagnosis was acute bronchitis; maybe your husband has CHRONIC bronchitis due to his job...this type of bronchitis never goes away.
Avatar f tn So my dumba$$ coworker has been sick for more than a week, and today he came saying he might have had pneumonia. Now he's just coughing a lot, but when it started, two wednesdays ago, he was feeling horrible and didn't come to work on thurs or fri. He hasnt even been to the doctor, he just looked online at the symptoms and that's what he thinks he had.
Avatar f tn Hello, These symptoms can be due to bronchitis or pneumonia. Symptoms of bronchitis include Cough that produces mucus, Soreness in the chest, Fatigue, Mild headache, Mild body aches, Low-grade fever, Watery eyes and Sore throat. Diagnosis is done by physical examination. Sometimes chest X-ray may be needed. I feel that you should get yourself examined by a physician so as to reach a confirmatory diagnosis as treatment is diagnosis specific.
Avatar f tn You would need to get an xray of your lungs to check for it or you may have bronchitis. Go to your doctor because medications are needed for pneumonia. Most doctors give meds for bronchitis too, but it is not needed.
Avatar n tn no, severe lung infections such as pneumonia or acute (bacterial) bronchitis can take many weeks to heal up from. Just watch out for relapses in symptoms of infections, such as fever and increasing shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn It could be a sign of Bronchitis or pneumonia. I would go to the Urgent Care and see what they can do. Possibly a chest x-ray to find out if you have bronchitis or pneumonia. If they find something, they will put you on an antibiotic. Like me, I'm still trying to fight off my bronchitis, and they put me on Zithromax (Z-pack). But I would definitely go to the urgent care or see your PCP first.
Avatar m tn Re your second question, the answer is yes, you could have had acute bronchitis with one or both episodes, or even mild pneumonia. Even two closely occurring bouts of bronchitis would not be cause for concern and would not be associated with long term adverse effects. While unlikely, these episodes could be a sign of some other respiratory disease, not encompassed by the preceding discussion, of which there are many and thus your concern is warranted.
Avatar f tn I have had it. You need to go to a specialist right away. You could have codp or chronic bronchitis. I had your symptoms for years and now I have copd. Pleurisy is painful because of the spasms. Be pro active and get a handle on this now before it gets any worse or goes into something a lot more dangerous.
Avatar n tn In many instances lung infections are not purely bronchitis but may be a combination of bronchitis and pneumonia and the urgent care physician may have noted X-ray findings suggestive of bronchitis, pneumonia or both. Acute bronchitis is often caused by viruses, less often by bacteria and, not infrequently, by organisms that are neither bacterial or viral, called Mycoplasma. The X-ray picture is not specific for any of these.
Avatar n tn I am not suggesting that B5 will prevent bronchitis, but it will dramatically lessen the symptoms.
Avatar m tn NO!!! There is chlamydia pneu-something that is present in pneumonia. Then there is chlamydia trachi-something that is what the std is.
Avatar f tn I've had bronchitis and pneumonia and baby is perfect!
Avatar m tn What is unnusual for me is that the last hospital diagnosed me acute bronchitis and the other ones pneumonia,(the gap between the 2nd and the third hospital was 2 weeks, is this logical???). After that I was seeing the doctor regularly because wanted to make more blood tests, he ruled out lupus and those weird illnesses that you dont recognize easily,I was feeling better and have my next follow up appoinment in 2 months for an xray.
Avatar m tn , which is compatible with the fact that I carried on doing what I did in everyday life - which may have lingered on (as it remained untreated), causing asthma and/or possibly chronic bronchitis/COPD? Overwhelming mucus hypersecretion during the attack and very persistent dyspnea afterwards seem to point more towards chronic bronchitis/COPD? Follow-up PFT showed the inhaler had very little effect, only pushing FEV1 up from 82 to 85%.
Avatar n tn In the last 9 months I have been diagnosed with asthmatic bronchitis, which has lead to pneumonia twice, and right now and sick again with pneumonia, which may or may not have started with bronchitis or sinus infection they do not know. I have never had pneumonia in my life, now all of a sudden 3 times in less then a year. What could be causing this?? I have been having a lot of trouble with my digestive system. I have reflux a lot.
Avatar f tn Anyway, there are different reasons we get pneumonia. People think of bacterial or viral. We can also have chemical or traumatic. And pneumonia is not like bronchitis. So, symptoms are not always as predictable. It can take a while to get over. If you still have your symptoms on day 5 on antibiotics, I would call your doctor. The thing with antibiotics is that different ones treat different pathogens. What pathogen caused your pneumonia if it is bacterial?
Avatar f tn Hello, Chronic cough can be caused by cigarette smoking, asthma, GERD, allergic rhinitis and sinusitis causing PND, lung infections like bronchitis and pneumonia, tumors, sarcoidosis or other lung disease and medicines like ACE inhibitors used as antihypertensives. In your case, it can be due to allergies or lung causes like bronchitis. I suggest you to get an evaluation done from a chest physician.
