1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar m tn my son had nenmonia which led to ostomialitus and a broken leg. this was all eighteen months ago. he is now 3 and a half years old but still walks with a very stiff leg and can not walk up and down stairs with out putting his hand on his knee to use as a support or for leaverage. he has recovered his muscle lost which happened due to his broken leg. His pediatrition has no answer to this stiffness, walking issue...
Avatar m tn I would contact your doctor about your leg, it is possible a nerve was hit but you should get it checked out. My leg healed pretty quickly.

Avatar n tn On 8/03/10 i also have had a tlif l4-s1 with a complete laminectomy due to l4 and l5 disk herniating and really bad lightning bolts of pain shooting down my rear and left leg. Today is 9/03/10 one month sence i had the surgery. I fell while walking/light grocery shopping 2 weeks ago. So my dr. had me an appontment on 9/01/10 to make sure i didnt screw up anything in my back. I went and had some xrays taken before the dr. appontment.
Avatar n tn My PT fitted me with a brace that ran from my thigh to my foot on the third day and set me to trying to walk, He actually had to kick the leg to get it moving, It weighed too much I couldn't move it. I think I was actually walking at the end of the first week with lots of verbal cues from my PT and a AFO and cane. I never had any pain in any of my extremities. I don't think pain, or lack of it, says much about recovery.
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar n tn my recovery has been nothing like the initial one. Meaning I am already walking without crutches. I do have a sligth pain in the knee are but it's part of the heeling process. A healthy diet and physio/ exercising pending your capabilities is essential to the heeling process. You are still young and should be able to bounce back. I had my tibial rod for 13 months prior to it's removal last week.
Avatar f tn One day.
Avatar f tn I have just recently started walking again after having a pulmarary embolism a year ago this month. I still have to hold on to something when I walk so I go to the local grocery store and use a buggy to help keep me stable. I walk around to outside isle and then up and down each isle. I have built myself up to doing two full laps. I have a lot of pain in my lower legs and right hip. Should I be warming up before I walk with some leg lifts or what? Ism also wanting to try and strengthen my arms.
Avatar m tn The result was a double compound fracture of my right leg. Both major bones were broken and exposed about an inch about the ankle joint. Fortunately for me, when I arrived at the hospital, one of the best orthopedic surgeons in Las Vegas was on call. Two years, two surgeries (about 8 hours worth), a bone graft and six months in a wheel chair I am walking much better than I could have expected. My question; I generally wear softer soled shoes ( walking tennies, etc.
Avatar f tn The usual period for healing is around 6-8 weeks, but lower leg fractures take a little more to recover. The initial one week period is also taken into account. Follow up is advised every two weeks to see whether alignment is proper or not. In case of misalignment found at any point of treatment surgery might be necessary. Hope this information was helpful. Best.
Avatar n tn That means before I can walk it will be 9 weeks from the injury date. All for a broken fibula and sprained deltoid ligament. I think the doctor is being extremely conservative, I need to be weight bearing to get back to work. Does this seem like a rather stiff sentence? Shouldn't it be 6 weeks from the injury date assuming normal healing occurs on the bone?
Avatar n tn I just had spinal fusion surgery, but less extensive than yours was. I am not having any leg weakness or difficulty walking at all. I am 7 weeks post op. I think you should call your surgeons office and run this by them, just to be on the safe side. As Tuck says, these symptoms *can* happen, but as always, if it seems severe and is occuring 12 weeks post op, I personally would want my surgeon to be aware and to have it documented in my medical records.
Avatar f tn t running marathons or even walking the dog very far...but having this new leg pain( it has me almost in tears) is new/unexpected . Wondering if any one is using a wheelchair a lot or a bit, or has bad leg pain as well. Thanks.
Avatar m tn I have undiagnosed nervous system disorder and I get this actually but more in the groin, and down my left leg, numbness and not being able to tell if someone touches my leg or not. It certainly could be the after affects of the accident it will take a long time for all the nerves to heal, and it oculd be the results of the brain hemoraghe or just that the accident has caused some spinal cord trauma.
Avatar f tn It pops when i squat down or still hurts walking too much or up and down stairs. Also i can move my leg around and it pops. And during alone time with my husband you can hear it pop. It has been about 6 years since it broke. Now you have me thinking about mine when my baby drops or birth. I already have an 11yr old so, i had nothing to worry about their.

Avatar f tn I am going to have surgery quite soon for my herniated/broken disc. I wondered how long if anyone has had this, how long is recovery? I mean how long for pain? WIll I feel great right away and be able to do normal things? Now, a relative who thinks they are the only one with pain and mostly lies, so I don't know whether to believe them or not said our grandfather had the surgery and was up literally dancing right after surgery that day.
Avatar m tn so my docter did surgery one year later, he took the nail out of my leg and replaced it with a plate and and screws, during surgery he broke my fibula to get the plate in place. i dont no why he did it but my tibia feels alot better and now my fibula is broken, my question is has anyone ever had a corrective surgery on there tibia and had there fibula broken. And how long does it take for the fib to heal and am i screwed ? i dont know what to do.
