1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.
Avatar m tn The nose end of the vehicle landed on her right lower leg, crushing the Tibia and Fracturing the Fibula. She was Med-Flighted the 40+ miles to Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children in Alabama. I would have preferred that she had been flown to UAB in Birmingham, Alabama but she was losing a lot of blood, so good thinking on behalf of the Med Flight Crew. Anyway, she spent 8 hours in the Pediatric Trauma/ER before seeing a surgeon...
Avatar n tn The stroke has impacted her left side (her arm and leg). She is now in rehab. She is still has a hard time standing up. We would like to know whether she can ever walk again.
Avatar f tn I have been reading about the surgery and the recovery process and time, which terrifies me. I am only 35 and lost my competency with life. I am going to have another scan at a different hospital and get a second opinion. If the concur I would have to have the surgery or I could choose to suffer. I love this support group, it gives me confidence from people like you. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I had a bad car accident when I was 19 and had multiple fractures. I recovered in about three months from a broken leg, femur, hip, arm, shoulder and pelvis all on my right side.... The docs were pretty impressed but I did it all because I couldn't afford.to stay in bed and needed a fast recoverie. All I'm saying hunn is that just because the situation seems bad it doesn't mean it will be like that for ever.
Avatar m tn As a result, I required nearly 10 hours of surgery to repair two badly broken legs and L forearm. During my recovery, my L femur was the most painful of my broken bones. However, since it healed, it has been the injury that has never caused any further issues/pain. Well, that is up until about 6 months ago when my femur started aching. Over the past few months, it has progressed to aching pretty much constantly.
Avatar f tn (let me apologize in advance if this msg is jumbled, confusing, and my grammar is poor... some of my family members think the TV should be loud enough so the people in the house beside us can hear it) Hi everyone. I'm new to the website but thought it may be a great place to ask my question. Okay, so here's the situation. 8 years ago while crossing the street I was struck by a car driven by a drunk driver.
Avatar n tn He will experience some weakness in the leg after not putting weight on it for an extended period of time. He will also experience some stiffness and loss of mobility in in ankle. These issues will be addressed in the physical therapy. He will most likely also be given exercises to do at home to rebuild the strength and mobility of his leg and ankle. I hope he has a speedy recovery!

Avatar n tn The standard response is that the brain cells that were just knocked unconscious usually come back in six months. The recovery of functions that were controlled by the now dead brain cells will require your brain to work on neuroplasticity, basically moving control to another part of your brain. That change can take a long time, I have heard of cases 15-20 years after a stroke and recovery can still take place.
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar n tn So we had the surgery, now a couple years down the road im very much regreting the surgery, i have pain from time to time in my leg and where the screw is at. Also only one screw was placed in at the top, should there of been another screw put in? Ive been having some anxiety about it lately and considering having it removed?? Also ive never heard of a 15 year old having this kind of surgery for a broken bone, was this an uneccessary surgery?
1970885 tn?1435860428 Seems like I've been posting on the forum a lot lately. It's probably because I took my youngest to college a few weeks ago and have been trying to cope ever since. This post is for those of you who are struggling with addiction / trying to get clean who have children, especially young children. I'll try to keep it short. My kids are 25, 20 and 18. I've used for over 15 years. I missed so much; I put my addiction before my children time after time.
Avatar n tn I was given the choice to do a cast or metal rod with pins through my leg for a speedy recovery in witch i choose. It was put through the lower part of my leg down to my ankle Big mistake! I can't even walk a mile without my leg killing me. Hurts from my Knee down to where there is a small bump (feels like bone) on top of my ankle. I need to know if the rod and pins can be removed? If so how fast is the recovery and will the pain go away?
Avatar m tn I've had two discectomy and fusion surgeries in my neck, the second of which included plates. After two years of absolute misery and no help with pain management (the practice was in its infancy and unknown to me at the time) I'd had enough of being in pain and decided I'd either fix myself or break myself into complete disability. Serious weightlifting with a personal trainer knocked the pain from my neck, shoulders and upper back completely out of my life in about 6 weeks.
Avatar f tn I know exactly why: time of year, stress from DH's broken leg (WHY are they babying him?!), not recovering as fast & well as I had hoped, and looking at a lonely & boring Christmas.
Avatar f tn Many thanks to you for your reply. I think at this point in time we are going along with you of this being stress related as he shows no symptoms during the daytime. He leg was broken when he was run over by a "friends" vehicle which has traumatized him far more than we have realized. We will continue to monitor his condition/behavior and give more support to his emotional well being. Once again many thanks for your help, advice and time it is very much appreciated.
488264 tn?1226520307 I hate to hear about your broken leg. God does have a sense of humor. Use this time to slow down and take any help that is offered to you. I pray that you are not alone all of the time, that can make recovery so difficult. Also, too much company can be difficult. Please keep hanging around here!
Avatar m tn I have undiagnosed nervous system disorder and I get this actually but more in the groin, and down my left leg, numbness and not being able to tell if someone touches my leg or not. It certainly could be the after affects of the accident it will take a long time for all the nerves to heal, and it oculd be the results of the brain hemoraghe or just that the accident has caused some spinal cord trauma.
1204932 tn?1278462094 Hi, Usually, recovery from a discectomy procedure takes time (standard is six weeks) and as everyone is different it may vary as well. Most of the times, one may experience back and leg pain during the recovery period. However, essentially you should avoid prolonged sitting, lifting heavy objects, bending, twisting and excessive exertion for the first three weeks. It is not like that you restrict all activities but you should gradually increase your physical activities over this period.
Avatar m tn I have severe chronic back pain due to an auto accident I was in many years ago. I've been on several different muscle relaxers including Skelaxin and Flexeril. Skelaxin did not help me at all but Flexeril did. The Flexeril worked great for many years until it stopped and I had to switch to a new med and that's when my Dr put me on the Soma. The Soma does work great but I struggle to keep it under control.
