1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.
Avatar n tn He will experience some weakness in the leg after not putting weight on it for an extended period of time. He will also experience some stiffness and loss of mobility in in ankle. These issues will be addressed in the physical therapy. He will most likely also be given exercises to do at home to rebuild the strength and mobility of his leg and ankle. I hope he has a speedy recovery!

He plays travel team baseball and is a catcher primarily for the team. Should he be expected to be out the entire summer season? Thank you.

Avatar n tn That means before I can walk it will be 9 weeks from the injury date. All for a broken fibula and sprained deltoid ligament. I think the doctor is being extremely conservative, I need to be weight bearing to get back to work. Does this seem like a rather stiff sentence? Shouldn't it be 6 weeks from the injury date assuming normal healing occurs on the bone?
Avatar m tn about a day ago some light bruising in my leg with some pain in the groin and leg area. But no swelling, pus or redness in the operation site. Is this normal or of any concern??
Avatar f tn (let me apologize in advance if this msg is jumbled, confusing, and my grammar is poor... some of my family members think the TV should be loud enough so the people in the house beside us can hear it) Hi everyone. I'm new to the website but thought it may be a great place to ask my question. Okay, so here's the situation. 8 years ago while crossing the street I was struck by a car driven by a drunk driver.
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar f tn The usual period for healing is around 6-8 weeks, but lower leg fractures take a little more to recover. The initial one week period is also taken into account. Follow up is advised every two weeks to see whether alignment is proper or not. In case of misalignment found at any point of treatment surgery might be necessary. Hope this information was helpful. Best.
Avatar n tn I'm 21 old had a severe injury to my left leg tibia & fibula in motor bike accident got hit a lorry.. Broken Tibia bone came out making a hole in my skin, i had lost blood... Then i has surgery after 12 hrs, with a rod & 2 nails inserted only for Tibia, but they did nothing to broken fibula... Now after 11 months, I'm walking normally but still i cant run, jump & unable to climb stairs quickly... Please tell me, 1. when can i run & able climb stairs quickly? 2.
Avatar n tn The standard response is that the brain cells that were just knocked unconscious usually come back in six months. The recovery of functions that were controlled by the now dead brain cells will require your brain to work on neuroplasticity, basically moving control to another part of your brain. That change can take a long time, I have heard of cases 15-20 years after a stroke and recovery can still take place.
Avatar n tn i had splints installed to both bones mid leg to the ankle, it is now the 6 month period, i am off crutches however after an hour of being on the leg it is a swollen mess. After sleeping it is almost back to normal, I also get it massaged and that gets it down The doctors, have had 2 opinions, both said it is going to take a long time to heal, the swelling is an issue though, I can feel both the plates and some of the screws when it has really swollen up.
Avatar m tn My 6 yr old female cat jumped from a tree branch about 5 ft high. She is always jumping up onto ledges or down from them, she jumps very high, always climbing trees, etc. Anyway, her front paw is now swollen and she will not walk on it, she limps all around. She does not seem to be in pain, she still goes up and down the steps and jumps on and off the furniture and beds, going to the food dish etc.
Avatar n tn Tibia is the shin bone that bears most of the weight and the Fibula is the splint bone located on the outside of the lower leg. In the case of a closed fracture there may be swelling and discolouration due to the large amounts of blood that emanate from a fractured bone. The usual healing time for a mid-shaft Tibia and Fibula fracture treated with cast immobilisation is 12 to 16 weeks.

Avatar m tn I have undiagnosed nervous system disorder and I get this actually but more in the groin, and down my left leg, numbness and not being able to tell if someone touches my leg or not. It certainly could be the after affects of the accident it will take a long time for all the nerves to heal, and it oculd be the results of the brain hemoraghe or just that the accident has caused some spinal cord trauma.
Avatar n tn I gone down the same road as you in the past 10 yrs, discectomy, 2X then after continued pain due to broken bone due to the laminectomy, I had fusion in 2007. It was a long recovery period, however artificial disk replacement is only for one level at this time. I found great pain relief from the fusion. it stablized my back to the point that i have done 5 small triathlons since then.
Avatar m tn The nose end of the vehicle landed on her right lower leg, crushing the Tibia and Fracturing the Fibula. She was Med-Flighted the 40+ miles to Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children in Alabama. I would have preferred that she had been flown to UAB in Birmingham, Alabama but she was losing a lot of blood, so good thinking on behalf of the Med Flight Crew. Anyway, she spent 8 hours in the Pediatric Trauma/ER before seeing a surgeon...
Avatar f tn have a seroma that came up after surgery on melanoma and a lymph node that was removed in my leg. Test came back neg. Anyway this lemon size bump in my groin is driving me crazy. I was told my body would absorb it. Well I'm reading it might take up to a year. Anyone else with this problem? It does not hurt, just bothers me. It has been 2 months since all this. Now my ankle is swelling some. Is this all related?
