Is it possible for a fasting blood sugar to elevate from anxiety in the doctors office. My blood pressure can. It has gone from 140/70 to 110/58 in just five minutes at the clinic. I hate the doctors office. Even though my best friend is my internist, I get torqued out big time.
Dear Crystal, I was told by a pharmacist that sometimes the digital blood pressure machines are NOT ACCURATE. I found a BIG DIFFERENCE between one digital blood pressure machine, and a mechanical one. The digital one read MUCH LOWER (every time I did comparisons)than the mechanical ("anaerobic") one. I ended up buying a GOOD QUALITY blood pressure machine (mechanical/anaerobic) with stethescope attached, from a medical school bookstore. The brand is TYCOS.
I'm by no means an expert in high blood pressure, as I've had low blood pressure ever since I can remember. I think you should talk to your doctor about it and have it monitored regularly. You don't want to neglect it, it can become serious. Check into your diet and supplements again, you might be getting too much of the good stuff, which might not be so good for the blood pressure. I'm careful with eating stuff which reduces blood pressure, as mine is too low.
what is the number of blood sugar in the morning afternoon and evening between meals and how many hours after food, thanks
Levemir should not increase your blood pressure. But stress and anxiety can. Your very high blood sugar is going to cause you complications. What is your correction factor? How many units of insulin does it take to bring your blood sugar down by say 20 points. But you can only test this properly AFTER you've adjusted your levemir and have your non-eating (basal) blood sugar stable. Becuase for now the humalog is replacing too low basal insulin.
I am blood pressure and bedroflumethiazide to control my blood pressure. When you are on blood pressure medications you need to have an annual blood check done for kidney and liver function. I had been on Ibuprofen for arthritic pains and my legs have swollen. Last week my doctor told me to stop the diuretic (the bendro) and the Ibuprofen as this can cause oedema. With all the problems you have and the medications you take, you should only stop midications on advice of your doctor.
I saw him for annual appointment (he started me on florinef a year ago for low blood pressure). At this appointment my BP was still very low, blood tests showed low blood sugar on a few occasions and I'd lost over 20lbs without trying. He suspect AI, so he tested for cortisol, acth, glucose, etc & 24 hour UFC. 24 hour UFC was low, serum cortisol was normal but inappropriately low due to low blood sugar of 2.6.
I very rarely check my blood sugar levels but when I do it is usually between 110-125 in the morning fasting, and 120-130 2 hrs after eating. Almost 5 months ago my Primary care Doc. put me on Crestor for high cholestoral. 1 month later he was not saticfied with the drop in cholestoral so he put me on a fairley new drug called Trilipix. I take 10mg of lisinopril for high blood pressure, 10 mg of crestor, and 145mg of trilipix.
My normal blood pressure is around 75/65. Today my BP is 160/8. Purchased a brand new meter and my sugar level was higher then i have ever know it to be @195. Should I be concerned? My vision has cleared some what, but I still feel as if I may hurl at any moment. At what point should I become concerned? I do know in the 400-500 range is very bad, and could cause a stroke. I am just confused if there is any dangers for meat 195. I have never been higher the 85 ever. Going to lay down now.
I have had these same sort of episodes and my doctor thinks it is related to my blood pressure/blood sugar. My episodes do tend to happen after I have been sitting or laying down and first stand up.
You don't mention whether you've had any testing done. ie. EKG, blood work, etc. But let's assume that your cardiac and pulmonary functions are relatively normal. About the stress test. This is not something that you're supposed to complete. Just about everybody fails at some point in the test. The best I've down before punching out was 12 minutes. Did you get a report on the thest? Was an echo cardiogram done immediately following the test?
By the way, stress and anxiety impact your blood sugar levels since the adrenal response is closely tied with blood sugar levels. Getting stress under control and going on the carb cleanse then slowly working up into whole grain, complex carbs with lots of protein, green veggies, vitamin B, and 8 hours of sleep keeps my whole family running. When one of us get "out of whack" we all now how to "intervene"....
I got all of my records from the past week and found out they gave me Nitroglycerin after the stress test when my blood pressure crashed. Blood work from this visit shows high lymphocites, low venous O2 saturation. Sodium and Potassium normal range this time. If I lay dwn for a while or sit about a 45 to 60 degree angle, I'm feeling relief of pains after relaxing for a while. I have problems breathing, chest pains, and dizziness if I push myself to do a lot or walk around to much.
Thank you. I am almost certain that is what it is. I am going to change my diet and hope i feel better.
I am not an expert either, but from general knowledge as a nurse I would expect you to follow your diet plan as given, eating perhaps 4-5 small meals a day (if that is what your doctor has instructed you) and keeping near the 20 gm net carb limit, no matter what your blood sugar is. Just keep a log of what you eat and when, and a log of when and what your blood sugar is. That may help the doc figure out what YOUR body needs.
Are there any drugs on the market that target systolic blood pressure and do not effect diastolic pressures? Can it possibly be a different generic from the pharmacy, if so what of the above drugs would most likely effect the higher systolic pressure?
ramsetty, has the new blood pressure medicine tekturna showed any promise. my blood pressure,is constantly averaging 140/100, i am on diovan hct 320/25,and clonidine 0.1, any suggestions?
Don't drive. Log the periods of weakness. You need to get a glucose tolerance test. Abnormal blood sugar levels cause the body to reduce the glucose level by an alternative means, which uses fluid. This reduces the ratio of fluid to solid matter within the bloodstream and increases the propensity of the blood to clot or fail to properly circulate. Often, after a cery stressful experience (a death in the family) people turn to "pigging out" to deal with the situation.
I had wondered if it was my blood pressure, as a few days earlier my doctor told me to watch that because it was borderline, but they said it was not significantly higher than normal. They did an EKG and blood tests and couldn't find anything wrong with me so they sent me home.
Do you have any other symptoms? Do you check your blood pressure and pulse on a regular basis? It might be a good idea to keep a log of these readings at other times and also when you notice the irregular heart rate. My daughter wore a Holter Monitor (24 hour) and her heart rate got up to 160 a few times. Her regular doctor wasn't concerned about it but since she was laying around the entire time I thought it was odd.
These complications are often the result of long-term uncontrolled blood sugars. You can learn how to keep your blood sugars in target range the majority of the time. The key word is "learn". Diabetes is a complex condition that has nearly as many different variables as there are diabetics. Management takes place on many levels and is best accomplished by a team of which the central person, the director and producer if you will is...you. You need to assemble your team thoughtfully.
Just one more thing. I have Sleep Apnea (excessive snoring) and my dad has it. My dad told me that blood sugars would be higher due to this. He uses the sleep apnea machine and before he used it he told me his blood sugar was higher and after its been lower. I have not got any tests done for sleep apnea but I snore loudly and have been since age 23 and now I am 28 (male). Since I am pre-diabetic would getting treated for sleep apnea lower blood sugar?
A1c of 6.0 means your average blood sugars are over 100 which is not normal. A normal A1C is between 4.1 - 4.6. Great that your fasting is normal, but it would appear that your sugars after eating are high. Target after eating 2 hours is 120 or less, but much more ideally it should be < 100. According to Bernstein truely normal blood sugar is 83 and is maintained in a narrow range around this value (+-10) in most cases.
I'll repspond as best as I can to each. A1c of 8.4% This means your daily glucose [blood sugar] is 194 mg/dl, or close to twice the level above non-diabetics.For t2 diabetics you want your morning fasting levels as close to normal as possible, where normal is <99 mg/dl. After meals levels should be <141 mg/dl, optimum <121 mg/dl. Don't believe the mumble jumbo of drug mfg sponsored web sites - like the ADA - touting after meal levels of 181 mg/dl as being acceptable.
Haven't been able to keep any food down for about 3 days now. The ER ran blood work and all they came up with is low blood sugar (86). My pulse and blood pressure were both also low (54 and 92/45). They ran some other test all which came back negative or normal. They put me on more meds and an all liquid diet for the next 3 days but said they don't know for sure what it is. The one nurse told me I just had the flu!!! Well I guess I'll just have to wait and see if any of these meds help.
Metformin will not be enough to lower a blood sugar of over 300 down to normal levels. See your doctor.
to stablize the blood sugar, I always try to LOWER my carb intake.Period, the other way around, to me, is dead wrong. The other half of my diabetic journey is that I am using a herb that I have discovered and developed so effective enough for me to steadily lower my blood glucose A1C to 5.6% , taken 12.28.11. So effective enough to eliminate my diabetic nerve complications: Leg pains. My "T cell" is dramatically improved.
Have you got your blood pressure and blood sugar checked? Is it in the normal range? It would be best to consult a breast specialist at the earliest and also get a copy of all your reports. Do post us the reports too if possible. Let us know about what your doctor advises and about how you are doing. Regards.
