Common Questions and Answers about Bloating upper right abdomen

gas

I have upper right abdomen pain usually through to my back, and bloating with nausea after I eat as well. I have had the problems for 4 months and they don't know what's wrong. I am a 43 yr. old female, and have been healthy up until this. After an ultrasound, upper GI, Hida scan, blood work, and everything is normal. Taken 3 different kinds of antacids with no relief. Totally frustrated at this point and I have resorted to not wanting to eat because of pain as well.
I been having bloating but in the upper part of my stomach, sometimes it's so bad I cant bend over and it puffs out and makes me look round. I had stomach issues on the past, colonoscopy, two endoscopies and nothing, My stomach stopped working after I have birth 6 years ago and and slow to wake up the end time I gave birth. This is making my crazy... what could it be?
Most of the time I have buring sensation in anus and feels uncomfortable. Feels like some thing there in anus. Gas formation seems to in abdomen. Some times I have bloating in abdomen and it is relieved by passing gas or stool. I have sometimes burning senation in my stomach. This happens only if stomach is empty and it is releived by taking food. Most of the types of food causes this problem. For some types food it will be very high (milk, most of the vegetables).
Even when I went to the doctor and she was checking my upper right abdomen area by the rib cage area and she released I got sharp shooting pain under my right shoulder blade which I was totally not prepared for it actually brought tears to my eyes. that is wht these tests were ordered because she thought it was my gallbladder but now all the test have come back normal including the blood work. I do watch what I eat and am pretty good at staying away from a lot of fatty foods.
So back in July suddenly I noticed my right upper abdomen feels tender and over night I started feeling dizzy and light headedness... The dizziness and light-headedness lasted for about 6 weeks but has luckily subsided. I feel a needle pricking pain on the right side sometimes I have no idea what triggers it off, I spit out blood, my tongue is coated white, I feel nauseous, bloated and belch a lot sometimes I have constipation and other times its diarrhea.
After eating I get SEVERE pressure/pain in the upper right part of my abdomen. I believe this same spot is where my hiatal hernia is located. When I press on it (even lightly) I notice there is a lump there. It is under the skin. It is located about about 4 inches above the naval on the right side of my diaphragm/or below the sternum. Sometimes the pain is so severe I feel I can't breathe and get nauseated. It takes a while for the pressure to let up.
But I still am having a problem with feeling very bloated on upper portion of my abdomen (stomach). Having acid refllux, with sour taste coming up also, which I've never had. I don't know how I should eat more fiber less fiber? I have had 1 catscan and a colonospopy which both confirmed r side mild diverticulitis. Was on antibotics which helped for a while but now back feeling the same way. Dr suggest possibly another cat scan to see if anything else going on.
along with this I have pain right side upper back area.....so painful it hurts to breath.....sit.......
Before having this pain, I had some pain from left to right in the upper abdomen but did not last too long ( maybe 20 hours or so). The doctors did a CT Scan of my Pancreas and it came back normal. At the same time they conducted a liver function test and it indicated that my Alkaline Phosphatase was increase to 161. Two weeks later I received another blood test and it was ALP 182 , ALT 56, and Protein 8.1.
But since I was experiencing severe bloating and abdominal cramping in my upper right abdomen where the liver is located, I requested for more tests to be completed and that is when they found the gallstones via ultrasound. So I think getting a liver panel completed to check your liver enzymes can tell you whether or not the liver is functioning okay. Many times when there is something wrong with the gallbladder, there is stress put on the liver.
I have a "spot" of pain in my upper right abdomen. It is located to the right of my belly button and slightly above my belly button. It feels better when I apply pressure to it. It has been happening for the last few days. However, it's been constant for almost an hour at this point which is the longest it has ever lasted. I also have a burning pain running above the spot to my breast area that comes and goes. I have irritable bowel syndrome primarly with constipation.
Just an update...been having the rib pain in the left upper abdomen again (still taking vicodin after wisdom tooth removal, so I know that wasn't it). I've noticed it becomes worse when I have a very full stomach. It's still a very tolerable pain. Sometimes it even feels like a runners "side stitich" but is way more of a discomfort that an actual "ouch". My burping while eating/after drinking seems to have decreased though. Luckily, still no recurrence of acd reflux.
I have very seldom experienced significant bloating but now the bloating causes my abdomen to expand a good 4 to 5 inches and feels very hard. Does anyone know what this could be? I don't have a lot of confidence in doctors and don't want to have to spend "mega" bucks on tests that come back showing nothing or are inconclusive. PS I'm 60, female and 5lbs overweight according to the last doctor I saw.
On the upper right just beneath your rib cage is your liver, which is connected to your gall bladder and can cause pain if you have gall stones. Have you been eating fatty foods? That tends to be a trigger for pain, and pain can also appear in other locations, such as the shoulder blades. Google "Gall stones" and see if the symptoms match up, but I do agree with the PA. Really bad gas pain can cause pain right up there by your liver area and radiate into your chest and whole body.
For the last few months (about 10) I have had an ache in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen. The symptoms I have are as follows. I get constipated a lot (sometimes it feels like I really have to go and nothing) Stools sometimes have a thin shape and sometimes are normal Mucus in stools and sometimes bright blood (traces) I have a bad cough that seems to come and go but usually occurs if I change position am nervous or just ate (ice cream especially).
I experiencing upper right dull abdomen pain that has been on going for about 4 months. I'm also experiencing dizziness, low grade fever, change in stool (not always light, but it doesn't float), eye problems (floaters and blurriness), excessive mucas in the throat, sneezing and hair loss. I've read that some of these symptoms are related to HCV, but can the be related to another disease as well?
He guys I really hope you all find out exactly what is wrong because I have been having alot of this pain now for 9 Months My pain consist of my upper back right between the two shoulder blades,it is mostly on my right side of the upper part of my shoulder blade. Sometimes I eat something small like soup and i get the worst craps and bloating in my upper stomach region. It never goes higher then my lower espohagus and it lasts for a few hours. 2 weeks ago I had one of these experiences and i touched my lower stomach and i found a spot that was incredibly tender and felt like a sharp pain when i touched it. It's about the size of a quarter and tends to move.
Do you have any shoulder pain between your shoulder blades or at the top of your shoulder? Upper right abdomen pain? Not that all these symptoms have to be present, but they are on the list, as well as, extreme gas from both ends, indigestion, and heartburn, at least in my case. I would get short of breath also just from being so bloated. Mention gallbladder to your doctor and see what he says.
I've had this stinging pain (it almost feels like something tearing) and tenderness in my upper left abdomen area. It's tender to the touch but I feel it inside too so it's not just topical. I feel it more when I'm moving or bending over. I also have some bloating in the whole abdomen area. Anybody have any idea what this could be?
i have excessive gas under upper right quadrant . i feel twitches alwyas in this right quadrant but not sure if it is due to gas or bowel movement. when i expel the gas, it is not a smelling gas in fact. i feel bloating a lot. constipation is also present. what may the reason of such an excessive gas in the right part of abdomen?
I have had an ultrasound on both my gallbladder and right kidney. Nothing wrong but the twist in my small intestine. I do have IBS, found during the endoscopy, hence the Fibercon. Lately, I've been doing detox pads and teas and have read about Digestive Advantage for IBS. That seems to help with the bloating. My guess is since I was on the metoclopramide, my stomach just cannot digest and that is my biggest worry.
Don't get me wrong - I'm glad he has at least found something after having several doctors tell me they didn't know what it was, but felt like I really did have something wrong - but it does get frustrating. Every time I eat my entire right side of my abdomen distends, I have severe pain that follows my rib cage up to the sternum area and I also have severe back pain (between the shoulders and up under the right shoulder blade). I also battle nausea.
I've noticed that the bottom band of my bra (the support part) is now uncomfortable to my upper abdomen. Never had this problem before. I'm getting a bra-extender (cup size hasn't changed) to attach to the fastener of my bra to see if it helps to make it more comfortable to breathe.... The extender is under $5 whereas having to go and try on 12 bras and spend another $30 is not as much fun. My lower abdomen is probably a little more puffy than my upper.
I have had an endoscopy that showed gastritis, and I have had a colonoscopy that diagnosed microscopic colitis. I have swallowing problems, some choking, bloating in my upper abdoman under my breasts. I also have GERD/Reflux, and on-going diarrhea problems, generally curtailed by meta-mucil. I take quite a lot of pepto-bismul as well, plus nexium. I do have a weight problem which I am well aware makes these problems worse.
