Avatar n tn Excerpt from DoubleCheckMD - Latisse (bimatoprost topical ophthalmic)... "Latisse may cause color change in the sclera (tough, outer covering of the eye). Concurrent administration of bimatoprost topical ophthalmic solution (LATISSE) and IOP-lowering prostaglandin analogs in ocular hypertensive patients may decrease the IOP-lowering effect. Patients using these products concomitantly should be closely monitored for changes to their intraocular pressure.
12845664 tn?1427483649 I am using Lumigan (bimatoprost) 0.01% nightly. Cost under my Medicare coverage is pretty high (deductible plus copay). Bimatoprost 0.03% is now available as a generic. What potential problems am I inviting by asking my ophthalmologist to switch prescriptions and start using the 0.03%?
Avatar m tn There is two different brands that say they have the same effect as Latisse but they cost much less than Latisse. They are Lumigan, and Bimatoprost. My question is do they actually have the same effect like Latisse? what is the diffrence??
Avatar n tn i have had alopecia that comes and goes since i was 14 years old,and i now am 20.is there anyway i could have developed it from my mother who has psoriasis?
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if Alopecia can effect testing results?? I forgot to mention to my doctors that years ago I had an episode of stress and was diagnosed with Alopecia. Can that give me a false negative? i've tested at 4 months negative. Am I going to have to go back at 6 months?? Please advise, anyone that has knowledge on the subject. thank you.
Avatar f tn I know that this condition is unpredictable but that certain risk factors are associated with developing severe alopecia and alopecia totalis/universalis. Of these, I do have allergic rhinitis but it is not horrible (unless I am around cats), i do not have other forms of atopy. Now that the condition has spread to another part of my body (nose), I was wondering if I am falling into the category for a poor prognosis. I have had no loss of my scalp hair throughout this ordeal.
1578576 tn?1297133437 Update: Yes, there is a relationship. I now have both vitiligo and alopecia areata. The doctors have confirmed that there is a relationship as well as the alopecia areata registry. In case anyone has the same question...now you know :) Thanks! Avatar m tn speaking for myself i do believe that minoxidil is a total failure and even so this may be controversial for its effect, still regarding the side effects it is not debatable, i ve tried many supplements and herbal lotions before and nothing changed, i lost hope but the PRP recaptured my interest, the effects are somehow deluding, some of the cases i saw improved pretty well (including alopecia areata) while others failed, the percentage of androgenic alopecia improvements is not pretty sufficie
Avatar f tn i jst discovered 2 lil' bald patches and I have PCOS.
Avatar m tn I noticed that there is a small patch on my left chin, where beard is scanty. It is not completely gone but the hair is scanty and the patch is obvious. I went to my dermatologist and he told me it is Alopecia Areata, though it could be in "initial stages" and it is "too hard to say anything". He told me to apply fluticasone cream twice a day, for a month. And if the hair doesn't grow back, he will give me steroid injections. Should I get those injections?
Avatar m tn My dermatologist preformed a scalp biopsy a few weeks ago and she told me that I was diagnosed with early stage female pattern alopecia. However when I read the pathology report it does not seem clear to me. In fact it seems somewhat contradictory. Any help is welcome! Results REPORT Corrected **** THIS IS AN AMENDED REPORT **** CLINICAL DATA: ?
Avatar n tn Has the alopecia simply been reported as persisting or what is the % reported of permanent hair loss?
Avatar n tn Traction alopecia is a form of alopecia, or gradual hair loss, caused primarily by pulling force being applied to the hair. The use of thermal or chemical hair straightening, and hair braiding or weaving are examples of styling techniques that place African American women at high risk for various "traumatic" alopecias. Traction alopecia is reversible if diagnosed early, but may lead to permanent hair loss if it is undetected for a protracted period.
Avatar m tn He just recently (at 21 years old) was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and Alopecia. The steroid shots are not helping the alopecia, and he has been put on Synthroid. I am trying to help him figure things out with the Alopecia. Doctors just keep giving him the steroid injections but after a year NOTHING has gotten better. Any information would be truly appreciated.
Avatar f tn My 11-year old daughter was diagnosed with alopecia a few years ago and with the exception of the initial "outbreak" has not had any trouble with hair loss until about 9 months ago. In that nine months she has lost only a small, dime-sized patch of hair on her head, but cyclically loses and regrows her eyebrows and eyelashes. She has had her thyroid checked and has, in the past, been seen by a dermatologist.
Avatar f tn Nichole_1994 Hello there! I have a friend that has a disorder called alopecia and she developed bald patches on her scalp. Her physician told her it was a nervous condition. Her hair grew back, but occasionally she develops new bald spots. I'm sure there are numerous causes for alopecia, I just thought maybe this information was worth passing on to you. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me the success rate for treating Alopecia with the following meds: Azathioprine CellCept Cyclosporin Humira Remicaide Methotrexate Thanks!
Avatar n tn I went to my dermatologist and he diagnosed the sitiuation as alopecia barbae I have been on treatment for one month I cant recall the medicine name am taking but its kind of liquid gell to be spread on the chin and bold area twice a day it has a powerfull smell. The problem am facing currently is that the spots are increasing heavly for the last month instead of having 5 spots now am having almost 11 and that is very annoying.
Avatar n tn went to an endo who insisted the alopecia could not be from my thyroid or the synthroid. The alopecia started getting better. In August I became pregnant with my second child and the alopecia got worse, 2 more spots and the spots seem to be spreading. My thyroid got better but my tsh is still at 5.0 and I am on 125mcg of synthroid, although I am waiting for my latest blood test. My questions are, could the alopecia be worse because I am pregnant?
676032 tn?1315674063 About 1 year or so ago he started to lose his hair, the docs said it was alopecia and that theres not much they can do. So now hes totally bald.. The whole family was shocked at first but have since got used to it, He has hypothyroidism also.. Im wondering if any1 has advise, could it be the thyroid causing the hair loss or is it actually alopecia (I too have hypothyroidism so know its effects).
Avatar n tn Hi there, There are many types of hair loss like involutional alopecia, androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium etc.A genetic predisposition has been commonly observed as a cause of hair loss.Stress, illness, fungal infections of the scalp, certain medications, autoimmune conditions like alopecia areata all can lead to hair loss. It is best to see a dermatologist and get examined. Early treatment can give good results. Do keep me posted. Take care and best wishes!
Avatar n tn A link has been found between alopecia and Celiac disease, so that's one possibility. Celiac disease causes malabsorption of nutrients, which could be one explanation.
Avatar n tn However, there are many conditions that can result in localized random hair loss in male as well as females, such as alopecia areata, scarring alopecia, infections like ringworm, folliculitis, piedra, seborrheic dermatitis and folliculitis. Alopecia areata is a genetic condition which causes sudden round patches on the scalp along with inflammation of the roots of the hair follicles. However, the hair follicles are not destroyed and hair growth continues after inflammation subsides.
