Avatar f tn I have a cat that is almost 18 years old. He has always been a scar that hides from everyone. He has been hanging out with us and around the dogs and is really stuffy. He has a lot of snot in his nose, it is hard for him to breathe, he gags and coughs and has runny eyes. My husband just thinks he is old with allergies but I'm concerned. I dissolve his food in water and crush it up and he drinks and eats fine. Not sure what to do? Can I give him something for the allergies?
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
168348 tn?1379357075 Any thoughts on whether they really are hypoallergenic for those humans with cat allergies?
1232362 tn?1333135406 I figure if people can build up resistance to antihistamines that it would be reasonable to assume that the same thing can happen to the cat. I generally give her the Zyrtec when the allergies are bothering her the most so that I don't give her too much.
Avatar f tn Works wonders for me, defintely have more symptoms when the cats are due to be washed. Vaccuum a lot and groom the cat regularly outside to help keep the hair down in the house. I would double check first that there is a true allergy involved, no use going through everything if you aren't allergic and it's from something else. Also look at the cat litter you are using, some have strong perfume or a lot of silica dust which is known to affect some people.
Avatar f tn Sniffles, I think you got that name regarding the allergies eh? First off, if your friend don't mind, make sure the cats can be brushed. You might or might not know this, but it's not the hair that we are allergic to, it's the cat's saliva. They clean themselves with the saliva and then it gets on the hair. So it's not just the cat/s, it's anything the cat licks or gets the hair after it cleans itself on. Brushing the cat before and after visits will help.
Avatar f tn Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
7845323 tn?1394873413 Cats won't care as long as you still love them too.
Avatar n tn Many people with pet allergies develop an immunity to the animal they are routinely exposed to, but remain allergic to other animals. You may eventually develop and immunity to your new cat, but no telling how long that would take. The cheapest and most effective thing would be to give the cat away, but that is hard to do. I would recommend Zyrtec as a antihistamine (allergy stop tablet), sinus rinse bottler (available in pharmacies).
53833 tn?1234996629 malnutrition is a real likely culprit. i had an adopted cat who had lost teeth due to mal nutrition as well. it could be an injurynor allergy as well. give kitty a real good brushing and take a close look at the spots where the fur is missing. try getting them cleaned up real well with a damp cloth, infact try a water dampened cloth all over the cat's coat. pull out the ickys. keep going with the food and water the cat should start to look normal soon.
Avatar f tn over the next couple weeks i started getting vertigo whenever it felt like my ear was starting to open it would last 2 hours to 10 hours, not getting any answers from my doctor, i went to the emergency rm.
Avatar n tn I have had cat allergies all my life which is a REAL bummer because I'm an animal lover and love kitties! My main symptoms? Itchy eyes. I get one cat hair near me and my eyes turn red, swell, start watering and then itch horribly. This is a common allergic reaction to cats. If it is a new cough, I'd say it's likely a virus and coughs linger with that. Once the air way is irritated, the cough will stay for a bit. But all allergies I suffer and my son involve itchiness.
Avatar f tn I would say your cat sneezing for 3 days tells me that it's time for a vet visit. I wouldn't assume it's allergies. Allergies usually don't show up out of the blue in a 4 yr old kitty. How high are your vet fees? Mine is around $40. If you're paying much more than that, it's time to find a new vet.
Avatar n tn d go ahead and get another cat.
203342 tn?1328737207 So apparently I am allergic to cats but never had a real bad reaction before. I do get allergies but always assumed it was a high pollen day or something. Interesting enough, some dogs I do ok with but I noticed after petting a friends dogs my arms broke out in a rash. So, I guess I can be more sensitive to certain breeds of dogs but not others too.
Avatar m tn ve had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies. Do you have a dog, cat , bunny or hamster as a pet ? Just wondering. Be well.
2169449 tn?1358489923 I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
Avatar f tn Don't get rid of them! D: I have some good reasons lol 1) Cats don't get spiteful emotions like a sibling might. They might act like attention ****** lol but they won't hurt your baby out of spite. :) 2) It's proven that babies whose mothers were around cats or dogs during pregnancy will have fewer allergies. You can't guarantee your baby won't have animal allergies, but they are less likely to have asthma and seasonal allergies.
Avatar m tn Greetings! My name is Tom and I suffer from severe non- food related allergies. Although they can be controlled, I find that my allergic reaction to dogs is so strong that drugs have little effect. The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.
Avatar m tn Most people who suffer from "allergies" appear to have all the same issues. They stay indoors, take tons of meds, and blame most things on being "allergic" to something or another. Allergies are an autoimmune type of illness aren't they. I may have the wrong work but what I mean is that our bodies are overreacting to something which shouldn't hurt us......is this correct. I think I have an answer to most of the allergies out there.
Avatar n tn Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.
779797 tn?1263618235 My cat actually got to the point where she scratched her ears naked before I had a chance to take her to the vet the first time. The vet took one look at her and simply said: "Allergies." We discussed that it must be food allergies. I was actually relieved that it wasn't something worse. I did have to search high and low for a really good cat food that was grain free. It turned out that that was the problem. She seems to be doing quite well on the Wellness Turkey grain free.
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
