cat allergies real

I have a cat that is almost 18 years old. He has always been a scar that hides from everyone. He has been hanging out with us and around the dogs and is really stuffy. He has a lot of snot in his nose, it is hard for him to breathe, he gags and coughs and has runny eyes. My husband just thinks he is old with allergies but I'm concerned. I dissolve his food in water and crush it up and he drinks and eats fine. Not sure what to do? Can I give him something for the allergies?

My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays,she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.

How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.

Cats won't care as long as you still love them too.

malnutrition is a real likely culprit. i had an adopted cat who had lost teeth due to mal nutrition as well. it could be an injurynor allergy as well. give kitty a real good brushing and take a close look at the spots where the fur is missing. try getting them cleaned up real well with a damp cloth, infact try a water dampened cloth all over the cat's coat. pull out the ickys. keep going with the food and water the cat should start to look normal soon.

over the next couple weeks i started getting vertigo whenever it felt like my ear was starting to open it would last 2 hours to 10 hours, not getting any answers from my doctor, i went to the emergency rm.

I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.

Some allergen exposure control methods are to clean very well daily (vacuum, sweep, dust), keep the cat out of your bedroom, wash your hands after playing with the cat, and shower before bed. If you can train the cat to tolerate a bath that would be beneficial as well. Otherwise you could try wiping its coat with a damp cloth regulary. There are ways to live with pet allergies and keep the pet.

I get one cat hair near me and my eyes turn red, swell, start watering and then itch horribly. This is a common allergic reaction to cats. If it is a new cough, I'd say it's likely a virus and coughs linger with that. Once the air way is irritated, the cough will stay for a bit. But all allergies I suffer and my son involve itchiness.

hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!

So apparently I am allergic to cats but never had a real bad reaction before. I do get allergies but always assumed it was a high pollen day or something. Interesting enough, some dogs I do ok with but I noticed after petting a friends dogs my arms broke out in a rash. So, I guess I can be more sensitive to certain breeds of dogs but not others too.

(like fleas) can cause allergies. Not saying your cat has fleas....just saying you might want to double check :) Good Luck.

is it the dr. Eseys Precious Cat litter? i've heard real good abt that one....thk walmart carries it, however the Cat Attract type is scented and thats not a good idea b/c of possible allergies, best to stay away from scented. haven't read anything abt the Senior type just read the labels....

When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?

Greetings! My name is Tom and I suffer from severe non- food related allergies. Although they can be controlled, I find that my allergic reaction to dogs is so strong that drugs have little effect. The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.

Once in a while one will find its way in the living area and within minutes my cat kills it. A couple months ago my cat started to get bad respirtory problems and died. My doctor told me what happened to my cat and my issues is not caused from the bats. Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.

My cat actually got to the point where she scratched her ears naked before I had a chance to take her to the vet the first time. The vet took one look at her and simply said: "Allergies." We discussed that it must be food allergies. I was actually relieved that it wasn't something worse. I did have to search high and low for a really good cat food that was grain free.
