Symptoms of an allergic reaction to amoxicillin, a member of penicillin, may include anaphylaxis, hives, below-the-skin swelling, or asthma symptoms. Skin testing is the best method for diagnosing a penicillin allergy. If found to be allergic, the main treatment is avoidance of future use of amoxicillin and related antibiotics. Other groups of antibiotics with the same efficacy, may be used to treat the infection.
If you have a strong family history of penicillin allergy, then amoxicillin group also should be avoided. Also please mention this fact to any doctor you or your daughter and other children visit. Still, if I were in your situation, I would insist on the penicillin shots. Or, if I stuck with oral therapy, I would take much higher doses and would continue treatment fo 4 weeks.
Augmentin is a combination drug, amoxicillin plus clavulanic acid. Only the amox is active ageist syphilis. I would take 1 gram amoxicillin 3-4 times a day for 4 weeks. It will cause a lot of diarrhea, which is one reason penicillin shots are preferred.
This sounds like it has 100% to do with the Amoxicillin, and not Mono combined with Amoxicillin and so forth.
Amoxicillin can cause joint pain although this is not a common side effect, but can occur and should NOT be permanent, but temporary.
If this hasn't subsided, this definitely needs to be further investigated by your physician.
Discussion of your concerns with your physician is recommended, including whether or not to continue the antibiotic and whether or not you are having signs of allergy to amoxicillin.

Hi there. Actually no, these are two different kinds of antibiotics. Amoxicillin is a penicillin type of antibiotic and Avelox is a quinilone. Different mechanisms of action but both antiobitics used to treat bacterial infections. Quinilones are used less frequently for sure due to some side effect issues and warnings about the class of drugs. Check with your doctor if you have any concerns but they are definately not the same thing.
Hi! My 11yo has a rash on her bottom that doctors think is a strep infection since august(strep b). We have been on amoxicillin penicillin and azithromyacin with no cure. It doesn't hurt her. She also was complaining of stomach aches since August. She constantly gets canker sores and now has what looks like a cold sore on her lip that isn't healing. Could she be allergic to something? I have an infected tooth which has to be extracted in the next few days but as of now I was prescribed 250 mg of Amoxicillin and have to take it 3 times a day. Since Wednesday I have taken seven doses and for the last few hours I've been experiencing and odd feeling in my mouth/on my tongue. Hi, welcome to the forum, most probable cause can be severe allergic reaction to amoxicillin in the form of angioedema. This may be associated with laryngeal swelling leading to respiratory obstruction. Hence, it is important to rule out this condition.
It usually involves three types of attack like-

A week or so after the crack is swelled up pretty bad. I went to urgent care and the doctor games me 500mg of penicillin 4 times a day. The penicillin knocked out the swelling in a couple days and everything pretty much went back to normal. Last night the area swelled up again and even my law line started swelling. I could feel a large bump in my gum line which I'm guessing was the infection. I was given 875mg of amoxicillin this time when I went to the doctor.
Take it to a pharmacist and have it checked. Amoxicillin is a relative onf penicillin which can have a smell to it. They are both derived from bread mold. If it smells a little like moldy bread then it should be fine.

They are somewhat the same, at least amoxicillin derived from penicillin. Amoxicillin though is more powerful and wider range type of antibiotic.
