I am deathly allergic to yellow food dye. My amoxicillin capsules are made out of yellow food dye. My pharmasit told me that I open the capsule and take just the powder. The problem is the strong taste of the powder makes me gag.what can I do ?

Hi there. Actually no, these are two different kinds of antibiotics. Amoxicillin is a penicillin type of antibiotic and Avelox is a quinilone. Different mechanisms of action but both antiobitics used to treat bacterial infections. Quinilones are used less frequently for sure due to some side effect issues and warnings about the class of drugs. Check with your doctor if you have any concerns but they are definately not the same thing.
An allergic reaction to amoxicillin (and then all penicillin based meds would be included) is sudden and intense and can quickly become life threatening.
Rash is listed as a side effect to this antibiotic. Call the doctor but it is highly unlikely that it is an allergic reaction but a side effect. And it doesn't mean your child will get it every time they take amoxicillin or drugs of the penicillin class. good luck!!
A week or so after the crack is swelled up pretty bad. I went to urgent care and the doctor games me 500mg of penicillin 4 times a day. The penicillin knocked out the swelling in a couple days and everything pretty much went back to normal. Last night the area swelled up again and even my law line started swelling. I could feel a large bump in my gum line which I'm guessing was the infection. I was given 875mg of amoxicillin this time when I went to the doctor.
Take it to a pharmacist and have it checked. Amoxicillin is a relative onf penicillin which can have a smell to it. They are both derived from bread mold. If it smells a little like moldy bread then it should be fine.

Hi Tony, You need anti-viral meds (zovirax, valtrex, etc) to treat herpes. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic in the penicillin group of drugs. It fights bacteria in your body.
If you have a strong family history of penicillin allergy, then amoxicillin group also should be avoided. Also please mention this fact to any doctor you or your daughter and other children visit. An antiallergic like Benadryl should be given and please stop the medicine. Discuss with your doctor as soon as possible.

What I was told was that a certain percentage of people who get Mononucleosis get a rash BUT since I had family members who were allergic to penicillin that I too might just be allergic to penicillin ( as a result I’ve never taken it again) The rash, unfortunately lasted about a month to six weeks, it was awful, I feel for you.
They are somewhat the same, at least amoxicillin derived from penicillin. Amoxicillin though is more powerful and wider range type of antibiotic.
Thanks for responding to my post. It makes sense that ampicillin, amoxicillin, or any others in the penicillin family could treat syphilis (being that penicillin is the recommended treatment). I only asked for the source of the info because I wanted to know if they were somehow less effective treatments than regular old penicillin. Thanks again!
Most likely Amoxycillin,this may last around 3 weeks.Best avoided in the future penicillin group.
but during those years of behavior 7-12 years ago i had 7 day amoxicillin given to me for teeth work, twice over the years. could i have had syohilis from the receptive orall, never had symptoms, given it to my wife, she never had symptoms, and then years later tested negative for syphilis — my concern is that inadvertently cured it from the 7 day course of amox, at some point and thus tested negative years later.

In response to your question nothing was given for the swelling just to apply a ice pack to my face , I was given another antibiotic to take this was to replace the amoxicillin ( allergic to penicillin) this new antibiotic is clindamycin unfortunately could not continue on it due to "BAD,BAD stomach upset, contacted dentist office was told continue with the ice and just stop the medication oh and when can we schedule your next visit to finish the work on the tooth, crown etc.
Amoxicillin in the best sort of penicillin treatment to use during the first tri...bc its not harmful...example: for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy they, treat it in the first tri with amoxicillin if it were found later on like second or third tri theyd prescribe a stronger antibiotic!
Augmentin is a combination drug, amoxicillin plus clavulanic acid. Only the amox is active ageist syphilis. I would take 1 gram amoxicillin 3-4 times a day for 4 weeks. It will cause a lot of diarrhea, which is one reason penicillin shots are preferred.
This sounds like it has 100% to do with the Amoxicillin, and not Mono combined with Amoxicillin and so forth.
Amoxicillin can cause joint pain although this is not a common side effect, but can occur and should NOT be permanent, but temporary.
If this hasn't subsided, this definitely needs to be further investigated by your physician.
