Avatar f tn I went in for a root canal and was given amoxicillin. Afterwards, I blew up with hives and swelling. My hands and feet were so swollen they hurt. My throat closed. I got steroids and the hives got better. Then the joint pain kicked in. My hands and right shoulder were so painful I couldn't use/move them. The symptoms would go away and return (the joint pain not hives). My shoulder hasn't bothered me lately but my hands and fingers still hurt.
Avatar f tn my 9 month daughter had been put on amoxicillin for her sinus infection. when we started giving it to her, she seemed fine up until 2 weeks later then I noticed what looked like tons of mosquito bites on her leg. couple days later, I noticed she had these red & white welts on her arm & was quickly spreading to her chest, back & up to her neck. I was panicing so i rushed her to the er & the doc said she had hives from the amoxicillin.
Avatar f tn my daughter tends to break out at random (she is 2) but the rashes / hives goes away after a couple of hours. We still have no idea what the allergy is. Now she was diagnosed with an ear infection yesterday, she didn't see her normal doctor because her normal doctor was out of town, which is fine, I know the other doctor. the doctor gave her amoxicillin for her ear infection.
Avatar m tn Previously when I dropped from 10-12 per day to 3-4 per day, around a month after I started this I developed hives for the first time in my life. I didn't think much of it at the time as it wasn't too bad. Now however, it's been around 3-4 weeks of dropping from 2x 50mg per day to 1x. I've now errupted in hives all over my body, it's been over a week and there are no signs of it going away. Has anyone else had an experience like this?
Avatar m tn Hi, Symptoms of an allergic reaction to amoxicillin, a member of penicillin, may include anaphylaxis, hives, below-the-skin swelling, or asthma symptoms. Skin testing is the best method for diagnosing a penicillin allergy. If found to be allergic, the main treatment is avoidance of future use of amoxicillin and related antibiotics. Other groups of antibiotics with the same efficacy, may be used to treat the infection.
Avatar m tn ( maybe from anxiety) what worries me is that i have never had hives in my life. and i have also taken amoxicillin before and it did not cause that. i got tested today at my 28 day mark with hiv antibodies test as well as the hiv RNR test. 1. what is the likely hood that i cantracted HIV? 2. in your oppinion do these symptoms sound like ARS? 3. Do you think hives have anything to do with possible HIV infection? 4. Given the time frame is the testing i did considered conclusive?
Avatar f tn My 8 month old was given a 10 days course of amoxicillin for an ear infection. We finished the antibiotic and 2 days later, my son started breaking out in hives. He has been doing this for 36 hours now. They come and go, they will appear in one area, disappear, then appear in another. The on-call nurse (it's the weekend) told us he probably has a virus, treat it with benadryl every 6 hours and the hives should go away in 2-3 days.
Avatar m tn The pain lessened but was still noticeable since beginning the antibiotic (amoxicillin). This morning I woke up with the pain mostly gone from the tooth; however, my jaw is now swollen with what feels like a hard lump and is sensitive to being touched. I am traveling for work and was wondering if I should seek emergency help.
Avatar f tn My Daughter took amoxicillin for 1 week for an ear infection. She woke up the day after her final dose with a Rash over her entire body. By day three they had turned into big swollen welts. It did not seem to itch or bother her but I took her to the doctor and they said it was just a side effect from the medication and should disapear in 4-5 days. Well it has now been a week and the spots are still there.
1442483 tn?1284210716 Last night he had a violent outbreak of hives, 1st time ever. Guessing the Amoxicillin? My question is... where do i go from here with this? Could this be an issue related to a Candida overgrowth(yeast allergy a result of this)? Or a misuse of NSAID's? Something else entirely? I'm trying hard not to connect the pieces of this puzzle to the "Autism related protein intolerance/leaky gut/candida mumbo jumbo, but why shouldn't I? Please help, he's a sweet kid.
Avatar f tn What was the medication , it does sound like hives and may indeed have been a reaction to the meds or you maybe allergic to something else , new underwear , new creams ,if it continues its would be best to have it checked out with the Doctor .
Avatar n tn It is now Saturday, my daughter was diagnosed with strep throat Wednesday night and started amoxicillin in the urgent care, Friday afternoon she broke out in a itchy rash...mostly on her torso but some on her legs, neck, and arms. She has been on amoxicillin several times before from ear infections when she was little. The only difference with that is it is no longer pink (the amoxicillin).
Avatar f tn They put her on amoxicillin for the ear infection. After taking 3 doses of the amoxicillin she broke out in Hives on her hands, legs, and feet. She was taken off the amoxicillin but the rash has now continued for a week now. It will appear and last about 5 minutes and then it is gone. It almost looks like blisters coming up on her feet. I took her to the doctor again today (1 week later) and they told me that she has erytherma multiforme caused from the amoxicillin.
Avatar n tn Hello! For the past 4 months or so I have been getting hives on the sides of my neck. It happens almost every day or every other day. I have not changed shampoo, lotion, deodorant, laundry detergent, or anything else of that nature. I've never had allergies to mold, pollen, or any particular food in the past. It seems to have started a few months after I had some major dental work but I don't know if there's any correlation.
Avatar f tn They didnt do a strep test but diagnosed me with strep and gave me amoxicillin. The next day I started breaking out in hives called the dr. and they said it sounds like i was alergic and to stop taking it.they sent domething else over and they continued getting worse. I went back to the dr and the did a blood test and it came back positive for mono....
Avatar f tn My 12 year old son had a severe allergic reaction which lasted for just over 48 hours, despite 4 hourly doses of Piriton, even throughout the night. He was covered in inflamed, itchy hives, his lips swelled, his face was swollen & he was mildly short of breath. He also had mild diarrhoea, a headache & a sore throat (possible hives in his throat, as he certainly had them inside his mouth.) He was at school when the reaction started & we do not know what caused it.
Avatar n tn The rash appeared not long after I began taking Amoxicillin however I have always taken Amoxicillin with no problems at all (since Nov. I have throat flairups, the doctors are not sure what is causing it. My lymph nodes swell, tonsils are infected, fever, white on my tongue, etc however I always test negative for mono and strep). Just in case, I was taken off the Amoxicillin but the rash keeps increasing. The rash started as small tiny red dots across my abdomen and has spread.
Avatar n tn Dentist prescribed Clindamycin 150 mg for 10 days for infection in my tooth. Got hives, rash, swollen lips and extreme itching and blotches from head to toe. Was on vacation so stopped medication after 3 days of taking it. It is now 5 days taking benadryl and the hives and itching have not stopped. What is in the clindamycin that I may be allergic to?
666921 tn?1254990618 during February I was given Amoxicillin for chest infection -then early march I had -boil/abcess - reading the 'herx' symptom list I noticed - boils/hives/rashes - as part of the 'herx' - I think that the Amoxicillin for chest infection - could be to blame - bearing in mind I haven't had any 'boils/abcess' - for years - I was given more abx. for 'boil' - whilst taking these I had some of the 'best days' I have had in months.
Avatar n tn It could be a reaction. 2 of my kids are allergic to amoxicillin and in both cases symptoms did not show until after taking the meds for over 1 week. They broke out in hives. I would not have your daughter take another dose before speaking to her doctor. It's best to have benadryl on hand as a precaution. Watch for signs of any signs of breathing difficulty, in which case call 911. The rash might be completely unrelated, but better to be prepared in case it is an allergy. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi, the condition strongly suggests urticaria which is due to hypersensitivity reaction (type 1). One thing is certain that alcohol is an allergen to you and subsequent exposure to it can cause complications. Hence, you need to quit the alcohol completely. You need to keep always antihistaminic with you. You also need to rule out other allergens which you are sensitive to.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone. I'm a 42 year old male and I've been relatively healthy, but it seems as soon as I hit 40 things started going downhill. I developed Achilles tendonitis in my left leg, which after all kinds of physio therapy and stretches has still not been resolved 2 years later. I am now developing the same issue in my right leg, and also tennis elbow in my left elbow.
Avatar n tn I am still feeling the symptoms in my sinuses so I went to the Dr last week and was prescribed Amoxicillin. About 20 mins after taking it I had this strange sensation on my lip...like a tingling/itching feeling and became itchy all over. I called the Dr and she prescribed Clarithromycin. I didn't want to take it right away, just in case I had a similar reaction. A few days later I took one pill and noticed that I was itching again...so I stopped taking that as well.
1625195 tn?1332178662 Starting from when I was 18 (soon to be two years ago), I started breaking out in hives all over my body and my face would swell like crazy! And shortly after, my hands and fingers would start to itch and they'd swell too. Sometimes it only happened because I was too cold... other times because I was too hot... and then sometimes because there was a high pollen count, I was near dust... and my stupid (but lovable and adorable) cats would scratch the hell out of me.
Avatar f tn My eight year old is allergic to amoxicillin, zithromax, clindamycin, and cefzil. We have seen an allergist, and he said there are no tests for antibiotics and that "we have a problem." Can someone please guide me in what to do next? My doctor was hoping the allergist would help guide us for future treatments. I am fearful for any infection like strep throat, ear or skin infections, we have run out of options.
Avatar n tn In the past I have had mild allergic reactions to antibiotics....such as amoxicillin and bactrum where I have broken out in hives. Its been almost 24 hours since I started taking the medicine....should I still be worried about an allergic reaction? Would any reaction have occurred already? I have had a headache and slight nausea, is that normal? Any info would be helpful so I can put my mind at ease. Thanks a lot.
