Amlodipine anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Amlodipine anxiety

norvasc

I've been taking amlodipine besylate (norvasc) for about 1 and a half months. For the last couple of weeks I've been experiencing very strong anxieties, panic attacks, and a totally sleepless night. I'd been on testim for years now as well and wonder if either one or a combination can be causing them.
Despite what the doctors told me, I refused to believe them and 'knew' it was something other than anxiety (which of course it was anxiety). In my opinion, we can become so hyper-aware of any symptom that we can relate back to our concern. For example, I felt every little twinge, pain, palpatation, etc. Then I also believe we tend to misinterpret our symptoms as something catastrophically wrong with us when in fact it is normal everyday aches and pains associated with life.
My doctor has me on blood pressure medicine (amlodipine) because my BP was 170/100. He also gave me Zoloft for anxiety, but I'm not fully convinced my problem is anxiety. I can't fall asleep (basically I won't LET myself fall asleep) because I'm scared that my heart will stop beating in the middle of the night. What's wrong with me?!?!?
However, you did say the episode happened after your took the amlodipine besylate for the hypertension and anxit which is supposed to help relieve anxiety. The amlodipine besylate is not a new medication for you, is the anxit? It could be a reaction to the anxit but I doubt it. I still think you should see a neurologist.
Can Blood Pressure Meds Cause Anxiety? Especially Amlodipine?
If I apply pressure to my thumb to stay still, I can see the vein (or whatever you call it) pulsating. Is this just a bad case of anxiety or is something wrong? One of the doctors was worried about my trembling, while another said "anxious people tremble". Tested negative for thyroid disorders, pheochromocytoma. Appreciate your time for reading this far. Thanks, and looking forward to hearing from anyone who would like to give their two cents. Cheerio!
I do not have any pain in chest or heart. This are due to anxiety says one psychatrist but why anxiety happens there is some pneurological problem with brain or heart function. Please reply but keep it confidential and do not display public.
5) and since then using the same tablet till recently My readings were pretty normal and infact my doc was convinced and wanted to reduce my dosage to only olmesartan medoxomil. Of late i have developed severe anxiety disorder and panic attacks, so started using Inderal 20 on the advice of Psychiatrist. I bought a bp monitor and started checking at home regularly and maintain a chart. Almost always my readings are well within the normal range (<130/80).
I was prescrbed metoprolol 50mg and amlodipine 5mg. I have been taking this medine for a year. I have been regularly checking my BP ever since. It comes to 130/75mm/hg within a month. But Still I am taking the same dosage. My worry is : Is metoprolol and amlodipine safe to take?Since I am 38 only what would be its long term effects. That is taking the drug for over 30 years? Finally whether the dosage may be changed? Please help.
After 2 years of angina, I was diagnosed in 6/08 with coronary vasospasms/Prinzmetal's angina (suspected diagnosis, no angio w/ergonovine). Anxiety, GERD, mitrovalve prolapse ruled out. Have had thallium stress test, several stress echoes, exercise treadmill, several EKG's all normal. Holter has shown some PVC's but nothing of note. I was given Amlodipine and gradually increased to 20 mg/day which has decreased my angina attacks to a couple of times a month, a remarkable improvement.

My doc tried a few things--resuming my HCTZ (12.5 mg), which I'd dropped earlier, adding amlodipine, switching to spironolactone--and eventually we got my BP back down to acceptable levels. After I returned to the east, I measured my BP with my (antique) mercury unit, and it was still on the high end of normal. But it came down gradually, to the point where I have gradually been cutting back on the amlodipine, from a high of 10 mg in Utah to currently 2.5 mg.

I was recently diagnosed with gastric artery and kidney artery having bruits, but with normal flow. This set of symptoms and diagnosed bruits appeared at approximately the same time, in April, 2 weeks after returning to San Jose from Boston, gradually worsening as the days went by.
Maybe the headache is due to anxiety. It could also be excitement. Stress from work can cause the tension and the release from ejaculation may be causing the headaches. Could it maybe be subconscious? Maybe he's afraid of getting you pregnant so his mind tells him he has a headache and he needs to pull out before he ejaculates in you. I personally think he should go see a doctor. They can tell him more about what's going on.
I also suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and take medication for that along with amlodipine besylate, 5 mg. anymore than that and my ankles swell up. I also take 12.5 mg atenolol and anymore than that and it causes palpitations. I also take Atacand 16 mg. and Clonidine, 0.1 mg. I don't know why my blood pressure can't be controlled either. It is frustrating to go to the doctor hoping to get some good numbers but I never do. As for your BP being 156/66, that is fantastic!
I was recently put on 25mg of atenolol in the afternoon for BP as well as 5mg of amlodipine, and 20mg benazepril. I also take medication for anxiety. Anyway, my pulse has dropped to 45-50 during the evening hours and sometimes I get dizzy or get palpatations for minutes. Im really worried about having an arrythmia or other cardiac condition and would like advice. Would the previous cardiac testing I have done noticed a cardiac condition such as an arrythmia or bradycardia?
I'm dieting and exercising now - I can tell you that I've been on 5mg now for almost 2 weeks - i have no chest pain - heart palpitations - I can walk, for exercise purposes, without anxiety and high pulse rate. My resting pulse was over 100, now it ranges from around 50-78... and while out exercising it gets to be about 90-100. Only thing -- reason I'm really posting - is that I'm TIRED constantly.
when i was about 17-18 i had high blood pressure and was perscribed amlodipine for it. I stopped taking it cause it made me really tired all the time.. for the past two years now its been completely normal.. Good actually but my pulse rate is always high. Im 19 years old and even when im not active.. my pulse races anywhere from 114-125 the normal is 114. I went yesterday and was going to give blood but my pulse rate was 122, it dropped to 114 about 2 minutes later.

Seems like my body's so stressed and i get anxious easy...and also there's a big jump in Bp after walkin or going from sitting to standing. But if I check it in the morning after I wake its close to normal...any help?
They did ever test on him and everything came back normal, he is currently take Amlodipine twice a day, and his bp runs around 120/75 everyday. So it got me thinking...I have the gene HLA-B27 which can be a sign of Ankylosing Spondylitis and was told that more then likely my son would suffer from this as well. So my question is: Is there a link between Ankylosing Spondylitis and High Blood Pressure? Should I have my son tested for AS?
I am 45 years with good health. My blood pressure is on a higher side 140/90 and is on amlodipine 5 mg for last 7-8 years. The hiccup syndrome started about 6-7 yeas back. It is very annoying and and forces me to take off from office. Can someone suggest the reason for the continous hiccup during cold. I do not get such hiccups on normal days, except when a eat any extreme spicy food.
Weight loss or inability to gain weight is a hyper symptom, as are palpitations. Any other symptoms? Anxiety, insomnia, hand tremors, eye problems, etc? If these tests are repeated, you should ask for FT3 and FT4 instead of TT3 and TT4. The total tests tell the total amount of the hormones in your blood. However, much of that is bound by protein and useless to your cells. The free tests tell what is available. Are you on any other meds or supplements?
He suggested to undergo an angiogram. Then, I checked with another cardiologist and he changed my carvedilol to amlodipine and again the BP was same. Then he changed to a combination of atenolol and amlodipine and my BP is fine. But I still have the uneasiness in the chest when I exert, but my BP is under control other than sometimes it goes to 150/100. My thyroid functions are normal. My diabetes tests are normal. My triglycerides and LDL are still not reduced.
