Avatar f tn Iv been reading and called and asked a pharmacist about amlodipine. And she said she's never seen it used for migriane prevention but that doesn't mean it isn't. It's a calcium channel blocker. I read pplS post about using it and seems promising but still sceptical to the side effects. I also asked the pharmacist if it causes weight gain. She said yes but water weight usually. Nothing like I experienced with propranolol. But the other side effect is a bad long lasting headache...

Avatar f tn Hi Jane68, I am on Amlodipine (generic Norvasc) 20mg/day for Prinzmetal's angina. My feet, ankles and lower calfs often swell, especially after I've been on my feet for any length of time, and I was warned about this by both my cardiologist and the pharmicist. I've gone up a whole shoe size and now have cankles. :) My cardiologist feels that a diuretic won't help (plus I have trouble keeping my potassium level up).
Avatar m tn You did not state your blood pressure, but if it is excessive need to be on what is called an ARB, and I suggest Losartan, which is now out of patent and the most inexpensive. There are many possible reasons for the swelling. A cardiac etiology is possible. Generally one of two kinds of diuretic are prescribed, however 1000 mg a day of crystaline vitamin C will act as a mild diuretic as well.

Aside from headache and dizziness, amlodipine side effects may also include swelling of the lower extremities, flushing, fatigue, nausea, and palpitations. As well as this I have received letter from my Doctor stating that my medication is changing from 40 mg Simvastatin to 10 mg Atorvastatin . .BP and cholesterol is under control. Issues I have in recent years is significant and worsening swelling of ankles and legs , as well as Erectile dysfunction . Is there any better drugs or treatment?

Possible side affects include indigestion as well as numbness and tingling of the extremities (feet and hands). I would call your doctor to describe these side affects so that he/she can assess the severity to determine if the medication needs to be stopped and changed to something else.

Thirteen percent of users experienced swelling. So the doc was right. I got off amlodipine 2 months ago and have not had an episode of swelling since. It may take years for the brown to totally fade.

My doctor said it's usually just the ankles. Anyone with any similar experience? Also, does Norvasc affect your weight? I am having such a hard time losing any weight since I started this drug.

Avatar m tn I was released after 28 days in the hospital for a cardiac cath site infection this was on the 12th of Sep. since my release I have had a rapid pulse between 105 and 125, swelling in my lower legs, and pain both in the calf and front which is aggravated by walking or climbing stairs. Sitting there is no pain at all. What is causing this? I take several BP medicines as well as cholesterol meds. Micardis, plavix, a diuretic amlodipine.
Avatar n tn During Sept of that year I had to be re-admitted as I had a lot of fluid retention (swelling of legs, abdominal area and face). Cardio gave me IV Lasix and after 4 days of treatment I had to take Lasix pil daily. I am now 3 years post-op and I take Lasix when I have fluid retention. I still get fluid retention, but it is now only once a month or so. OHS is a very big operation and it takes your heart and body almost 2 years to get completely over it.
Avatar n tn I mentioned these things to my Dr. and she gave me a stress test and EKG's and everything was normal as I understand it. I do have problems with GERD because I have a hiatal hernia. My heartrate is usually in the 40~50 bpm range, even when I'm moving around some in the office and working (like right now). I often feel much better after I finish a workout.

I am exhausted most of the time, definitely overweight, and seem to be gaining by the day. My doctor doesn't seem to be able to give me a better outcome on what is going on with me. And on top of all that I hurt everywhere, and all over. Sometimes to the point of tears.

Avatar m tn She is asymptomatic and does not have any issues in terms of fatigue, breathlessness, swelling, etc. She has been prescribed 5mg Amlodipine, 5mg Ramipril and 2.5mg Bisprolol. The Cardiologist has told her she will be on medication for longevity and that improving the condition will take a long time. Her blood pressure has already come down to 132/84 which the cardiologist was very pleased with. She will be seeing him again in 8/9 weeks with a follow up echo in 4/5 months.
