amaryl and edema

I have had Type 2 diabetes since October 07. I was put on Amaryl then and now am also on Metformin. I have since gained almost 5-8 pounds. Is this normal? I can't find this listed as a side effect in the drug info. I am about 20 pounds overweight and have been trying to lose that to help with the diabetes. I have a healthy diet and try to exercise as much as I can. I also have Crohn's disease (which may have contributed to the onset of diabetes), so heavy exercise is out for me.

Amaryl and Metformin are about the limit of my expereince. I was on insulin for a while but goal was to get off all meds with behavior changes. As for the weight, I have the opposite problem. My walking burns the weight but my avoidance of a lot of foods keeps me from keeping up. I'm in the low end of BMI and I'm still trying to master the eating side of things which I haven't completely figured out yet.

There are six classifications of oral diabetes medications sold in the USA with several drugs listed under each. Amaryl and Diamicron MR are listed as Sulfonylureas yet appear to affect your grandmother differently. Everybody is different; one drug may cause discomfort in one patient yet it does not in another.

I am maintaining a stage 3 and was on a 3 month regiment of vitamin d and we also eliminated metformin. I take Amaryl now, instead.. My blood glucose was out of control but my PCP put me on Victoza. That seems to be helping with the exception of BS levels being very low in the morning. My PCP has suggested she might take me off the Amaryl and just have me take more insulin along with the Victoza and Januvia. At this point we're experimenting with the meds to see what works better.

We have decrmy Lantus to 10eased units in the even. and 1/2 Amaryl in the a.m. and p.m. I also take Januvia 100mg, and 2000 mg Metformin a day. My A1c has been 6.6 for a few years now, but have moved and have a new Dr. who wanted me to try the Victoza. My BS are running 154 (No lower) to as high as 272. OCCASIONALLY I might have a reading as high as 272 (My B'day celebration had to many sweets) :(. but not this high On a regular basis.

I took metformin for 6 months and it made me sick. My stomach reacted to it and I had pains in my muscles all the time. I am now on amaryl and get no side effects from it. But a lot of people are on metformin. Since it makes your stomach loose, you lose weight from it. And it controls the sugar level. Why don't they list it?

My mother, aged 79 years, a hyperintensive and a diabetic for several years, recently underwent a CABG surgery for a Triple Vessel Disease on July 13, 2010 and was discharged from hospital on July 21, 2010. She is recovering, yet her blood sugar levels continue to be high and is being administered Novomix 30 ( 20 units before before breakfast and 10 units before lunch). Prior to surgery, she was taking Amaryl 1mg tablets once a day.

I am 42 years old Diabetic for 5 years on Metformin 500mg XL and Amaryl 2 mg. My blood sugars are not controlled. Fasting in 140 s and postprandial 300s. I am following diabetic diet and doing regular exercise/ What is the next step I should do. Please advise. My recent A1C is 8.5. Thank you.

For a perspective, pulmonary edema (water in the lungs) and pneumonia are separate issues. Pulmonary edema is usually related to LV dysfunction. It appears the underlying problem is the mitral valve sclerosis (narrowing of opening) and mitral valve regurgitation. I have been controlling my type 2 diabetes with actos, lipitor, lisinopril, amaryl, and metfirman for the last 2 years. Recently, i was laying down and when I got up I felt my neck grinding. A few days later I noticed my tonuge was numb and tingling. then I noticed my right eye and right side of my face and head was numb. I have been having reduced mucle movement on that side. 2) With the edema being bilateral and equal is there any other test recommended at all to figure this out? 3) Presuming this is a valid school of though, do the symptoms directly come from the edema/impared venous return? Or is the edema just co-existing? (ie-- Would diurectics help the palpitations, etc. even if they don't figure out the root problem?) Still a mystery after almost a year...getting worse actually.

I would ad you r doctor about seeing a nutrionist they can take the foods that you7 eat and like and put that in your meal; plan to help you be more consistent in your meals and numbers. We have found that this has also helped our daughter have better control of her blood sugars. You are also probalably still in the honeymoon phase, which means that your body is still producing insulin that would also account for the low. You did not state id you take insulin at lunch.

I have had the edema on and off, and my Endo used to check my ankles when I had an office visit, so with Hashi's it is common, although I have not had shortness of breath.
