Avatar m tn As for your allergic reactions, allergy testing may help confirm this. Consult an allergy specialist. First he may do a blood IgE levels to see if they are raised. Next, he will do skin testing. This test is painless, in which a very small amount of certain allergens are pricked into the surface of your skin. If you have allergies, just a little swelling will occur where the allergen was introduced. Reactions occur within about 15 minutes.
Avatar f tn Of course, a second opinion might be a good idea, especially since your doctor has some thoughts about IgE levels that I have never heard. I have heard of people with much higher IgE levels - even reaching into the 3000 range. Usually they have a lot of eczema problems and other issues. I hope that helps some. You have a hard decision to make.
Avatar n tn As allergic reactions are IgE mediated, blood tests will show increase in these levels secondary to a food allergy. The problem with the food allergy testing is sometimes the amount of food they challenge with may be not sufficient to elicit any allergic reactions. When such food is consumed in large quantities can elicit allergic reaction in the form of hives, redness of skin, itching etc. You need to note down such food also in your diary and avoid the intake in future.

Avatar n tn Any level above 500 is higher and is suggestive of allergy or parasitic infection. You have known to have mild rise in levels. It can be seen in patients with atopic or allergic dermatitis. It is usually seen secondary to exposure to allergen and subsequent reaction is mediated by IgE antibodies. Your body is known to hypersensitive to certain things.
Avatar n tn The best way to treat is to adjust FT3 and FT4 levels so that symptoms are relieved, regardless of the resultant TSH level. Since you've had thyca, your doctor probably wants to keep your TSH levels as low as possible, so I really don't understand why he keeps lowering your meds. In addition to needing an increase in your T4 meds (levothyroxine), it also looks like you are a slow converter. You might want to add a direct source of T3 (Cytomel) to your meds.

Avatar f tn My IgE has been tested and it is very high (more than double the normal range) so allergy was suspected. Nothing seems to trigger the dry mouth, and it has changed from coming on during the day to being there when I wake up and staying for the entire day. I have taken antihistamines for the past five months (Claritin, switched to Zytec) with absolutely no relief. All the antihistamines did was make my dry mouth worse than it already is, so I stopped them about 10 days ago.

Avatar f tn s normal to have severe allergy symptoms (because his immune system is practically reacting to everything) but they will go away as level of IgE drops. High level of IgE can be a result of some sort of infection or parasite also it can be that high because of some allergen that is constantly present in his environment or food (short list of most common allergens http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allergen)... Changing of environment, like going to mountains or to seaside for some time can help.
