Avatar m tn Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
5792451 tn?1390934690 A buccal torus will be on the bone of the mandible (lower jaw bone) but facing towards the cheek/face----- and inside the mouth. Next assignment (grin)----- wash your hands, open your mouth and put a finger inside your mouth and see if you feel that lump on the mandible (lower jaw bone) or within your cheek tissue.
Avatar f tn t let me take things like actonel or that class of drugs as my osteoporosis affected the bones in my jaw and they are afraid to take the chance as with those drugs there is a risk. I was disappointmented about the forteo. I think that drug is more dangerous than its worth personally. Are you still working as an RN? I am not able to work now and I miss it so much. Let me know you turn out regarding the forteo.
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar n tn dental work - there are blackbox warnings about osteonecrosis of the jaw (bone death) The mother of a woman that I worked with took Fosamax for a few months and her teeth began to loosen - an oral surgeon had to pull teeth from a quadrant of her mouth and add some sort of bone replacement. The oral surgeon who did my root canal 2 years ago told me (reluctantly) agreed that the bone drugs are becoming controversial.
Avatar m tn I went for a cleaning appt , when they did x-rays the tooth deteriated in the gumline and bone .An oral surgeon extracted the tooth and did a bone graph due to bone loss. I was never givien antibiotics. After a wk I still had swelling in my face and the site was oozing pus. It was the weekend I had antibiotics of my husbands (enough for 3 days)I was sure this was an infection.I made an appt w/the oral surgeon . My jaw felt dislocated I couldnt chew and could barely open my mouth.
Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. This discussion is related to Atrial Fibulation / Multi-Infarct Dimentia.
Avatar n tn I am constantly waking up all night because I cannot wear my CPAP mask due to these problems. And I can no longer pet my cats which feels like my hands have been in fiberglass. My bones are so sensitive that it hurts to even sit on a soft chair. It has been a terrible experience which I regret.
Avatar n tn m 40 years old and recently found out that I also have osteo penia in one of the vertabrae in my lower back and my doctor wants me to take Actonel...however, those bone density medications can really exacerbate the reflux problems.
Avatar n tn i currnetly am taking actonel for my bones the past 3 years and klonopin i per night and take alot of vitamins such as B compex etc. no alcohol consumption but i do smoke half a pack of cigarettes per day no other medical conditions known 6 months ago all my blood workups were normal . Avatar f tn I have hypothyroidism andI have jaw problems as it is....I can't open my mouth that wide or my jaw will pop on the left side, but usually I don't have too much pain (just stiffness) unless I eat something tough. At the beginning of this week, I woke up with jaw pain, and now, underneath my chin (almost by the pulse point) I have pain. Does anyone know what this could be? I hope I explained my symptoms well enough! Thanks!
Avatar f tn Almost 2 years ago I had my lower left wisdom tooth removed, ever since I have had problems with my jaw. My jaw now pops, clicks, grinds, and makes crunching noises as well as locks. It causes me a lot of pain at times and seems to now be very sensitive to cold weather. I also notice that when opening and closing my mouth it seems like the alignment of my jaw is wrong, the right side appears to pop out when my mouth opens and the left does not.
Avatar m tn Several years ago, started to have sensitivity in 31 and had an x-ray. Dentist said I had some bone loss and put me on prescription flouride toothpaste--pain went away and later x-ray indicated bone built back up . A month ago, I forgot the toothpaste when I went on week vacation and started to have pain. When got home, I started using the toothpaste again but it didn't help and pain got progressively worse.
Avatar f tn food, smelly wind, sore bowels, itchy nd burning bottom. Iv put lots.of weight on and have bone and joint pain 24-7. I feel original symptoms were due to emotional problems and depression not being treated, my doc is not interested in.helping cus of budget cuts, I'm.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and have noticed that recently I have a lot of pain in my teeth and jaw. This has prompted me to wonder if osteoporosis affects the teeth in general as they are inbedded in bone? And how so?
Avatar n tn Hello, I've had 3 of my wisdom teeth removed about 9 weeks ago. The two left teeth where still covered in bone and it was a very painful recovery. Half the root of my lower left wisdom tooth is still in the bone and the left side of my lower lip and chin still haven't regained all sensation (not very nice feeling although you get used to it). Ever since the pain started to wear off (about 6 weeks ago) I've frequently woken up with a dislocated jaw.
190673 tn?1259203266 The pain usually comes from the position of the jaw, and the muscles being in a tight position changing how the jaw and mouth anatomy sits, causing discomfort and occludes blood vessels. Like the song says, the ___ bone is connected to the ____ bone... we're all connected and when one thing is tight, usually the next thing down the line is tight. Go for a massage, it will do you good and take out any upper back/neck/shoulder tention you may have.
Avatar n tn Not sure this is the right category. I didn't see jaw problems forum. I have pain just underneath my jaw bone left side. I thought it was a tooth causing the problem but, it turns out to be underneath the jaw bone. The pain isn't constant but, if i push up there with my index finger it is pretty painful. Is this something to be worried about???
Avatar n tn If you get infection on your tongue side, I am assuming, most probably, the jaw bone was perforated, and the tip of the implant is hanging out of the jaw bone, cannot see it on xray, unless you get a cat scan done. If this happened on the upper, and the tip of implant ended up in sinus, it's generaly ok. On the lower molar area, it's starts out thick and then it narrows down, to a thinner thickness.
1026267 tn?1257591273 I'm glad you've decided to wait. The bisphosphonate drugs (all of them, Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel, etc) have black box warnings required by the FDA. The FDA has also recommended that these drugs be taken 5 years or less. (my OBGYN confirmd) After that, they just make the bone hard & brittle. There is concern about osteonecrosis of the jaw (bone death), esphogal cancer , and more recently reports of increased femur fractures in patients taking it long term.
Avatar n tn I have started mega doses of supplements and calcium and D and excercise and I want someone to tell me that that has worked for them. Most comments I get is to take the drug because it's more effective. I can't believe everyone is taking bisphosphonates or other drugs like that. Please let me hear from you if you see this!,,, Thanks, and hope you are doing well!
Avatar f tn More than 30 years ago, I had a facial injury that caused dislocation of my jaw. My jaw has ached ever since and I have problems opening my mouth. X-rays show that the jaw has "squared-off" an area of my skull, so I guess there is some cartilege missing. I have constant grinding (bone on bone?) and, according to my dentist, my jaw muscles spasm about a dozen times each time I open my mouth.
Avatar n tn Every doctor seems to think it is allergies. I have also recently been to an ear, nose, and throat specialist. Shows chronic sinus problems but no current infection and no need for surgery at the present time. I also do the sinus rinse and have veramyst spray. Ear, nose, and throat specialist said to keep doing what I am doing and contact him in 2 months. I also have GERD and am currently taking Nexium since last May 2007.
Avatar n tn The pain was mainly at the ear, the joining teeth and the back of my head. Then I started having swelling of the lymph node near the jaw with pain/discomfort spreading to the lower part of the neck (the side of the implant) and shoulder bone. After 2 weeks I was given cortisone powder to apply to the implant area three times a day for 3 days.
Avatar n tn SOMETIMES THE PAIN SEEMED MORE LIKE MY JAW BONE, AND TOOTH PAIN. MY DENTIST CHECKED THE BITE, AND TOOK X-RAY. I WENT SEVERAL TIMES, AND HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. I WAS REFERRED TO AN ENDODONTIST WHO BASICALLY DID THE SAME THING. HE SAID THE ROOT CANAL WAS OK (FROM X-RAY) AND IF PAIN CONTINUED, I NEEDED TO HAVE THE TOOTH PULLIED. IN NOVEMBER 2007, MY DENTIST PULLED THE TOOTH. IT WAS VERY LARGE AND BROKE IN SEVERAL PIECES. IT TOOK HIM OVER AN HOUR TO REMOVE THE TOOTH.
