After a week in the hospital, I was sent home with a picc-line in my arm and a drainage tube for the abscess. I have been taking antibiotics vancomycin and Invanz daily through infusion.
I have been home 10 days and the drainage is now cloudy light pink as opposed to the dark pink with clumps while I was in the hospital. I see improvement, but my question that can't seem to be answered is where did the infection and abscess come from?
Because the puss was kind of all over, I was put under anesthesia to have a small surgery incision and drainage. He made an incision on the side/edge of my areola. After it closed up and healed you couldn't see the scar, it totally blended in. Now the mass is back in the area again and this morning some drainage started leaking from that old scar. Hope everything is okay!

As the boil/carbuncle or abscess has not responded to any treatment even oral antibiotics,so incision and drainage from a doctor may be needed.I would suggest that she consults her PCP and gets an incision and drainage done followed by a course of antibiotics.Till the pus is drained out,there will be little relief.

Please help anyone? 7 wks ago i got an abscess incision and drainage(jus next 2 anus) after being admitted to hospital it literally accured over a 3 day period with antibiotics having no effect, the insision was so small it made the packing of cavity the most painfull ordeal i have ever experienced..
After having the abscess drained my left breast is a little more than half the size of my right and still is lumpy and flat on one side. I know I shouldnt be vein but I am only 23 and wonder if this could stay this way forever.

Next I went to a breast surgeon and she performed incision and drainage and another ten days of keflex. The abscess still would not heal so I had surgery a few days ago in which the surgeon removed the abscess and I thnk some of the infected ducts. My question is what is the likely hood that this will reoccur again, and im not sure if she removed all of my ducts or just the ones in the affected area.
Give some over the counter pain reliever and consult a doctor for examination and antibiotics prescription. Incision and drainage may also be required.

But if the infection keeps coming back after incision and drainage, a wide excision of the infected area may help. Has your doctor done that and made a culture of the infecting organism? If not, it should be done so that a proper antibiotic treatment can be focused on the offending organism.
It is also possible that your infection keeps coming back because you have some other illness which could affect your immune system such as diabetes.
If the boil is large enough or is starting to form into an abscess, your doctor will first numb the boil and the surrounding area and then make a small incision to allow the pus to drain.The incision is then usually packed with gauze and an antiseptic to allow further drainage.
In the meantime,till you see your doctor,use warm damp compresses for 20 minutes three to four times a day as it may help draw the boil out.

May want to have a rectal- ultrasound to see where the abscess (fistula) is and find out if the abscess is gone. I'm on Medicaid and they covered the tests and surgeries.
Although sometimes an abscess will open and drain spontaneously, it generally needs to be opened and drained (incision and drainage) by a health care providers.

It can be helpful to have the fluid aspirated by needle, but cutting (incision and drainage) makes things so much worse and the scar will likely continue to open and drain for a LONG time (I speak from experience - mine was cut in May of 2014 and it opens every 3-5 weeks and drains).

3 days later (today) and the incision closed and her cheek is swollen again with drainage from her gum. The vet suggested to place a drainage tube in her cheek for a week and if that doesn't work to remove all of the tissue. I would greatly appreciate any feedback you may have. I hate that my senior is going through this, she is in overall good health and her energy level hasn't been down at all through any of this.
Apart from a course of antibiotics, you may need a needle aspiration or an incision and drainage to drain out the pus and then followed by a course of antibiotics. I suggest you an immediate surgeon’s evaluation.

This persistent abscess that does not get cleared with antibiotics is called Parulis as this elevated nodule is actually an opening of fistulous tract from some chronic abscess either in association with tooth (periapical abscess) or gum abscess or could be sinus in your case.
As I can not do physical exam hence can not say for sure about the origin of the abscess. It needs x-ray and second opinion of a dentist who can examine.
Presently,the various methods used are incision and drainage,excision and healing by secondary intention,excision and primary closure
and excision with reconstructive flap techniques.Pls discuss these options with your doctor.
