abilify

Avatar f tn I just found out a friend has been on the medicine venlafaxine for the highest dosage and his psychiatrist put him on abilify too recently. What does this imply? He has schizophrenia? He's a psycho? Any thought would be appreciated!

774805 tn?1235948571 what is the rang between bipolarism and schizophrenia. Usually bipolarism 15 and schizophrenia is 45mg.
Avatar f tn t much, but my understanding this drug is only officially approved a last-ditch antidepressant for those for whom nothing else worked. I assume there are good reasons for this limited approval. (Keep in mind doctors can use these meds for anything they want once they're approved, but knowing what they're approved for gives some information on what studies showed). As to that particular side effect, any drug that affects the brain can make one sedated or the opposite, overstimulated.
Avatar m tn Abilify is actually an antipsychotic drug that has anti-depressant properties. Usually Abilify is used for schizophrenia, bipolar disorders and as an adjunct therapy (add on therapy) for major depression. The treatment prescribed depends on your psychiatrist’s assessment of your case. However, the dose prescribed is the lowest for the drug. Treatment for depression usually begins with a low dose of SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). Some doctors prescribe benzodiazepines too.
569043 tn?1216845586 Hi, I have been diagnosed with Manic Bipolar Disorder and I am currently taking Abilify. I was simply wondering if this prescription can possibly affect the patterns of a menstrual cycle??
1356915 tn?1277344103 It (Abilify) was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for schizophrenia on November 15, 2002, for acute manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder on October 1, 2004, and as an adjunct for major depressive disorder on November 20, 2007.
585414 tn?1288941302 s response rates to different antipsychotics varies so this would be yet another option if people have not responded to what is available now that you could speak to your psychiatrist about it. It is FDA approved for both schizophrenia and bipolar.

642393 tn?1227032656 I sweated constantly, loss of appetite, and lowered my libido. I just recently saw an ad for Abilify I was curious about that medication. Depending on how chemically imbalanced your body is the Effexor for me worked in a matter of a few days I could tell the differnce. The doctor says it would take up too 3-weeks for me to notice a change, but I was seeing a difference as well as my family in a matter of a few days....Hope this can help.
Avatar f tn Yes, I meant Latuda. She is on 60mg for ODD. She has also been on Abilify. Her main problem has always been her ODD but recently since starting junior high she has had a hard time with her ADHD. She can't focus and organize herself. She doesn't want to do homework because she says she can't concentrate. I just don't think the Latuda is helping much. And I need a recommendation for a good ADHD medicine. What do you recommend for helping with ODD and mood disorders?
1564087 tn?1308947518 I took abilify for a month and it really helped me without any problems! No side effects! I don't know anything about effexor, neither for the mix of both. You should see how you feel with it! I couldn't take lithium 'cause i had tremors and didn't feel well in general with it. I hope for you that it will work just fine! Good luck!
400867 tn?1371753094 s a medication for bipolar disorder or schizophrenia but he seems to think at the low dosage he prescribed (2 mg.) that it will help to "calm my brain down" and my OCD thoughts. The paxil is for my anxiety and I have Klonopin for my "freak out" times which are quite often lately. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has had any experiences, side effects, with Abilify. Thanks!!
407790 tn?1397761026 Usually, medications like Abilify are used as a supplemental medication, in addition to an antidepressant one is already taking. The idea is for the Abilify to help the AD work a little bit better. Are you on an AD now, if so, which one, and what's your dose? If you can share a little bit more about your history, we can advise you a little bit better.
1280947 tn?1278376332 They started me on abilify as a side medication to try to mellow my emotions. I have been to doctors for depression, okay? nothing helps. Just go away and stop questioning them, its not the way they treat it its the treatment itself. Nothing is working. ACCEPT THAT.
675718 tn?1530033033 ten years ago I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia paranoid type at UBH and my doctor Dr. Stowe I was introduced to abilify then Geodon resperdal finally Seroquel I still have this permanent psychosis meaning lifetime of meds commitment I'm on the good things in life I embraced it I'm still living I'm still alive tyvm MEDHELP !!!!
Avatar n tn Actually Ativan is more for anxiety and Abilify is more for depression but it can also help with anxiety. This is common practice, trust in your doctor. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn I'm on 30 mg of Abilify, but I've been on it for almost 3 years. I was scared to drink coffee at first, well when I was first diagnosed with BP anyway, but then I got over being scared and am now back to being a caffeine addict. It doesn't bother me, but my body is used to the meds already. So maybe you should wait till your body is used to the meds before adding caffeine back in.
569026 tn?1216982293 Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.
Avatar f tn The target dose for Abilify varies considerably depending on what is being treated. For bipolar 1 (if you have ever had a manic episode) and schizophrenia it is probably 15 - 25 mg. For bipolar 2 and augmentation of an antidepressant for someone with non-bipolar depression it is probably 2 to 10 mg. Also, how long to wait to see the effect depends on what is being treated, for psychosis or mania I would expect results in no more than a week at any given dose.
Avatar m tn My Dr and I discussed it and he said i may be a good "candidate" for Abilify. Right now im taking 100mgs of zoloft, and .05mgs of lorazepham. Been on those meds for 2 months now and while im not having as much panick attacks, its still there and im having trouble sleeping. Im seeing a threapist tomarrow as my Dr told me to do,cause he wants to get a second opioun on weather i should take abilify or not...Has anyone here taken that medication? What are your thoughts?
Avatar f tn The second doctor actually started a broad spectrum treatment. Mood disorder includes depression, mania, bipolar, and substance abuse. Abilify is indicated for depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and could have worked if you had taken it for some time. Please discuss in detail with each of your doctor. You need to make a change in the treatment because SSRI including celexa are not working. Take care!
Avatar n tn Seroquel has a reputation for having an antidepressant effect. So does Abilify. But Saphris is only approved for mania, not depression. However, it's possible that research will turn up benefits. Looks like you shouldn't mix it with Prozac or Paxil. Saphris had less than 1% risk of high blood sugar in clinical trials, so that should be good news. It tends to lower blood pressure, not raise it. Therefore, be careful when standing up suddenly, etc.
5877513 tn?1375915002 I've found that there are a lot of people on the crazymeds forums with BP II. A great website about BP II and other variants is the psycheducation.org site. It's written by a psychiatrist who has seen a lot of people with different flavors of bipolar and done a lot of research, and he's really good at explaining things.
