I used to 'scratch' (I use that term lightly) 8 years ago & we played the rotate the meds game. What worked for me, may not work for you, or anyone else. The minimum time between ending an SSRI and starting an MAOI is two weeks. I am on Emsam, an MAOI patch, and followed that criteria just as my psychiatrist required. I also had ECT during that time which stabilized me during the two weeks. I have continued with the MAOI and ECT. I follow the diet most of the time, occasionally having a taste of something on the No-No list. I have not had any problems with this.

What you experience may be quite different from what everyone has posted. You might take Abilify and find that you have no side effects and it helps you and you will continue to take it. I have only started the Abilify so far on day 3 … I was supposed to start together but I dropped the pristiq bottle and pills fell on floor now because of contamination ocd I can’t take them and insurance won’t pay for a refill yet so doctor says just take the Abilify for now , I’m noticing it is helping me to change my behavior versus the ssri just kinda helped me manage my existing behaviors but never had courage or motivation to change my behaviors so I’m hoping that’s where Abilify will come

Hello, I took abilify for five years, One thing is that when you take ablilify it is added with another medication usually, and i lost all of my hair while taking it but not because of they abilify, it was from the depicote or what ever-eles i took, but after i got off the depecote, my hair grew back my hair is growing now, but if you havent took it very long you may be having other side effects like the shaking, i will say that dose go away and you get very much better..

It had no side effects and was no bother trying and stopping. I did have to get regular blood tests to check levels, etc.. I have never met anyone who had just depression that it ever helped, but it's great for manic depressives. I haven't heard it being mentioned for this in decades. For me an MAOI (Parnate) was the med that truly made a difference in my condition. It is worth trying lithium first as MAO's have their own issues... good luck!

Took it for about 4 years and it worked wonders during that time for my Severe depression and anxiety. Then it just kind of started fading away and became less and less effective so I had to switch meds. Then I switch to Effexor and got around another 4 years effectivness from it until it also pooped out slowly. I have never heard of hair loss being a side effect of any AD medication. I know for me it never caused any hair loss.

Are you saying you were put on Abilify before you were put on Celexa? Because if you've only been on Celexa a few days, Abilify wouldn't be appropriate. It's only a last resort medication because of its side effect profile and because it isn't known to work by itself, only in combination with another med. If, for example, you have depression, and you're on medication and its helping but not quite enough and you've tried everything else, that's what Abilify is for.

I still was fighting the deep depression and wanted so badly to find that anti-depressant that worked. Me and my doctor talked and he asked me if I would try an MAOI. I said yes...I was desperate.
