Zyrtec and claritin not working

Common Questions and Answers about Zyrtec and claritin not working

Avatar n tn I have been on claritin, clarinex, zyrtec and xyzal. I am continuing with zyrtec now becaue of the cost of xyzal ($200/3mo) due to my healthcare selectively removing antihistamines from the formulary. Xyzal was definitely better for me than any of the others, and I have something more than the standard statement to go with that. Last week I had an allergy test done. RAST/Interdermal type.
Avatar n tn It spread all over my body by the next day and I was really worried because the medicine did not seem to have worked at all. I took Zyrtec again this morning, and it helped a little, but I'm still getting hives. I was wondering if this is just a flare up and will it go away soon if I continue taking the medicine? I'm really worried right now and am in a lot of stress over this.
Avatar n tn The itching came back slowly ( you know, you're not sure if you're just being paranoid ) . I decided to start them back and THAT's when it hit me: my stomach / whole digestive system had felt better than ever when I was taking them and immediately got worse when I stopped . I have been suffering for years with pain, bloating, diarrhea, constipation and tried everything, had tests for everything else , but never thought I had a true allergy.
Avatar f tn Benadryl didnt work on me at all for my hives or sneeziness and what not, I started on Chlor-Trimeton and that worked great but then that stopped working after 10 years and so i switched to Claritin. I'm not sre what i should take now. Help!
784382 tn?1376934640 the ENT seems to thinks it allergies, and i have been started on allergry shots (havent started working yet) i will be getting an MRI to rule out a acoustic neuroma (scary) a benign tumor in the inner or middle ear i believe has anyone ever had any problems with dizziness and allergies?.....
Avatar n tn Both have generic versions available. Benadryl and Claritin are not as strong as Zyrtec and Allegra. 2) Shower before going to bed to remove pollens collected in your hair during the day. 3) Keep doors and windows closed. 4) Sinus rinse - admittedly gros, but they are amazing!! 5) Wash bedding in HOT water weekly. Feel better soon. God bless.
193137 tn?1367883663 I'm not sure why, but I've noticed that it happens with Benadryl and when I used to take Claritin or Claritin-D (can't remember which one I used to take). It doesn't happen with Zyrtec, though. If anyone else feels that way, I'd love to hear your experiences.
Avatar n tn Since then, I have been able to sleep. I do not only thank the doctor and the medicines, I thank God and Jesus. I still have the ringing but either it is not as bad or I am becoming adjusted to it. I continue to pray to the Lord for a complete recovery from the tinnitus. I remember that when I was in the waiting room at Dr. McClelland’s office I talked about my condition to another girl my age and her grandmother.
478342 tn?1241372952 The itching is not fully gone but I force my self to itch by working out and once i heat up and start working out vigourously the itching goes away but i feel real hot and i cant sweat nowhere on my body but my face. i have not sweat since the fall of last year because the hives started again and has not stopped until i just started taking these meds.
1274661 tn?1301871921 Last time I was at the doctor he told me to take claritin-D in the morning and zyrtec at night. I really didn't want to try the claritin-D because it is a decongestant and they make me feel crazy and just seem to drain everything into my chest. Maybe I can ask about taking regular claritin in the morning and zyrtec at night. May I ask what you are and were taking? Did you notice any improvement with this issue after your surgery?
Avatar m tn At this point, it is happening once to twice a month including swollen lips and tounge. I have tried allegra, zyrtec, claritin and benadryl. It is now lasting 2 to 3 days. Does anyone know anything about something like this? My glands are not swollen. Thanks.
Avatar dr m tn It’s important to realize that whatever comes up from your stomach includes not only acid, but also bile, digestive enzymes, and bacteria. Even microscopic amounts will cause irritation to your delicate voice box, giving you a scratchy throat, cough or hoarseness. This is why these symptoms are most obvious when you first wake up in the morning. It’s also been shown that these same stomach juices can then travel down into the lungs or up into the ears of the sinuses.
233772 tn?1297356983 I have been taking Zyrtec-D and at first it seemed that was working but now I am having more stuffiness. I can't breath through my nose. I have tried nasal sprays to no avail. I have tried other over the counter meds such as Claritin and Tylenol Sinus but none work. I go to bed at night and I am fine for a bit but always wake up at about 4am. I am exhausted and am not getting enough sleep. Off and on I have been having a little shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn He can use Benadryl at night as it causes drowsiness and other non sedating antihistaminics like Claritin and Zyrtec . Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods . He may take Vitamin C along with the prescribed treatment. Vitamin C is a general anti-allergy supplement. It helps stabilize mast cells so they are less likely to release histamine. If the symptoms persist, then you can consult an immunologist. He may start with immunosuppressive drugs.
345124 tn?1234486878 I can handle everything except the dizziness/vertigo. As soon as I feel it coming on and my ears feel stuffy I pop a Claritin, some Flonase and ibuprofen if it comes along with sinus press again. So far its working but need to go for allergy shots because these allergies have just progressed over 20+ years from just hay fever to hay fever and allergic rhinitis to hay fever and allergic rhinitis plus now dizziness. This has got to stop!
1460021 tn?1445739558 We can not worry about everything, and for many is why we r in this mess. Get well and get ur sleep....a phenergan at night to help u sleep is not gonna make u a phenergan addict. I would not call it abuse either. We are all different tho, and for some it is best to not even take cold capsules as they abuse everything they touch. Relax and move forward. Get your sleep.
1768199 tn?1323621536 So I'm not crazy? :) At times I feel close to my normal self and at times it's a roller coaster. Focussing at work is especially hard. I work in a lab and have to be exacting in my work or I get erroneous results. Today I couldn't remember what I fed the cell culture I'm growing. I guess it'll either hang in there and live or croak and I'll start it over. Thanks, dixiechicdana.
Avatar f tn The hives started April 14 and have been continuous. I took Benedryl, but it didn't perform very well. I now take Zyrtec and it is making a world of difference. If your medical condition allows, you might want to try Zyrtec. I recently started taking Synthroid, even though I have subclinical disease to see if it would help the hives. Are you taking any synthetic thyroid medication now?
Avatar n tn this morning i woke up with the usual red eye that usually accompanies the horrible swelling of my eye and all I have is the red eye and not the swelling... and granted the red eye is no walk in the park, but at least i can put the refresh liquidgel eye drops - the really thick ones - and that alleviates some of the irritation... And to answer one of the posters above, I do not wear eye make-up... at least we know we aren't alone...
Avatar f tn After Hismanal was removed from the market I tried several over the counter and prescription drugs. For me Benedrayl and Claritin worked slightly but did not help enough. Zyrtec has worked wonders for me and I have now been on it for almost ten years. There have been times I forgot it when it was only prescription form and used Benadryl to take the edge off but it is not as good. However, if I forget nowadays it is sold over the counter at wal-mart, CVS, Walgreens, etc.
Avatar f tn The class of drugs that benadryl is in (1st generation, or "classic," H1 antihistamines) is contraindicated in dysautonomia. This does not mean that ALL dysautonomia patients cannot safely take benadryl (or other drugs in this class such as phenergan/promethazine), but that there is a high rate of adverse and in rare cases even dangerous interactions between drugs in this class and the abnormalities of autonomic dysfunction.
Avatar m tn They took away migraines, dizziness and light sensitivity however the fatigue, weakness and other symptoms worsened...not sure if due to reaction to medication used for injections. My PCP is a DO (doctor of osteopath)....he believes Chiari is the problem from 1st visit and is my big help in getting me into the well known NS. Interestingly enough when I called to make an appt. with the cardiologist and asked to be switched to someone that specializes in POTS....
Avatar n tn They prescribed low dose betta blockers, but I never took them because my events were not very frequent. However, I am 20 weeks pregnant and I had an event during work this week and now I am wondering if I should be cocerened. I was well hydrated and ate something 30 minutes earlier. My first trimester I spent many mornings laying down b/c I was too dizzy to get up and I had trouble getting enough food and fluids due to morning sickness. Any suggestions???
Avatar n tn The rash appears as red, itchy blotches along the hairline, on the neck, chest, and back. (About 17 years ago, I had the same reaction to hot water and sweat and it mysteriously went away over time.
Avatar n tn I'm a natural health specialist / 24-7 researching scientist and I have all the remedies. I'm not a regular on this site and just registered to let you know in case someone wants my help.
Avatar f tn It and juice or lemonade seems to be my only source of drink lately, but I could always stick with just water. Or just up the intake and drink some even when I'm not particularly thirsty. Maybe add a bit of sodium to keep it in?
Avatar n tn I asked my doctor if it could be a virus going around, and he says no. Asprins, allergy meds and antibiotics have not helped. When and if I find something that helps, I will post. Meanwhile, my thoughts are with all of us who have these crazy symptoms with no answers. Hang in there.
Avatar n tn His only answer is that sometimes when people get to their 40's these symptoms start to get worse and he could not guarantee that the surgery would fix the problem. and I am not 40 yet, by the way.. I am just a bit skeptical of this surgery..want to check all other avenues first. sorry so long...
Avatar n tn Just for the past week I've been getting these random flare ups where it feels like I got a mosquito bite...then all of a sudden that "bite" is joined by like 3-10 and they swell up and they itch like crazy. I get them on my back, my lower back, buttocks, and legs. I got one on my face the other day on my chin and it was just a single one. I have not been eating anything new or different, have not used anything new or different that i can think of.
Avatar n tn I was checked by my doctor and prescribed Lotrizone for behind my knees, it did help but has not solved the problem. I did not have lice and he said I did not have scabies either. I sometimes run a hot bath and soak in the tub which helps when Im having trouble sleeping. There is some homeopathic bee-cream moisturizer at Rite-Aid that smells real good and helps somewhat as well I apply after soaking.
