Zyrtec and benadryl taken together

Common Questions and Answers about Zyrtec and benadryl taken together

zyrtec

Avatar n tn When I have an outbreak it'll last for weeks or months and this time it been since Feb (and now we are in May). I've taken Zyrtec for years and it definitely helps with my allergies, but not the hives. A friend of my recommended Xyzal so I talked to my doctor about it. I started taking it two days ago and its, so far, it's working wonders. Today I only have a few, 10 at the most, and usually I'm covered with hives from my shoulders to my knees.
Avatar f tn I suffer from allergies from various foods that are unknown at this time and some cats, not all cats and Ibuprophen (which I will not take even if i am on Benadryl). I worry constantly about anaphylaxis since it happend once due to an allergic reaction from Ibuprophen. My PCP precsribed Zyrtec for me to take daily but it is not for food allergies. Benadryl works great for me and if I only take one 25 mg tablet, I am not too sleepy. Will this be a safe alternative for me??
Avatar n tn You might want to take Zyrtec instead of the benadryl as Zyrtec doesn't cause the drowziness that benadryl does. Other than that, they are safe to take together, but don't drive and limit other activities. Take care.
Avatar n tn I too have gotten the the flu shot. I got it taken 10-8-2015, and 2 days later I started itching all over and the the next thing I know......I had hives! I'm not allergic to eggs or anything else. I know it's from that flu vaccine, I have never had hives and low and behold after this shot that's all I been dealing with. I've taken Benadryl and using aloe Vera lotion mixed with gold bond powder and that kind of soothes my skin. I will not be getting that flu shot ever again....
Avatar f tn These are the big ones that don't itch as much as they hurt. I have taken Benadryl and Prilosec which is a histamine 2 antagonist. I have 10 mg Prednisone tabs with me but the directions are to take 40 mg for angioedema and gradually decrease dosage. I know that if I take this dosage I will be up all night but am really uncertain about how much I should take. Using Aveeno to sooth the welts with minimal effect. I empathize with anyone going through this experience.
Avatar n tn They're not red and they're not clustered together. They're kind of sporatic and they itch constantly. Any ideas on what it might be?
Avatar f tn I saw an allergist a week ago and she put me on allegra in the day time and zyrtec at night, and I'm also on a nose spray called Veramyst. The hives have never gone away completely save for the three days I was on a steroid. Today they are as worse as ever. I just want them to go away forever. And I don't know how to make that happen....
Avatar f tn She wrote me a perscritption for Atatrax to be taken 4 times a day and some cream. Again, I followed up with my doctor. This time I went in sleeveless and looking just like I felt...death warmed over. I could tell he was perplexed himself and maybe had not seen this side effect in person. I told him I wanted to quit the treatment. He told me no to hang in there and perscribed some powder drink called Cholestyramine.
Avatar m tn The itch is so bad and deep it doesn't stop. I did take some children's benadryl yesterday and that kept e itch was during the day. My hands hurt so bad from itchy I wale up on the middle of sleeping to me itchy. I am afraid I will itchy my hands til they bleed at night.
Avatar n tn I spoke with them a few times and they felt that my sinuses needed to be taken care of and the meds for anxiety- well, I quit them and felt a bit better. Then I was off to ENT. My first thought was- what the heck is going on- I have this bad sinus infection , on meds for that for 20 days- it never goes away- was told to take celexa- (which I took at the same time as the anti-biotic)- and then started having attacks, tingling in my fingers and toes, and then I am being sent to a pyschologists?
Avatar n tn I was told I had soft tissue injury and acid reflux which I thought was absolutely a joke! That was by an ENT who had taken a CT scan only on the left side and for that purpose only and although nothing showed that indicated muscle problems but did show a swallen lymphnode it was his opinion that I had acid reflux and suggested I by over the counter acid reflux meds and I would be fine I assured him he would not be seeing me again!!
Avatar n tn I saw the doctor yesterday and after reading the comments here, I do not feel very confident in his treatment. Sudafed and Benadryl. I even made a list of symptoms and incidents and typed them up and gave him. Don't think he paid any attention. The ear is much worse this morning. So are the headaches and that 'walk like a drunk' falling into walls. I'm 65 years old and my husband is making me stay in bed worried I will break a hip or arm.
Avatar n tn I started out with small bumps very similar to mosquito bites on the inside/under arms and a few on my legs. In some areas the bites have "blended" together, now looking more like a flat pinkish area. Should I be concerned? I took over the counter benadry so was hoping this would help.
Avatar n tn They look puffy and feels burning if I scratch them. Once I start scratching, I can't stop and new bumps and patches come up. My family doctor said it is an allergic reaction, but i don't think it's that simple....... is it HIVES??????? !!!! attached pictures!!!! my leg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s106/ykhkz/leg.jpg my arm http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s106/ykhkz/arm.jpg?t=1240870402 It's been 2 weeks since Apr 13th, 2009.........
1166723 tn?1310237084 You can use Benadryl at night as it causes drowsiness and other non sedating antihistaminics like Claritin and Zyrtec . Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms. Application of calamine lotion also helps. You may take Vitamin C along with the prescribed treatment. Vitamin C is a general anti-allergy supplement. It helps stabilize mast cells so they are less likely to release histamine.
Avatar n tn This is the 5th and longest bout (about two weeks long so far) in 3 months. I have tried antibiotics and it comes back. I am on every allergy treatment -- zyrtec, allergy shots, steriod spray and I got a steroid shot when I was at the doc a week ago. Alll of it has helped in the past, but not since March. I did find a few alternatives on the internet I am trying (out of desperation).
Avatar n tn especially in conjunction with regular allergies (eye, dust, pollen) and a breathing condition...I know that they all run together and it is difficult to figure out whether or not it's food or environment...argh...
Avatar n tn Because I have a LOT of allergies I've always assumed that was what it was. I usually feel a little better after I take a benadryl and aspirin. However I would love this problem to stop occuring. I was given a nose spray by the allergist and this seems to help as well but not completly. I would be interested to hear if you had any success with the allergist. I will be starting shots soon and hope that helps. I have never met anyone who has had these type of problems with there allergies.
Avatar m tn Zantac is the only histamine 2 blocker on the market that he knows about, and Zyrtec is a H1 blocker. Taken together they did cure my hives...but when I tried to go off of them, my body went into shock and so much histamine was released that I was a swollen walking hive from head to toe. ouch. but I refused to drug myself that much each day (and it cost $100 a month for me to afford the meds...so, I had to stop).
Avatar n tn I saw an ENT about 3 weeks ago and had a hearing test - everything was good, and all that I got was some song and dance about it being allergies and to take Zyrtec and Rhinocort. So now I'm taking that, but I have also delved into Colostrum as it is supposed to naturally support your immune system. I have also been taking 5-HTP (50mg) for the insomina/anxiety, but don't go overboard with anything because I have read a few studies that it can backfire if you take too much.
Avatar n tn There was nothing I could really do for it other than taking Benadryl and a Cortizone cream and just let it run it's course.
Avatar n tn I had a sister that had allergies really really bad all her life, she died of heart attack, but I worked for her and learned how to live in an allergy free house, sort of. Unfortunately, it's taken my husband 10 years to figure out that this is serious. We live in the country, and there was a huge fire near us 2 years ago and that's when all the vertigo started. I had a horrible sinus infection and lung infection after the fire and it took me 4 months to get better.
Avatar n tn i have an allergy baby that is allergic to EVERYTHING and between that, singulair at night, zyrtec in the morning and the ointment 2x a day AND clorox bath each night with NO soap. plus an eliminative diet from everything that he is allergic to. ALSO, just because it is not listed on the ingredients list, doesn't mean there isn't anything in it. FDA doens't require ingredients that are less than 2% quantitative within the ingredients.
Avatar n tn I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
Avatar f tn It is 4 a.m. and I am desperately trying to figure out why I continue to break out in hives and have joint pain in my elbows, feet, hands and legs. I too started breaking out in hives after taking the antibotic Solodyn for acne. After a trip to the ER, it was assumed that I had an alergic reaction to the medicine. I stopped taking the medicine after only 3 weeks and needless to say, I am still breaking out in hives and have joint pain. I have been tested for allergies and that was negative.
Avatar f tn I was miserable and agitated and just over the top with suffering and fear about stopping the itching and my breathing. I had taken Benadryl that day, and in the waiting room took another 50mg, and told the doctor when she examined me. She gave me further treatment of 50mg of injected Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) and monitored me for a few hours. Symptoms reduced, but by the time I drove home 30 minutes away I was back in the same boat of bad symptoms.
Avatar n tn I have been suffering from it for more than 3 months. Taken antihistamines of sorts. Heard stories of people seeing doctors and specialists and not getting a solution?
Avatar m tn You can also OTC antihistaminics like benadryl or zyrtec for some days and see if they provide relief or not. Some chronic cases may need oral steroids or steroid nasal sprays and antibiotics. These can be taken only after prescription. Hope it helped.
Avatar n tn I went to the several doctors and each one told me to take a Claritin and Zyrtec together every morning and night. When it got real bad that first two weeks, they prescribed me a 7 day supply of prednisone which is a steroid. I don't know what is causing the hives too. It's very frustrating to deal with the hives when I do get them and they pop up out of the blue.
