I'm prescribed Zyprexa in the "Zydis" rapid-dissolve form, 5mg, as needed "for agitation". I'm bi-polar, and sometimes I get worked up to a state that is more frustrated & agitated than it is manic, per se, The Zyprexa works well for this, except for its notorious weight-gain side effects. I just can't handle the weight issues.
The doctor just started my Mom on Zyprexa 5 MG today, she has Alzheimers and is taking Tradazone and Buspirone . An hour after taking the Zyprexa she was confused and thought my nephew was her child.She is 80 and lives alone,My sister her main caregiver lives next door and takes care of her meds and food, We are afraid she will not sleep with this new med.and wander outside.any thoughts from anyone..
All antipsychotics CAN make you gain weight, but some are worse than others. Geodon is supposed to be weight neutral, and Abilify mostly weight neutral (won't make you gain or lose). Saphris has gotten a lot of good reviews in the weight department, and I believe Latuda has as well, but these are both still brand only, which might affect insurance coverage (and will affect cost).
Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure if a med will cause you problems without trying it first.
Surely some of those medications act against each other, some speed him up , some slow him down. I never heard anything like it, I took zyprexa 5 mg at one stage - it completely knocked me out flat and I was psychotic.
It is very strange that he agrees to take all this if he is meant to be so defiant? Is he so stoned that he cant object (if i were him I would spit them down the toilet).
I have been taking Zyprexa 5 mg along with Prozac 60 mg for the past 3 months. I have been on Prozac for the past 12 years. On Zyprexa I began to experience Edema and weight gain, which was not great considering I have battled an eating disorder for the past 18 years. I called my doctor and he told me to just stop taking the zyprexa and the edema would go away. I asked him if I should wean down and he said no that there are no withdrawal symptoms.
It was not getting any better, really it was very severe and I became like a skeleton and very irrational. I changed to a top pshychiatrist she gave me anti psychotic zyprexa 5 mg +anti depressant + wham within 4 days I was completely normal! Now for maintenance (3years down the line) I just take 1.25 mg zyprexa with low dose antidepressant, it keeps me completely stable.
m currently taking 5 mg of Zyprexa for over a year now. It really helped mellow me out as I am bipolar 2. I don't have my highs anymore but was severely depressed from Oct to August, when my depression started lifting. I've gained 45lbs on Zyprexa and I'm thinking about switching to something similar without weight gain being a side effect.
I was given 10 mg Zyprexa by my pdoc for about four months. It stopped working, so he took me off of it. I went from 10mg to 5 mg for a week, then to 2.5mg for a week, then off.
This is the 12th day and I've been experiencing intense withdrawal: An extreme anxiety that I've never before experienced, an indescribable, awful feeling, insomnia/early waking, severe and persistent diarrhea, dry heaves and throwing up, unable to eat, etc.
5 mg,last night i looked into my medicine bag and i was out of zyprexa,i thought that id skip one dose,so i took the rest without zyprexa,i overslept today and didnt feel like going out all day,now when i woke up all the pharmacies are closed so ill have to make do with the remaining medications without zyprexa for one night more,ill wake up at 8 30 and at 9 when the pharmacy opens should i just take zyprexa 5 mg immediately in the morning or wait till night and take it with my remaining medicat
I was put on zyprexa after the Dr. had put me on lorazepam for sleeplessness. Turns out this was highly addictive and I didn't know this. She gave me a 10 day script and when I was done with it I began having one endless panick attack. I became suicidal and my daughter took me to the emergency room about 2 to 3 weeks after finishing those 10 days of lorazepam. They put me on clonazepam and zyprexa.
I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
1 week at 15 mg, then 10 mg, then few days at 7.5 mg, then 1 week at 5 mg, then a few days at 2.5 mg - yes I broke down the pills and sorted them.

of Topramax for to stablize the moods swings and 20 mg of Zydis. But the Topramax I believe is absolutey not a good durg for me. At first it was great because it was the first time in years that I was able to sleep, but the I was having terrible dreams and almost sleep walking and actually falling asleep while sittling on the toilet,, plus the words do not come out of my mouth. They are in my brain, but they get all scrambled on their way out. What is you thought on this med........
His previous psychiatrist who is now 3,600 km away, sent my son off with a referral letter stating that his approach had they continued working together would be to switch from Zyprexa (10 mg. daily) to Zeldox (60 mg) due to a weight gain. He then provided him with Zeldox samples from the drug company but in 80 mg doses. I don't know where the error is. Is there a typo in the referral letter or were those the only samples he had?

My friend is pretty much self-medicating himself using a therapists help for prescriptions, and I'm worried about the interactions/addictiveness.
Just so you know, he's 42 and was diagnosed with schizophrenia 11 years ago; hence, the zyprexa.
I was prescribed 5 mg. Zyprexa for sleep for about a little over a month. My psychiatrist then told me I should get off it so I started tapering off to 2.5 mg for ten days then stop. The first two days after I stopped taking the med. I was o.k. the next few days, I have very bad insomnia and could not fall asleep at all, so I called my psy. . He said cutting it down to half a pill at 1.2 mg. should be sufficient and that I should not have any problem.
hi, im a 23yr old woman who experienced her first episode in october last year, i was at first on 20mg of zyprexa and 1000 mg of epilim when i was in the hospital, and have slowly come down to 1.25 mg of zyprexa and 200mg epilim, been on the 1.25 mg of zyprexa for around a week now and want to reduce further, any advice on how to get down to nothing without going mental! went cold turkey off the meds in nov last year and it didnt go too well.
I was wondering if anyone on this website is taking zyprexa for racing thoughts and irritability. I started taking it in December for these symptoms but I have put on weight taking this drug. I am not sure if it is the drug itself or if my appetite has increased. In anycase, I am really depressed about this and am thinking of switching medications or just getting off the zyprexa itself. I am also taking 20 mg. of lexapro and this has not caused a past weight gain. Please help!
I love Zyprexa! It took a while to adjust to, but it allowed me to go off Lithium which is much more toxic. I've been taking it happily for 4 years. I take 5 mg at night, so I don't need to worry about sleepiness. I didn't have any weight gain either!
Hes putting me on geodon to try and get me off zyprexa and to see if i get better sleep. I am on 30 mg of zyprexa right now and life has been better, cause at one time i was on 40 mg. With all the medications I am on I still don't sleep that well. We both think I'm over medicated. The doctor says that I need to calm down and relax and wait for them to work and then he will start to slowly reduce my amounts and how much medications i am on. the objective right now is to fisrt stablize me.
Hi I would like to know if after three years of taking low doses of sertraline 25 mg and 2.5 mg of Zyprexa the nausea and dizziness I feel can be due to the discontinuation of the meds. I was prescribed due to a depresion an chronic anxiety conduct. I also experience a bbit of tingling in my hands and feet that goes on and off switching around.
I've been dealing with bipolar disorder since 2012 and I've gone through 4 hospitalizations due to the manic/psychotic breaks. I've also suffered a few milder hypomanias during last 6 years but I feel exhausted ALL the time I'm not in a mania. I could sleep for hours and still feel extremely tired. It's gone as far as I am calling sick from time to time because I literally am not capable of getting out of bed.
By this I mean that from 10mg I reduced myself to 10mg every other day for a month then reduced myself to 5 mg everyday for month then to 5 mg every other day formonth then tho 2.5 mg every other day for month and so on. I got a pill cutter to cut my pills down. I asked my doctor to give me a lower dosage without letting her know that I was cutting myself down with the intentin of getting myself of because she said I was supposed to stay on this the rest of my life.
