739988 tn?1386672969 I take ayprexa and I have lost 46 pounds and I am not diabetic I love my zyprexa and I am not going to give it up. I did gain weight at first on it but I have since lost the weight. It is possible to keep the weight off on zyprexa.
559058 tn?1215810834 I have been on zyprexa for 8 years now and I love it. I am never going to stop taking it. I did gain weight at first but I have since taken off the weight. and I am continuing to loose. through exercise diet and helathy hapbits. You can loose weight on zyprexa/ We just have to work a little harder at it. Depakote made feel like a zombie. I hated it. I am soooo stable and normal with the zyprexa. I dont have any bad side effects and even my sex life is great.
Avatar n tn i took zyprexa it helped but it made me gain weight does the weight come off after you stop taking the med
3136619 tn?1345387321 I taken Zyprexa and Zydis, have to say didn't notice much difference, though my doctor said that Zydis has less side effects such as weight gain.
Avatar f tn I have been to see pdoc today after having a bit of a wobble following 2 months off medication (did not go cold turkey, did it over 3 months). She has prescribed me Zyprexa but I am really scared about taking it, I really don't want to gain weight - I am still trying to lose the weight I gained on Depakote.
Avatar m tn I have been on Prozac for the past 12 years. On Zyprexa I began to experience Edema and weight gain, which was not great considering I have battled an eating disorder for the past 18 years. I called my doctor and he told me to just stop taking the zyprexa and the edema would go away. I asked him if I should wean down and he said no that there are no withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
589824 tn?1238796813 Now with that being said there are meds that make things taste better ,feel better etc I am on zyprexa and celexa.I did gain weight initially on this combobut I have since lost that weight and I am continuing to loose more. My advice is to eat healthy 6small meals a day .NO caffiene or sugar as these both aggravate bi polar.Regular rest pattern.Meds and therapy. exercise at least 30 mins a day even if its just a brisk walk.
Avatar n tn The main risk for all antipsychotics long term is tardive dyskinesia but that is worth the risk/benefit analysis. The one side effect of concern that differs from one antipsychotic to another is that of weight gain and the potential of diabetes and with that one Zyprexa has the most risk out of all of them. I when I was on Zyprexa gained 35 pounds. However, that starts with weight gain and if that doesn't happen in him it should not be a problem.
698408 tn?1256958348 Both medications carry a risk of weight gain but if you know this in advance you can take steps to reduce this. The weight tends to be "water weight", so drinking plenty can help along with the normal steps of regular exercise and watching your diet.
628714 tn?1268238196 The most commonly reported side effects are sleepiness or excessive sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth and weight gain. Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors. The yawning you experience is also a rare side effect reported with Zyprexa. (Ref: http://bipolar.about.com/cs/zyprexa/a/meds_zyprexa.
Avatar f tn I waz on and i had a reaction to it its got an ingredient in it and caused me to lactate not bein pregnant and zyprexa i gained alot of weight like 20lb in a month
202665 tn?1248806733 Hi, BeeKeeper. First off, I would be curious as to why your doctor feels that you need to be on not one, but two anti-psychotics (Geodon and Seroquel). They are pretty powerful and in my experience, when a person starts a new one, they are taken off the other. But not knowing your current symptoms, I cannot say. I was on Geodon as a mood stabilizer for 2 1/2 years. For a long time, I was very satisfied with it.
497950 tn?1255863927 I am bipolar I with mixed episodes. (Also with rapid cycling :) fun stuff...) Has anyone tried any medicines that didn't cause weight gain and didn't cost a fortune. I am on Abilify right now but I am very quickly going to have to change because my insurance isn't that great and it cost me $100. I am on Neurontin and Celexa right now which is great but I can still feel myself going up and down all the time.
Avatar f tn i thought everything was alright until i started to gain weight i was 115 before i started then i raised up 149 pounds then i notice i was waking up at 3:30 and 4:30 am thats when i said i had enough i stop the zypreza lost the weight real fast and was not sleeping i mean , no sleep. i don't feel the sleepy feeling anymore i feel like i been up forever and ever.
1655289 tn?1326042889 Thank you for posting your expierence on Topamaz. I will talk to my doctor about Risperdol or Geodone. All I know is I want to get off the Zyprexa because of my weight gain. I'm 5' 2" at 190 lbs way to much weight for my height. I feel terrible and embarassed about my weight I don't want to do anything or let people see me this fat. You are lucky, I would love to be too skinny than fat like me.
1257808 tn?1322762215 Zyprexa is known for causing significant weight gain. Many meds make us really hungry all of the time. If your concerned about weight it is really important for you to look up the side effects of a med before you choose to take it or not. There are meds that are weight neutral. It's a shame so many dr's don't take that into consideration when prescribing these drugs. They don't have to carry the weight, we do! I will not take a drug that is weight gaining no matter what.
Avatar m tn A psychiatrist would have to designate a specific titration schedule for the Zyprexa and also would know what is the lowest therapeutic dose as well. Zyprexa is the antipsychotic with the greatest potential of weight gain. There are other choices. This could be discussed with the psychiatrist.
Avatar m tn Would not know exact specifics but the potential of weight gain will always be there with the current generation of antipsychotics. I do know however that when I was on Zyprexa (which has the strongest potential of weight gain) I gained 35 pounds and that when I requested to be changed to another antipsychotic I was able to lose the weight but I had to make dietary changes. Abilify (along with Saphris and Fanapt) has the least likelihood of this potential but its still there.
Avatar m tn agitated than it is manic, per se, The Zyprexa works well for this, except for its notorious weight-gain side effects. I just can't handle the weight issues. Does anyone know of a another drug, that perhaps comes in a rapid-release form, that would make sense as a replacement for the Zyprexa? I'd prefer to take something that can be used on the as needed basis. I will ask my doctor, of course, but wanted to see about other people's experiences. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Thank you.
Avatar n tn Weight gain is a common side effect with both Zyprexa and Depakote. There are other medications to treat bipolar disorder that do not have weight gain as a side effect. Perhaps you could discuss this with your prescribing doctor. Google "bipolar + phelps" for an educational website that has a section on weight gain with bipolar meds.
