I have been seeing a regular neurologist to see if she can treat my migraines and am currently on 150 mg. of Zonisamide every night to try to help that, but I am also working with Dr. Gardner at UPMC, who is a Chiari specialist. He believes it is best to eliminate all other possibilities before actually resorting to surgery to treat the Chiari, which I respect. I go back for a 6 month follow-up MRI and consult with Dr. Gardner next week.
she does ok with a very, very low dose but the seizures come back in 2-3 wks. Right now she is taking 1/2 tab in a.m., 1/2 tab in p.m and every other evening she takes 1 full tab (this is 16.2 mg). My vet just yesterday put her on Zonisamide 100mg twice a day. He's hoping she does well on this & can eventually take her off the PB. It will take a few days for the PB to get out of your dogs system so hopefully you will see improvement in her soon. Has your vet put her on Prednisone?
I have a 1 year 4 month old German Shepherd named Melo who's been having seizures since he was 1. I just wanted to share my experience because I know its comforting to hear stories of other people that are going through what you're going through, makes you feel less hopeless. Melo had 4 seizures in the span of 2 hours, he's taking 300mg of Zonisamide every 12 hours but before take refill arrived he had ran out and that's when the seizures happened.
So the vet added phenobarbital 1g twice daily in addition to her zonisamide 200mg twice daily. My question is about the side effects. It has been a week since the pheno was added and she is still very clumsy and can't even walk up stairs. She is eating more than usual and sleeping constantly. Is this normal after a week?
t find a workable dosage of phenobartibal, you might want to ask your vet about either Dilantin, Valium, potassium bromide, felbamate, or a different type of anti-seizure medicine that can be used in conjunction with potassium bromide and/or phenobarbital together called Zonisamide. Zonisamide is totally unrelated to any of the other anticonvulsants, but, like Keppra, the full extent of its side effects is not yet known so to some vets, it is somewhat controversial to prescribe it.
I started having a constant aura without headache during pregnancy it was mostly floaters and a black line that flaoted in my vision at all times. It was annoying but did not infere with my life and I thought it would go away shortly after pregnancy. I am 5 months post birth and my auras have taken a turn for the worst in last five weeks. I see all sorts of visual disturbances and they never go away.
of effexor and i couldnt sleep at nite so my doctor started me on 25 mg. of zonisamide and took me off effexor.I am having horrible side effects but dont know which med. is causing it.I have been crying in the mornings,having a constant stomach ache and my head feels very confused almost to the point of disillusion. Which med. is causing this?Should my doctor have me on antiseisure meds for depression?
I also have Asthma and Epilepsy to which I take Lamictal, Zonisamide, Albuterol(when needed-which is quite rare), Claritan, and Singular. Now on another site I spotted an area that stated certain OTC meds can cause problems with Gerd. My question is I also Take Vitam that of Multi Vitamins, Omega 3-6-9, B-12, Deodorized Garlic, Ginger(which isn't too often though I did purchase a bottle to begin in the near future on a daily basis), and Ginseng.
3X DAY, 13) VIMPAT 100MG. 2X DAY, 14) ZONISAMIDE 100MG. 3BEDTIME, 15) LANSOPRAZOLE 30MG. 2X DAY, 16) SUCRALFATE 1GM. 3X DAY, 17) COLESTIPOL 1GM. 3X DAY. I'VE TRIED VIAGRA BEFORE WITH NO RESULTS. I WAS ON WELLBUTRIN BEFORE ZIPRASIDONE. AT THAT TIME WHEN I HAD AN ORGASM I DIDN'T EJACTULATE ALTHOUGH NOW WHEN I AM ABLE TO ACHIEVE ORGASM I'VE GOT LITTLE EJACTULATION AT TIMES. I'VE GOT AN APPOINTMENT ON 4/30/14 WITH MY UROLOGIST AND I PLAN TO DISCUSS THIS WITH HIM THEN.
OVER THE PAST YEAR I HAVE HAD 4 OR 5 OCCASSIONS OF BLOODY BOWEL MOVEMENTS JUST ONCE IN AWHILE. NOW OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS I HAVE HAD PAIN IN MY LOWER RIGHT SIDE OF THE STOMACH. MY GASTROLOGIST SEEMS TO THINK THE PAIN IS GAS AND THE BLOOD IS ALSO RELATED TO MY GASTRITIS AND DIVITICULITIS. I AM A LITTLE MORE CONCERNED HOWEVER. SHOULD I SEEK A SECOND OPINION OR DISCUSS THESE CONCERNES WITH MY PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR? I FEEL THE PAIN MORE WHEN I EAT.
I haven't slept thru the night in at lest 6 months. Before That, I go thru the same boughts.
I awake around 3:00 every morning, wide awake. Go to bed about 11:00, sometimes earlier. No naps when I'm not really depressed in a bad way. I have tried Trazadone, Ambien and Lunesta in the past years. They all keep me awake and once I finally sleep I'm up in the middle of the night wide awake. Any suggestions on a pill to keep me asleep that I can ask my pdoc to try.
s been on 1 1/2 grain on Pheno in the AM and PM but he continues to have cluster seizures once a month. His latest blood test was 26 for pheno. We increased his pheno to the current does previously stated about 1 month ago.
Over the weekend, he had cluster seizures. We didn't take him to the vet immediately since the other times, we've given him 1 gr of pheno after and within a day, he gets better. This time his seizures were at night at least 3-4 times.
I HAVE BEEN BACK IN TOUCH WITH HER REGULAR VET WHO SENT US TO UT AND SHE WANTS TO GET IN TOUCH WITH UT WITH SOME QUESTIONS. I'M WONDERING AND I SHOULD HAVE AND WILL ASK WHY NONE OF THE VETS XRAYED HER NECK TO SEE IF THERE IS SOME KIND OF INJURY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON ABOUT 3 MONTHS. FIRST TIME I NOTICED IS I WAS APPLYING ADVANTAGE 11 AND WAS HOLDING HER BY THE COLLAR. SHE JUMPED AND TURNED A FLIP WHILE I WAS STILL HOLDING HER COLLAR.
My doctor has now taken me off the Avanza at night and prescribed 15mg Reductil to take with the Effexor in an effort to perk me up a bit and help with the weight.
My own research, the pharmacists concerns etc are making me think that this combination would not be advisable.
As my sugar is also starting to be a problem, I did suggest to my doctor that perhaps metaformin would be a better aid to assist with the weight issue.
