553947 tn?1215306493 Hi, Trichotillomania is a type of psychological condition that involves strong urges to pull hair. It affects more girls than guys. Most people who have it develop it during adolescence. People with trichotillomania pull hair out at the root from places like the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, or pubic area. Some people pull large handfuls of hair, which can leave bald patches on the scalp or eyebrows. Trichotillomania is a type of compulsive behavior.
Avatar f tn s hair is called Trichotillomania. It is an anxiety disorder. I might suggest you google this phrase to learn more about this issue - "children and trichotillomania". You should be able to find lots of information on the internet. It might be wise to mention this to your daughter's pediatrician on your next visit. I hope this helps ...
Avatar n tn Hello, I very much need an answer because my doctor will not give me a straight answer. I'm currently on Lamictal (800mg a day) and Zonegran (200mg a day) and I'm a college student so I tend to drink. I've never had a seizure while consuming alcohol but I'm terrified when doing so. So heres my question... When I drink (beer) with my meds, will it bring on a seizure? or just enhance the side effects? Please I very much need to know asap! Maybe even stories would helpl too.
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
Avatar n tn Hi Cindy, Many individuals diagnosed with Autism (and other developmental disorders) engage in problematic and self-injurious behavior, including hair-pulling (trichotillomania). But trichotillomania isn’t restricted to individuals with developmental delays – many typically-developing people also pull their own hair. So I’d be cautious about looking at the behavior as a feature of her Autism.
1190847 tn?1287363025 yeah it is called Trichotillomania. I have been pulling my hair out since 12 and never stopped. I find it a very hard habit to break. I think the sensation of it feels good, so how does one stop? I don't think its physically harmful unless you swallow the hair.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Has anyone with Chiari had success with Diamox? I'm currently on Zonegran for L-temperal lobe seizures, but the constant pressure and full feeling in my ears and mouth is driving me crazy. Told possible Meniers by ENT, but my Neuro thinks it's the Chiari. She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).
Avatar f tn I have and it is still unclear...She is up for another doctor vistit tomorrow... The first one has no idea.. He feels like it maybe a form of OCD....I am still lost on the issue..
Avatar n tn You have trichotillomania. You should see an Eye MD and a psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn Hi, My daughter was just daignosed with Trichotillomania. I have been devastated by this and am trying to wrap my brain around it. She is 10 years old and has been pulling her hair out of her head. She starts therapy next week and her pediatrician wants to put her on Zoloft. After doing much research I realize how hard this is for all of those who suffer from it, and my heart breaks for anyone who has this disorder.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Does anyone know of any medication for complex seizures (L-temporal lobe) that won't make you feel like a zombie? I take Zonegran 200mg and I have absolutely no energy. I'm typically very active and moving all the time. I don't even have the energy to grocery shop or cook anymore. This is ridiculous! I also take Diamox, not sure if this has any affect on my energy level. Recently had a CBC done, and it came back normal. I just started these meds 4 months ago.
Avatar n tn I think you should visit a dr and tell him/her about your compulsive eyelash pulling. I used to do the same thing. I pulled eyelashes, eyebrows and hair. It was when I was a pre-teen and all through my 20's. I sometimes still pull my eyelashes but not too often so I know when I'm under stress when I do it. I believe it is an OCD called trichotillomania. I never got "help" for it because it basically went away on its own.
Avatar f tn It's called Trichotillomania. I do it on occasion just like my mother does. I don't have scars from it, but did have too shave the areas i was consantly picking at. OCD medication works for this.
Avatar f tn I have really bad Trichotillomania. I do it whether I'm bored or under stress. I am taing 200 mg zoloft and klonopan. I feel good except I pull my hair out. It feels good but looks awful. Any ideas on how I can stop? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Actually its called trichotillomania. Its a condition that's a form of obsessive compulsive disorder and treated with medication for that. Look up the term and explain it to your psychiatrist. That is readily treatable.
3058848 tn?1340508794 Hello Apoza, I don't have any children but I do know about this disorder so I figured I would post a comment. It's called Trichotillomania. www.Webmd.com defines it as a hair-pulling disorder, is a mental disorder that involves an irresistible urge to pull out hair. This behavior occurs to the point of noticeable hair loss. The most common areas for hair pulling are the scalp, eyelashes, and eyebrows but may involve hair anywhere on the body.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I went off the Zonegran because my hair was falling out and my tachycardia spells stopped. At least I hope so. I also think my meds were causing a lot of my anxiety. I don't have this anxiety attacks since stopping seizure medication. I take butterbur for my headaches and this is suppose to increase the oxygenated blood to the brain. I feel so much better these days.
Avatar n tn The differential diagnosis includes all early lymphocytic alopecia including Lichen Planopilaris, and less likely Follicular Degeneration Syndrome, also chronic traction alopecia, chemical abuse or trichotillomania leading to scarring.
Avatar f tn //www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/trichotillomania/symptoms-causes/syc-20355188 Are you sure this is not due to a medication or situation that is causing the itch? I high light my hair and found a new place used color that aggravated my scalp. The itch! Went on for weeks after the hair appointment for three separate times before we changed the brand of color. I know that scratching the scalp can damage the hair follicle and cause you not to grow hair well. Not okay with me.
Avatar n tn Hi, Eyelashes take about seven to eight weeks to grow back if pulled out. Trichotillomania is a disorder that urges the sufferer to pull out scalp hair, eyelashes, etc. Trichotillomania (TTM) is characterized by chronic, repetitive pulling of bodily hair. The sites of hair pulling include the scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, axillary, body, and pubic area.
20050727 tn?1489133390 I already know that I have anxiety OCD and (more-likely than not), trichotillomania. I'm just not sure as to what step I should take next. I'm pretty sure that you're supposed to go to a psychiatrist for this sort of thing, but how does that even work? Can somebody that's either been through this process or is at least well informed on it pleeeaaase tell me what I should do?
Avatar f tn While this MAY be pica, I don't think so.... It sound more like Trichotillomania . I am going to share a link with you. My niece had this and gave herself bald spots eventually. It is a form of obsessive compulsive disorder and you should get treatment for her. Good luck and I hope she overcomes it. http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_mind/mental_health/trichotillomania.
