Common Questions and Answers about Zonegran and trichotillomania

zonegran

Avatar n tn Hello, I very much need an answer because my doctor will not give me a straight answer. I'm currently on Lamictal (800mg a day) and Zonegran (200mg a day) and I'm a college student so I tend to drink. I've never had a seizure while consuming alcohol but I'm terrified when doing so. So heres my question... When I drink (beer) with my meds, will it bring on a seizure? or just enhance the side effects? Please I very much need to know asap! Maybe even stories would helpl too.
Avatar f tn I had to get to the point where even if I wanted to pull there was no way for me to pull because I had my head covered up. I have stopped now and my hair has grown tremendously with no bald spots. Everynow and then I get the urge to pull but its ALOT less than before. You can seek help but personally I think that its a self disipline thing. I was tired of doing that too myself and tired of having low self esteem behind it. You can do it but it will take hard work and discipline.
Avatar f tn Hello!!! I was wondering what anyones experience was on Zonegran. I have tried Topamax previously but couldn't withstand anything over 1/4 of a 25 mg pill....thats right 6.25. Went to new NL and he rx Zonegran @ 25mg. I feel like a walking Zombie and have had a worsening (didn't know that was possible) migraine for the last 3 days which is how long I have been on this medication.
Avatar f tn Since October I have tried Lortab (3 strengths), gabapentin, Lyrica, Ultram, Relafen, Zonegran, and Trileptal. I am also on Cymbalta and Ambien. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.
553947 tn?1215306493 It takes alot of mental effort and self awareness to stop doing it. At least now trichotillomania is a recognized condition and anti anxiety meds can help, there was no help for me when I started doing it. The best thing you could do would be to confront it, talk to your parents and a doctor. Most importantly, if someone makes fun of you, blow it off, they don't know what's going on with you.
Avatar f tn I gained about twenty pounds on Trileptal, (a very similar drug), in just a month, and now I am also switching to Zonegran. I'm still in the process of raising my dose, but thrilled that it's working well for your daughter!
Avatar f tn Pullling out one's hair is called Trichotillomania. It is an anxiety disorder. I might suggest you google this phrase to learn more about this issue - "children and trichotillomania". You should be able to find lots of information on the internet. It might be wise to mention this to your daughter's pediatrician on your next visit. I hope this helps ...
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
Avatar n tn Hi Cindy, Many individuals diagnosed with Autism (and other developmental disorders) engage in problematic and self-injurious behavior, including hair-pulling (trichotillomania). But trichotillomania isn’t restricted to individuals with developmental delays – many typically-developing people also pull their own hair. So I’d be cautious about looking at the behavior as a feature of her Autism.
3058848 tn?1340508794 In children, trichotillomania occurs equally in males and females. In adults, it is more common in women than in men. I would recommend www.webmd.com or http://www.****.com/children I hope this helps.
1190847 tn?1287363025 yeah it is called Trichotillomania. I have been pulling my hair out since 12 and never stopped. I find it a very hard habit to break. I think the sensation of it feels good, so how does one stop? I don't think its physically harmful unless you swallow the hair.
1303966 tn?1296740010 She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).
Avatar n tn Affected areas of hair loss often appear on the left side of right-handed children and on the right side of left-handed youngsters. Most cases of Trichotillomania resolve spontaneously. You should closely evaluate your child to see if he has this habit. The cause of this type of condition many times is related to stress, or other possible psychological or emotional deficiencies the child. Tinea Capitis is a disease caused by fungal infection of the skin of the scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes.
Avatar f tn I have and it is still unclear...She is up for another doctor vistit tomorrow... The first one has no idea.. He feels like it maybe a form of OCD....I am still lost on the issue..
Avatar n tn I have Trichotillomania as well, and I've noticed that it happens when I'm either stressed or bored. However, over the course of my life, my eyelashes have always grown back the way they were before. They grow in at an average thickness. However, one sice is curled more than the other. I believe thiis is just due to genetics, perhaps, thin eyelashes are genetic as well... and one side being longer than the other could be considered normal.
802234 tn?1237830136 ) My doc and I have to get Zonegran out of my regimen (cognitive confusion, dangerously and abnormally thin) any thoughts on the puffiness?
Avatar n tn Hi, My daughter was just daignosed with Trichotillomania. I have been devastated by this and am trying to wrap my brain around it. She is 10 years old and has been pulling her hair out of her head. She starts therapy next week and her pediatrician wants to put her on Zoloft. After doing much research I realize how hard this is for all of those who suffer from it, and my heart breaks for anyone who has this disorder.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Does anyone know of any medication for complex seizures (L-temporal lobe) that won't make you feel like a zombie? I take Zonegran 200mg and I have absolutely no energy. I'm typically very active and moving all the time. I don't even have the energy to grocery shop or cook anymore. This is ridiculous! I also take Diamox, not sure if this has any affect on my energy level. Recently had a CBC done, and it came back normal. I just started these meds 4 months ago.
Avatar f tn It is a form of obsessive compulsive disorder and you should get treatment for her. Good luck and I hope she overcomes it. http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_mind/mental_health/trichotillomania.
Avatar n tn I pick at my skin constantly, pull out my eyelashes, and pull out my eyebrows, would these be considered symptoms of Trichotillomania? I also have be diagnosed and been treated with OCD.
Avatar f tn It also teaches you to learn what emotions and triggers are involved in hair pulling and how to substitute other behaviors instead. I hope this helps. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Also search "trichotillomania support." There seem to be a lot of young women sharing and helping each other on the internet with this problem.
Avatar f tn Try to find another dr. Trichotillomania is a real disease and part of being OCD. I notice I don't do it around other people. Just when I'm alone. I feel for the hairs that have weird textures and pull them out. Sometimes I save them to feel later. I do have bald spots. My dr. has me on Zoloft - 200 mg - but it;s not helping. I'm going to keep searching until I find a cure. I hope you keep searching too. You're not crazy.
Avatar n tn I do not know who to go see about the aura, I had my eyes checked when the doctors were thought I had MS and I have 20-20 vision and no floaters. I presently see a neurologist who has me on zonegran 2oo mg and flexoril 3 times a day and Diflucan as needed and Maxalt. When the headaches get out of control she puts me on prednisone. I also see a physical therapist at her office weekly for the headaches. I have had trigger point injections ( did not help).
Avatar m tn In highschool I became anorexic, that is when my mom got worried and took me to a psychologist. I learned about the condition Trichotillomania and how it can lead to Anorexia. She told me that if I had gone to a doctor sooner and told them of my hairpulling, the Anorexia would have possibly been prevented. I am cured now, weigh 132 and I feel sexy and beautiful.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I went off the Zonegran because my hair was falling out and my tachycardia spells stopped. At least I hope so. I also think my meds were causing a lot of my anxiety. I don't have this anxiety attacks since stopping seizure medication. I take butterbur for my headaches and this is suppose to increase the oxygenated blood to the brain. I feel so much better these days.
